Thank you lmao. Squally's post is straight up making things that never happened. I've NEVER once showed Squally any of my maps, or even been in a forge lobby with him, or "where you told me that you were focusing more on aesthetics." Those words have never left my mouth ahahaha. This is really sad on his part. In fact, the first time I ever talked to him I was in a party with Dark Prince, he took lead and walked me around his maps for half an hour, and then left.
Yeah, I feel some of my points and opinions need to put out there and discussed but I also feel everyone should be able to do whatever the hell they want unless it's from a professional stand point. I do my fair share of things other forgers do not agree with. I even do a lot of things that game design points out that I shouldn't do. In the end players are almost always enjoying it regardless of how other would have designed it differently, so that is a win win to me. Actually with dispute, I went against my own preferences and rebuilt it how every other designer suggested and some forgers still had issues with it. I enjoyed playing on it, custom kids and the pros/'sweaty kids' that have relayed feedback back to me didn't have any issues. In both version of it. My point being, even if everyone arguing your point is right, it doesn't make you wrong. Some people are going to appreciate it for what it is, some people will like your way of doing it better and some people are going to despise its differences. It being more or less a hobby or art form for us, we just have to enjoy doing it and hope others enjoy playing on them. I'm ranting a lot but think of it this way. With forge, we are so limited compared to dev maps. And dev maps are created by an entire team looking over the project with huge amounts of tools at the disposal, way more feedback than we could ever get and school experience teaching them the right level of contrast, visibility, etc the list can go on. Yet they still screw up in a lot of our eyes. This whole thing is almost unarguable in general, let along with the tools we have access too. You won't be satisfied with just concrete, They won't be satisfied with the more limited designs. You still make fun maps, there may be issues but they are still fun, whatever. End of argument. Do I win?
Oh! I see an AznFTW name drop! Hate to break it to you guys, but everyone knows AznFTW... Except he goes by another name now; Godly Perfection. And no, he does not make good maps... This hit the nail right on the head. Anyhow, heading out of country for the week. Won't be around to continue this debate, but you guys should really chill with it. Especially with the "I forged back in the H3 days" stuff.
Looked down upon by who (other than Squally, though I didn't read his post)? The majority of comments in your threads have been pretty positive. I didn't know how to react to the perfect rating from multilockon though lol Is it worse than this, or did you guys spark this entire debate because of the random spat in the shoutbox? To me, it's as if you think the entire community is out to get you and your pure-metal maps. I didn't mention "accepting your limits" as a bad thing. If anything, it's admirable because I believe catering to your own desires is better than catering to someone else's for the sake of attention. I don't know what else to say. You guys overreact like anyone else does.
We've heard plenty of criticism from plenty of people here, the shoutbox just happened to push us over. And yeah lol given puts a lot of effort into his maps and I don't always feel like he gets the recognition he deserves. So yeah I leave a nice review on his map, obviously it's coming from his friend and you don't have to take it too seriously. It's just my way of supporting him I know he changed his name but he went rogue after that and I know that plenty of people do not know him. And his maps were honestly pretty unique. I don't know where you and swually gets this Halo 3 forger ego from us. For the millionth time, we don't even bring that up, nor is it relevant. Where you headed btw?
The "H3 Ego" thing has been a long standing problem here, where while you may not be doing it, a good plenty of forgers are sensitive to the subject. Too many forgers over the years have used the title of "H3 Forger" as something to hold over those of us that came later and act like they're better. Again, its probably not the case with you guys, but even mentioning the H3 forge days brings people to expect something similar to what we've seen before. Heading to Poland. Good grief this thread is hard to catch up on! Lol. I'll drop my opinion here since I feel I have something to do with this. I was in the shoutbox debate & may have even started it. Not intentional. I don't get the H3 thing, I haven't seen multi or given lay that out here yet. Even so, why does it matter? Me, blaze, multi, given & a few others have been here since then & I don't see how that makes us any better nor have I seen either of us boast about it. I like the title but it's purely because it's cool to have seen forge evolve over the years in every form but that clearly has no merit in making me better than anyone. I will say that gives us more experience but not more skill. As to the metal maps, how is this a heated debate? Lol. I told you this would be the religious debate all over again. Who really cares? Or actually who has a valid reason to hate & bash a metal map? I am not a huge fan & in my opinion it looks better if it isn't solid metal. I do like contrast & I think stone with metal accents looks better. What's awesome about that is the fact that it's my opinion! I have no right to tell someone not to build a metal or stone or mixed map. So yeah, imo they don't look as good & the contrast between metal pieces isn't drastic enough for my taste but idc if you like it more than me. I'm not a map racist, please understand that all of my comments about metal maps prior to this are just jokes to poke fun. Never would I try to talk down on you guys for it. Even if I played the H3 card I couldn't back it up & say I'm one of the top forgers so please don't take those comments personal. To me if you want metal maps than forge your little hearts out on some metal \m/ Though to one point you made I feel is wrong, you say any block/stone map can be replicated in metal. That's incorrect. Don't take that as an insult or attack but you can't do something as simple as a bridge 4 units wide that curves up & then down like a hill (like 2x4s or something). That's what we mean by its limiting. There's just certain shapes that aren't possible in metal form. I get your point of requiring more skill & creativity to build a map in all metal because of the restraints & piece usage but that almost comes off as the H3 dropping schnitz & squally are talking about. Geo merging & such back then was hella hard & it took many moons longer to build a great map in those days but that doesn't make us more creative or skilled than the new kids starting in Reach thru MCC. So that's almost the same thing. In conclusion, do you & I'll do me. Let's make some good maps regardless of our personal preferences ay? I also want to say I get offended when you guys drag "halo 3 forgers" through the dirt. What's the big deal? If it wasn't for halo 3 there wouldn't be a FH community. Blaze is a map making beast throughout every forge game & I tried to be consistent as well, we don't hate on you guys so what's with all the salt in your game?
Yeah it definitely has been brought up by a few people, skwelly was prob the least civil about it though. Especially how contradicting, hipocritical, and hard headed he is, but that's besides the point. lol It just seems as though some of the more well known people on FH have brought up player orientation problems, which whether it is just personal problems for them or not, spreads negative feedback throughout the community, and people believe what they hear. Therefore, predetermining metal maps cannot be up to par with primarily concrete maps. Sorry if I came off snarky before, Korlash. I really took it as an offensive statement. I'm not sure we're overreacting though, it's kind of like when someone asks why you're mad when you aren't. which makes you progressivly more angry. People saying metal is bad for gameplay. (in a nutshell) I'm sorry if any of you take us forging back in the day as any sign that we're superior. We know we aren't, and never claimed to be.
