Site Update: 7/14/13 Well, it's certainly been awhile since one of these. Before I continue to dish what's happening around these fine parts and what is in store for us in the future, I wanted to take some time out for myself and let you all know something. Good, now that we have covered that, let's get into some actual news. As many of you might have noticed over the last few weeks, or will notice, the site has gone through a change in ownership as well as several changes in leadership. Whatever you do: Since TDF sold the original site, Forgehub's ownership has always been a third party that was completely removed from our community. Our caretaker who worked under that ownership, kajin, had devoted much time into keeping this site up and running, and though we thank him for that, he could not keep the site going any longer. The owners put the site up for auction and Overkill VR, now known as oVR here on the forums, bought the site. oVR might not have been in this community, but rest assured he is very involved with Halo and has been forging for years so thankfully our ownership is finally on the same level as the rest of us. With a change in ownership comes a fresh perspective. Overkill was not content to just buy the site and sit on his new asset while letting it continue its downward spiral of activity. Since buying the site many changes have been done, are in the process of getting done, or will be rolled out in the coming weeks. All we request from you, our community, is patience while we try to bring you the best experience we can possibly give you. This is not just about the staff; we want to know what you guys want to see in our ever-changing forum and we will consider it. Stop by this thread to see some of the changes we have implemented, what we plan to do, and suggest changes of your own. One of the largest changes you guys might have noticed is the Halo 4 maps database board has been consolidated. We are now moving to a system that emphasizes prefixes making it easier to find what kind of map or gametype you want to play. To further help you find exactly what you're looking for don't forget to use the filter at the bottom of the board to weed out any maps you don't want to look at. Staff Changes One of the largest changes around the site is an entirely new staff. First thing, I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every member who has ever served as staff at ForgeHub. You guys are what made Forgehub the great community it has been and helped it grow. Understandably, times change and hardships will come about, but you guys waded through the complaints, spent long hours testing maps, helped out the community whenever possible, and provided a framework for future staff to follow. Again, thank you. You all deserve a round of applause. That's right, there will finally be some closure to the maps you guys submitted way back when. Again, more news will be revealed soon as well as many other planned events being discussed. Remember, we want your feedback here. If you have an event idea don't feel shy to suggest it here. We also aren't against members running their own contests. We'll even plug it here if your competition keeps within reasonable standards of professionalism. Community [l-col] Do you like brains? Do you like eating people with brains? Do you enjoy shooting people who like to eat brains? Do you enjoy playing with other people that also like to do those things? If the answer to all those questions is, yes...or brains, then BIOC is the community for you. BIOC, or "Bloodthirst: Infection Only Customs" is a customs games group completely devoted to all things Flood including hosting Flood-only lobbies, testing maps and an ongoing database of the best Flood maps. If you're interested, check out BIOC here. If you want a more direct route to where all the commotion is happening at this present time, make an account over at Halo Customs and check out BIOC here.[/l-col] [r-col] Still going strong is The Circle of Jerks. This group holds lobbies to test your maps and will give you some of the most honest feedback you'll ever hear (whether you want to hear it or not). Check them out in the custom games board or visit TCOJ here.[/r-col] These two groups are not the only guys in town. Feel free to schedule your own games here. We'd love to see you out there and play on your maps. Maybe your creation will be the next hit. Social Media We have big plans for our social media outlets as well. Follow us on Twitter or like us on Facebook. We will have more news about this soon but check out our Youtube Channel and subscribe to it because we will start churning out content there as well like map features, weekly shows, and more. Caption Contest Instead of asking a question of you guys, I'll just ask for a humorous caption. You guys have 14 days after this Site Update to submit the funniest caption you can think of for this image. To submit, just post your caption in this thread. You may only submit 1 caption. The captions will be judged by the staff and the winner will be announced two site updates later. To clarify, you have 2 weeks to think of captions and the staff have 2 weeks to judge them. The winner will be announced after those 2 weeks and another caption image will be presented. The site update in-between will not contain a caption contest image. The winner will receive a custom title of his or her choice (an appropriate one within reason) above their avatar. The winner gets to have the custom title until the next winner is announced, at which point the previous winner's CT will be reset. Didn't like what you read? Feel free to give feedback about this article in the front page feedback thread
Nice write up Pac! Glad to see this be brought back and you bringing us all up to speed. Congrats on your new position btw.
Definitely good to see this up. Hopefully we'll have more for you next time, as we're all still figuring out nearly everything, and they how we;'ll go about doing that everything. But still, we're making progress. Its good to see a shoutout to the old staff. They haven't deserved everything that's happened in truth, and I do respect them and thank them for everything. They held this place together without the tools to change much of anything, and its been a rough road for us all.
Its awesome to see some nice amount of progress being made, my internet is very limited here on vacation.. But I just had to check it out. Was a nice read Pac too. Good to see BIOC getting back up, just as TCOJ. They were never really down anyways. Very glad to see this all, I will check every now and then, when Im back from vacation I hope to see even more improvement. But I do not doubt anyone, Im very sure things will get done, for sure.
Awww. I just now read the bit where you say that the current winner of the caption contest loses his custom title once there's a new winner. Shame the current winner can't keep it.
Plus, do you really want a forum where most people have a custom title? I think that would be rather annoying, personally.
Perhaps a median point could be achieved, with winners being granted a custom title for a few weeks, or a month. Something a little more incentivising, but without spamming the forum with custom titles.
2 weeks is a few weeks. This is a minor contest meant for fun. The prize is just something to shoot for if a prize is all that motivates you to participate. A funny caption isn't a month kind of prize ya know?
"you have 2 weeks to think of captions and the staff have 2 weeks to judge them." The next site update the winner will be announced. This way there is plenty of time for submissions, plenty of time for us to judge them, and the winner gets to have their prize for a solid month until the next CC winner is announced.
Yes over, because every time I do this contest I expect there to be two pictures. You've solved how recurring contests work.
