Its funny b/c 2 or 3 days ago I was on a nostalgia trip looking up all these classic vids. I always get a strong trip of nostalgia when I watch HMV hell 1. Then BAM, on twitter I see HBO post about HMV hell 4 and I was like "WHAT A COINCIDENCE!!!!".
Will you be submitting this to the Flood contest? It looks great! Verticality can be very interesting in Flood.
Well, I've got two maps to report on this time. The first is obviously the one I was working on in Reach, which is actually turning out fairly nicely so far. Mac canon (and supporting structures) and the Barracks are complete, I'm currently working on the Balcony area and the halls. Not that I expect anyone to have a single clue what I'm talking about though. My other map I'm currently calling "Longer" even though it's nothing like CE's "Longest." It's really more of an Epitaph kind of map in one way or another. I don't have any pictures yet, but I'm building it on Impact and it's a sort of UNSC packaging facility of some kind. I'd actually like to request help with this one. I think it's got a fair amount of potential (more so than my usual maps) and I'd like to get a second opinion and forge skills on the job so I don't screw it up like I've done with every other map I've attempted to build. I've got nobody in particular in mind, just help in general would be great. There's a flood map contest going on at the moment. I'll pull up the link for you if I find it, but it should be in Forge Discussion I think. EDIT: Here you go. Cyanide you say? Now make one called Happiness and release them at the same time. Not sure if anyone will get that...
You bastard. Naw just kidding, am interested in seeing what you/others would do to Epitaph's design. I liked Epitaph and while it definitely had it's flaws at it's core it has a great design. What I did with Eulogy was make it so that you could not encompass the map without having to cross through the middle atrium at some point. That was one of the flaws with Epitaph was that it had so many routes it was somewhat hard to predict spawning and player movement.
Epitaph is one of many bad maps that the inherent design I was a fan of. I'd love to see a proper successor forged that does the design due justice. New Avy!
I'm testing out some aesthetic changes on Epicenter. The test version also has extraction sites in different positions. I'd love to hear opinions on both aspects of the test version, so if anyone cares to take a look, or to test, you can check it out here... File Browser Halo Official Site
Hahaha. I have no idea if you're being serious, but that cracked me up. I actually tend to prefer bland aesthetics. Well, maybe not 'bland'. I prefer consistent textures. Some people, however, really dislike the tunnel pieces used as walling, so I tried to break it up a little bit. I actually like the new look quite a bit, and the changes shouldn't affect gameplay at all, which is my main concern.
Well, if the idea I posted over at ForgeCafe goes through then we'll have one But yeah, I agree. On another note, I'll just leave these here... Spoiler EDIT: Also, the semi-circles on longer are only there while I'm forging. Just a problem with the z-fighting that I don't care to remove until the entire map is done (because doing every time I start the map would be a pain). On another note, it's lost the Epitaph vibe... I'll end up doing a map more akin to epitaph in the future, as I do like the actual idea behind that map. This one just decided to take it's own course though.
Alright, "longer" is Longer no longer. (Pun totally intended). Re-named to Misriah Packaging Facility (becuase that's the design) and is now complete with spawns and weapons. It's also up on my fileshare if anyone wants to see it. Still putting the finishing touchs, want to get a couple games going on it to determine what gametypes will work best (IE, 2v2, 4v4 or FFA).
Can I just express, I hate any frame drops on maps? Played in Duck's Dominion lobby last night and the frame drops where just horrendous. Aside from that, all the maps just looked super forgey. Very little aesthetic coherency amongst the whole lot. There was one on Erosion that was particularly bad on both points, but also was extremely difficult to navigate because of the lack of contrasting colors... All the browns blend together in such a way that it's extremely disorienting. Also updated the list of maps I like. Don't know how I forgot to list The Ark. Cobalt and Salem both are on the list, although Salem appears to getting a vast overhaul and really didn't play too well... I loved the aesthetics though. Had a real organic feel to it. Just looked like a real map. The reason why I have a list of maps I actually like in my signature is to make it easier for people to see that I'm not just a hater. It also helps give some insight as to what I look for in a map.
Because I can't tell what the tone is from just reading text and instinctively I jump to negative connotation. Same reason why people can't tell when I'm being playful and coy and think I'm just being an ***.
