Since the other thread in this forum is for the updates, I will post this here. Again, I wish to congratulate each and every one of you who have taken to heart the massive clean out of the old ForgeHub and usered in the New ForgeHub! I see most of the horse carcases that were laying about have been neatly hauled away, but I found one that I feel I need to take another whack at. With the "Under New Management" sign being hung prominently in the front window, what is the new managements thoughts on bringing back the thumbnails for the new maps being uploaded to the forums? It was a nice touch to see a little preview of the map before looking at the entire posting, IMO. Any chance of that coming back? I know many have asked for this to be put back on the site when it was still under the old managements care, but there was not too much of a reason for not having them. Anyone care to elaborate on their return or the reasons why they are gone forever?
I would definitely like to see this feature return. Of course that's only me speaking personally, but I think the majority would be all for this change. Well, "recruiting" new members can be done in many ways - reaching out to other communities, getting more involved with the social media scene (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), and actively producing more content that will bring in users from outside the community (mainly talking about a youtube presence here). All of which we are currently working on and/or organizing.
I was going to write this thread off as a complaint dump-box up until the last few pages, good to see everyone had the sense to get back on-topic. Speaking of on-topic, I also like the idea of bringing back the thumbnail images for map posts. You could usually tell the quality of a map just by a glance at the thumbnail, and I think it will re-add a little more interest back to the map posting forum(s). Provided people don't abuse the system again; it was annoying to see a bunch of flashing images when you're trying to browse for interesting maps. If it is going to be reintroduced, I believe strict rules should be implemented to avoid photosensitive seizures from occurring.
Might I suggest color-coding the new map prefixes to help differentiate them from one another in the topic list?
Yeaah, not so happy about this one. Granted the graphics forum was barely alive but still, explanations please.. Im fine with it in the meantime as long as it comes back sooner rather than later.
The graphics forum was... very dead. Most threads in there were untouched for weeks or months. With the little traffic FH has, the forums were condensed to bring people together. Forums can always be expanded later.
Most of the threads were dead but not all of them. Perhaps picking the more active threads and moving them to general chat would most prudent.
Done. All G&A threads receiving activity within the past 2 weeks have been moved the Off Topic board. I'll work on getting a G&A prefix asap.
Tackle this while you're at it Dax. Competitive ► Color Red Infection ► Rename to Flood Casual ► Color Purple Race ► Color Blue Aesthetic ► Color Yellow/Gold Mini-Game ► Color Orange Those colors are totally arbitrary but seem fitting based on the subject matter of the respective gametype.
I guess when that time comes to expand, Eclipse will be sent into Off-Topic to categorize and move all of the old graphics threads back into the graphics forum? Great idea guys.
It's more of an eyecatch. Someone comes in and sees 100 members on in the last 24 hours, it's much more enticing than 15 members on currently.
It's enticing for all of 15 seconds, then it becomes an eyesore that takes up too much room. It's good that it's hidden by default now.
grouping all category of maps together is actually a good idea. Finally traffic will flow for lesser looked upon maps giving it a chance to be blessed So far, the changes are all just fine with me, however, perhaps one addition could be the main page, making the maps the center of attention before the news. I don't know, I would not want to miss any important announcements myself, but maybe there is a way to make both noticeable very easily and quickly.
Yes, the maps were all consolidated into one section for many reasons such as keeping all the traffic in one section as well as shedding light on maps that would otherwise go unnoticed b/c it may be a style of map that some individuals may not necessarily prefer. This way everyone sees every map that is posted and if they are searching for any particular style of map they can sort the entire forum by the prefixes. The maps will be the MAIN focus of this site and in order to do so the forums will have to be consolidated. All the streamlining greatly increases the traffic and overall reach of any given piece of content posted on this site. This will make it easier for existing, new and potential members to find what they need quickly and clearly display all the work that the community does. This site will be more streamlined and minimalist in design to make sharing maps very simple and very effective at showcasing the best that the Halo community has to offer.
If they're going to be consolidated like this, you should increase the "threads per page", color each of the prefixes, and consider adding thumbnail pictures again.
