People do not understand what a theory is.

A theory, is and always will be, an observation that is able to be repeated and or observed through scientific process. It is basically a fact until proven wrong, which is the point of calling it a theory. One of the most common scientific observations in physics is gravity correct? Well gravity is technically a theory.

Evolution is taught in every single public school system in the U.S (i don't really know how education works outside of the U.S) and it is a theory.

Hypothesizes are educated guesses. Theories are not, and to be dubbed a theory by the scientific community means there is reasonable and observable evidence.

I hope I don't get flamed for the evolution comment, since it is for some reason still a topic of debate, but yea, a theory is not some made up mumbo jumbo.

My theory is that your definition of the word theory is not completely accurate since it refers to only one possible definition, while there are other possible definitions that make the use of the word theory used by others equally valid, and therefore your frustration is misplaced. :p

I am frustrated that there is a stock image of my mom, sister and dad on Getty Images except for it isn't my mom despite what Getty says.

*People do not understand what a scientific theory is

In the matter of talking about the big bang theory, theory of relativity, Newtons three laws of motion, theory of evolution, etc, it only concerns scientific theory.

But I do agree with there being multiple definitions in difference circumstances, however, if I'm getting scrutinized for believing a scientific theory, I will only consider the scientific meaning of the word.

The frustration came up when I was in an argument with a friend because he didn't believe that protons were not just sub-atomic particles, and that they are made up of quarks, and he didn't believe the size of the star VY Canis Majoris when I showed him a scaled picture of it to our sun. After failing to explain quarks, I moved on to the big bang, and he wouldn't accept a scientific theory to be pretty much fact.

"Believing" a theory is irrelevant. Science (and math) are just used as an abstraction to understand things at a fundamental level (to the point which we cannot really perceive the idea of) and for application. It doesn't matter if you "believe" in a theory, but rather what conclusions can be made from it and it's derived applicable uses. It can be intriguing on the macro-scale but if there is no innovation happening on a micro-scale, then it's not worth it. People who don't bother putting the effort into the tedious work that goes deeper than "theory" typically won't believe it anyways.

TL;DR: It don't matter really. Our current understanding of things does not mean it's the best way of expressing it, so "theory" is quite accurate for a lot of things, just like the difference between your various proofs, postulates and theorems that you're supposed to learn early on in your geometry class.

    1) School internet sucks 50% of time
    2) Just found out youtube auto quality changes quality mid-stream, which I'm pretty sure restarts the loading bar. That's a lot of wasted buffering time.
    3) This one girl I thought liked me has shown mixed signals. Probably just me being coy or something.
    4) Missing GTA5 online. Damnn

    @ER1C0,

    1) Agreed, the exception is Primary schools.
    2) I haven't suffered that, but if then that's the case then yeah, that sucks.
    3) Don't look at me! Well, you never know....
    4) Why is GTA5 so popular?! One it's not my thing and two, people have been attacked and stabbed for A GAME.

    Myself:

    1) The place we live has only one road in and out.
    2) It's often busy... Especially at the end of the day...
    3) The motorway into the city is always busy and is made worse along with the main road by year-long roadworks...
    4) Made even worse some days due to a rugby match at a stadium nearly RIGHT NEXT TO the main road...

At least I have a bike and the Stadium has a gym!

Unrelated: One of the Maths Classrooms I am in is ridiculously cramped when you are sat at the tables.

Its really nothing to fret about, the missions arent as fun as I wish they would be, the money grind is ridiculous. Of course the hilarity of playing with friends and random **** happening is there, but its over-hyped. In my freetime I've been watching breaking bad as apposed to playing it, because it simply doesnt interest me enough.

On another note, I've slipped myself into the friendzone with this girl. Can't really judge if its all that bad or not though, because I was going for her, but she just seems like a better friend than a girlfriend.

I see you didn't even make it to gluons. :(

If you want to get really frustrated, try to explain the implications of Godel's incompleteness theorems with respect to limitations on total knowledge.

MadWolf, it's a pretty fun game just for messing around. It's a very cathartic game for me lol. People with mental issues should NOT play the game

Dc, it look soo cool though, I still want to play it :X
Being friend-zoned isn't terrible if she's not what you're looking for. Usually it's rejection that makes being friend-zoned worse.. but if it's mutual then it's okay. I say this because this has sort of recently happened to me. Still can't tell but oh well, can't thinka bout it too much.

Save for my physics teacher and my astronomy teacher, aswell as possibly a few of the more self-applied students, I have doubts that anyone else in my school even knows or comprehends quantum theory, or axiomatic systems. I personally have a small base of knowledge myself because of the internet, but still find quantum mechanics confusing.

Which is another thing that frustrates me, every source I've read from talks about how the U.S has a mediocre/horrible science and math education system (I'm a senior at a public high school, so the demographic would effect me), which upsets me to think that I could be way past the point I'm at now. This is why I've been doing alot of independent learning via lectures and educational videos on youtube. <3 khan academy.
