Hello Hubbers and welcome to 2015, a year that is shaping up to be big for Halo. Forgehub is breaking radio silence to announce our upcoming contest aimed at you, our faithful community! We have been busy, working behind the scenes to give you a chance to compete for the coveted title of Top Forger.

    Going Loud

We are putting out bounties on the best 1v1 maps created in Halo 2 Anniversary. In order to be eligible, maps must be forged on one of the blank canvasses such as Awash, Skyward, or Nebula. In the spirit of community collaboration, co-forging with a buddy is allowed but every map must have a primary author, 18 years of age or older, who will be the recipient of any potential contest winnings. Maps must be original designs and works of your own making, plagiarism will be automatically omitted from winning.

    Coming in Hot

Nothing heats up these cold winter days like the burning desire to take home some of these fantastic prizes!

    1st Place - $500

2nd Place - Astro A50 Wireless Headset (Halo Edition)

3rd Place - Gunnar Glasses ($100 Gift Card)

    4th Place - our appreciation

    Rally Point Alpha

Entries must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM on March 5th, 2015 so that we have a chance to thoroughly review and test each map. All submissions should be tailored to 1v1 gameplay, both in size and in power weapon placement (generally speaking, smaller maps do not need as many power weapons as larger maps). Judging will commence after the submission deadline and winners will be announced on March 15th at 1pm.

Maps should be designed around these settings:

-Slayer gametype only (maps do not need to support objective gametypes)
    -Battle Rifle primary weapon
    -no secondary weapon
-2 Frag grenades given upon spawning
    -110% player movement speed
    -radar disabled

    Judgement Day

Eligible map submissions will be judged based on:

    Game-type Support
    • Does the map function for the game-type(s) as necessary? Are all required objects and systems in place to successfully play a game?
    Fun-Factor
    • Is the map fun to play on? Is the spaces fun to navigate through? Do the weapons, spawn and layout promote a positive game experience? Is the map balanced and fair for the given game-type?
    Performance
    • Does the map suffer from any negative visual or performance issues?
    Originality / Creativity

    Rally Point Bravo

The goal of this contest is two-fold. First, we want to find great maps...then we want to play on great maps! Yes, you heard right. The winning maps chosen from this contest will be played on during an upcoming tournament (so don't tell anyone about the hidden Rocket Launcher that only you know about).

There you have it folks. If you didn't have a reason to forge before, you sure do now. Get out there and make us proud Hubbers. To arrange community test sessions, or to find someone to critique your map, please see this thread (thread link).

    The Smackdown

To submit your map, simply create an account at www.ForgeHub.com, visit the "Maps" page and click on the "Submit Your Map" icon. Eligible submissions must contain at least 7 images per map. Youtube video gameplay or walkthroughs are heavily encouraged as well. For our convenience, please label "smackdown" in the 'search tag' section (this is not to be placed in the title of your map). This way we can find all of the contest entrants with one click of a button.

    End Transmission...

Cool, thanks for the info War. And no, I'm not considering remaking Carbon. I couldn't submit something that wasn't my design to begin with.

I'm so ready for this. I've been lacking in 1v1 designs lately and I think this is the push I need to get started. Just like the Dust Up ;)

2 Frag grenades off spawn what does that mean? 2 frag genade at the spawn or far from the spawn?

When you respawn, the gametype will start you with two frag grenades.

      Also is it a team Slayer 1v1 or a free-for-all 1v1

I'll just drop this here for ya:

Maybe it helps some people. Combining this with the FH 1v1 gametype requirements and weapon timers could definitely be worth it. ;) Cheers.

So i tend to forge maps fairly fast and have completed mine already. i think that it is fun and looks beautiful! the only problem is there is a slight frame rate lag dude to all the detail i put into the map :/ do you guys have any suggestions on what blocks i can use in place of others and what not. cuz besides the frame rate drop, i probably would have submitted my map already! lol

I've noticed lights especially cause a ton of visual lag, its usually better to just color the individual objects and skip placing lights down. I've also noticed the regular large trees can cause frame rate drops moreso than the medium and smaller trees. Objects that consist of high polygons (more detailed/3d objects) tend to cause more problems as well, but it seems minimal (at least from my testing). The number of forge pieces visible at any given time on screen will cause frame rate to drop too, so try and limit the amount of open areas and sight lines if the map uses alot of detail.

You just need to play around with the objects and see. There is a topic here http://www.forgehub.com/threads/frame-rate-a-short-guide-for-h2a.148013/ that goes into some detail on what causes visual lag, but alot of it is still mostly unknown for h2a forge.

How does this relate to unconventional methods of spawning? For example a sniper rifle that only spawns once a player activates a switch.

quick question...i know its a 1v1 but do we ENABLE TEAMS? or do we leave the ffa component to the "Smackdown" game type. I'm concerned about equal spawns in the ffa setting. With teams enabled the INITIAL spawns are much easier to control a fair start of the match.

Yes, enable teams. It's a Team Slayer gametype, not an FFA gametype.

The last 2 maps at this link are from an older 'Smackdown' contest, but otherwise all of the maps that have been officially submitted to the contest should show up here: http://www.forgehub.com/smackdown/maps

So we are allowed to place BRs and Frags on the map right? any weapons we want as long as they are smart. Im under the impression for some reason we couldnt place them even though the original post doesn't mention any restrictions.

There was originally a section in the announcement post that mentioned 'suggested' weapons & timers. That was moved to its own thread for discussion. There are no 'restrictions' per se on which weapons can be placed on a map. Do what you think works best for your map.
