It's that time again, another Halo Bulletin released today with all kind of juicy tidbits. Here are some of the highlights... Consolidation of playlists was a major point of the article. Once the consolidation is complete, the list of playlists will look like this: Spoiler 8v8 - Big Team Battle 5v5 - Capture the Flag 4v4 - Infinity Slayer (may be renamed to Team Slayer) 4v4 - SWAT 4v4 - Action Sack 4v4 - Team Snipers (next update on 9/30) 4v4 - Ricochet (next update on 9/16) 2v2 - Team Doubles (next update on 9/16) 8-player FFA - Rumble Pit 10-player FFA - Flood Community Playlist: 4v4 - Team Throwdown (next update in October) Community Playlist: 4v4 - Grifball Also added to that list will be a rotational playlist, which is slated to begin on 9/30, and change every two weeks. Here's a (very) tentative schedule: Spoiler 9/30 - King of the Hill 10/14 - Oddball 10/28 - Forge Playlist (specifics coming soon) 11/11 - Multi-Team 11/25 - Dominion 12/9 - Race 12/23 - Rocket Race The article also featured some information on DLC, and 343's plan to implement it into matchmaking more effectively. The update then offered up a preview of (possible) things to come. Finally, bs angel left us with this bit to warm our hearts. Lot's of interesting stuff this time around. Forge Richochet playlist perhaps? Right before I left the States of Austria again, I heard chatter from some of the CC's that Richochet maps is what they were gonna be looking for soon.
Will the other playlists like doubles ever get updated with new/better forgemaps? Anybody know if the CC's/343i are looking into that?
Maybe finally we can ACTUALLY now fix multiplayer since the sucky playlists are gone and now thinking about it didn't last bulletin they said " were adding ricochet to multi team" i dont think there going to now so thats a lie. And also they said " we can't wait for community made maps for ricochet" So with that said there's gonna be ALOT of ricochet maps since it's the next competitive gametype and also talking around with some of the forgers that inhabit here that it's going to be in v5 for AGL. Since Dominion is gone do you guys think now we have the chance to get CONVERSION into multiplayer? Just a thought in mind c:
Conversion? Ewwwwww... I've got nothing against the gametypes, more the maps that have been forged for it. Yeah, lets try to copy the same shitty design principles behind Reach's Invasion maps instead of trying to improve the core concept of the maps instead. Bloody brilliant. Every Conversion map I played was at its core fundamentally broken. Unbalanced to such an extreme that I could camp all day on every map and sufficiently support my team in holding down objective points... But for some odd reason, the guys behind Conversion seem to like that as it was part of Invasion. If you're gonna copy or revisit a design/concept, it's best not to aim to copy it entirely and to instead try to improve upon it.
Take this with a grain of salt, because I've spent no time testing Conversion. But isn't that the point of Invasion, and any moving-objective gametype? That you have a largely static war over the objective until (or unless) the offense wins, and then it moves on to the next? In that sense it's not much different than moving king of the hill. I guess I don't quite understand your objection.
Campy spots and general poor balance. Too many games Warholic and myself sat in on, we were instructed to back off and let the other team take the objective because they wanted to test the whole map... The teams generally were relatively balanced, it's just that there were easy exploitations in the maps that essentially broke the maps. Worse yet, after a substantial period of time had passed and I got to play with them again (they don't like me in the lobbies I hear) these flaws were still terribly apparent.
OK, I withdraw. Sounds more like poor design than the philosophy of the gametype that bothers you. I think it's probably possible to make good conversion or invasion maps, but it's certainly hard - every objective location has to be really carefully chosen, with multiple points of attack and no places to defend from that are too powerful. That's a tough balance - tougher than moving KOTH, I think, because of a couple key differences in how that gametype unfolds.
When was the last time they had a proper forge playlist? I remember thinking that they were going to be fairly common when the first was announced.
Calling it now, 343 is going to pull a "hey look at what we made on our own!" and then just implement the Race mod.
Glad for the update, but where is all of the team objective smaller than BTB? All that's left is CTF.. Also doubles update *drool*
Really interested in seeing which forge maps will be put in for doubles, anyone got some inside info on that?
Fallout is going in 4 sho, Landfall being swapped out Not sure what else. I believe some form of Solace (most likely Solari) was also confirmed as staying in.
I heard Rocket Race, everything is peachy as far as I'm concerned. I also like the required DLC thing, they needed to be more confident in the DLC, so it's good to see them pushing it. Especially the Majestic pack, which was easily my favourite of the four.
OK... I will say it... Reach has a population that rivals 4. Why won't they do any community playlists for Reach? And why didn't they add additional maps to big team skirmish instead of letting it die on the vine for? That was the most fun playlist ever!
It's old and they're not willing to make updates for it. There was a post a while back on the Waypoint forums by 343 saying that they had no plans to update Reach in the future.
