When the average forger is either a kid or bottom dweller living in their mom's basement, and that far too many of which also have pipe dreams of making it big in the game industry, I'd say a $5 per hour pay for a 5-hour task is a great price. Anything less would be a hard sell, and anything more is placing too much value behind forging.... Of course, I'd ask for somewhere in the ballpark of $200, but that's for the opportunity cost of alternative investments of my time (not to mention the annoyance of fiddling with annoying blocks).
Yeah, to me it would be a time based pay. Depending on which side you see it from, I wouldn't pay $20 for someone to build my map but I wouldn't want to build one for that either. I'd want far more to compensate for my time but to pay money for a forge would be crazy to me, lol. Before I got put on salary 2 years ago I was making $22 an hour, to make a good solid map would take a few hours even if it's sketched out & planned already. I would need to at least make the equivalent per hour.
So it's not bad of me to ask for something in return? I'm usually one to make a map in about 3+ hours, usually longer if I get stuck. Is it too much to ask for $5 for a map to be made specifically FOR someone? I could be working well over 4 hours or to the next day.
No, its fine for you to want to be paid for it, just imo I wouldn't want to pay anything for that. I wouldn't forge someone elses map for free though unless it was a coforge or something.
Basically what it boils down to is this... On the one hand, if you look at forging as a job, it would required a decent amount of money to make it worth your while (probably at the high end of the range you listed in the poll). On the other hand, most people that are interesting in designing a map for Halo are probably not willing to pay what you'd like to receive. If those two don't align, you're not going to get much business. It's not a knock on you or what you're trying to do, it's just common sense.

The reason for the $5 increase from Halo MCC to Halo 5 Guardians is because there will most likely be more customization and more reason to make new maps in the new upcoming game. I'd like to get these maps people want, but can't make because of the MCC limits, made in Halo 5 Guardians. Thinking of Halo MCC as a sketching pad... Anyone who pays the $5 to have me make their map in Halo MCC will also get put on a list to have that map made BETTER on Halo 5 Guardians for free.
Actually, I'm kind of curious. I've always wanted to do a 4v4/5v5 vertically inverse pseudosymmetrical interior one-flag map with massive height variation (That will also support slayer) but everytime I even start thinking about it, I get overwhelmed. The major problem that I have is that it always turns into a design I fear will rely too heavily on choke points and the gameplay will be treated basically as a roombased map that when you hit the intersection going upward, you just die repeatedly. Do you think you could pull it off? I have $5 Microsoft currency from my bing rewards, if you can pull it off functionally with decently clean aesthetics, I could give you the code.
Hm.. sounds tricky.. About how many floors would the map have to be to be vertical enough? Use 1 2x2 block as a single floor And pseudosymmetrical as in... like the map Guardian? It was fair whichever side you were on or more like.. snowbound, each side has slight variations? I may actually spend my day working on this.. I like a good challenge dude ^_^
As many floors as need be. Damnation as a reference of height scale and orbital as a reference for what vertically inverse pseudosymerty is in a way.
Honestly? Nobody will pay you for a forge map because whatever you build in forge, can be made by ANYBODY else. Making a quality map takes a lot of time. Charging $5 is like forging for 10 cents an hour. What gives you the reputation to sell maps? If anyone wanted to buy maps, for some reason, why you? You're willing to forge a map for $5, but $1 is unacceptable? You'd be lucky to get a shiney quarter. Is it even technically legal? People could tell you to make something, and just not pay you. Nobody will pay for a map before its made. The fact that your poll starts at $10 pisses me off. Charging for a single forge map that will be ugly, when people don't like paying $15 for 3 dev maps..? Was this an April fools day post? You must work for trying to charge people for something that will be terrible. Do yourself a favor, get off Forgehub, and go to Fiverr. Maybe someone is desperate enough there.

Given is honestly the most laid back, down to earth, soft spoken person I've ever talked to on Xbox Live. You probably interpret his comment's voice differently than me because of how I know him, but honestly the whole premise of this thread is ridiculous. Given brings up valid points that we were all thinking. And maybe he could've been nicer about it, but OP is borderline insulting. I don't blame him for reacting the way he did. If you don't understand or like Given's mindset, that's fine. I totally understand, but I definitely see where he's coming from. This thread should just be locked. There's no surplus of new threads being formed so this is likely to sit at the top for some time otherwise.
Already 80% done with a map someone asked for in this thread, so not EVERYONE thinks badly of this idea. All I have to say is I GET how a majority of you all think, so please keep anymore negative comments out of here? It's a thread asking if anyone wants to comission me, not a thread asking if it's right or worth it. If I wanna spend my free time making a map for someone for $5 I'll have fun doing it. It's not all about making bank or breaking in the Benjamins. Also, there will be a new thread open once Halo 5 comes out with different pricing, which will be based on how many people comission me, the survey and opinions of people who didn't ruin this thread.
The major issue is he is beating a dead horse. People have already brought up their concerns with this idea. Who cares if GTF is all of what you say. What he said was unnecessary and rude because it was already brought to the attention of the creator of thread who doesn't care. If someone wants to try to make money forging let them try. If it works it works if it doesn't it doesn't. Why would we lock this thread just because the concept of something is ridiculous. If anything you both should be ban for coming into a thread and just bashing it and then having the nerve to say the thread should be locked. If you don't like a thread don't post in it. No one will be banned. I just think what he said was completely unnecessary. Because as I stated above; a dead horse is a dead horse.
