So I feel that this thread isn't encouraging discussion, but since it isn't locked, I shall post. Is there a way to disable the auto-censor? I understand why you don't want this listed as an adult site, but at the same time I feel like that should be an opt-out type of situation.
To start, good work so far guys. Looking forward to site changes. For map tests, rather than having a testers guild, I'd suggest simply having a forum section in itself for that sort of thing and allowing all users to run tests on others maps (outside of forgehub custom times) rather than just a specific group of people. This'll allow not only for those people to help others with their maps and understandin, but the people giving feedback will have the chance to grow with it too. Of course, if more than one user here is able to test a map, then there'll be more diverse feedback. If a users make a bad call, someone will also be able to point it out after having run their own tests. Anyway that's just a poorly worded thought that I felt I ought to share. Did those forums ever leave? I must not have been paying attention... It's good their back though. As my Halo 4 disc doesn't work, I've got a couple projects nearing completion on reach that I'm working on, so it'll be nice to have a place to post them once they're finished. EDIT: I just realise this probably isn't the thread to be giving suggestions... whoops.
If I may throw out a suggestion: Remove the "Members that have visited here in the last 24 hours" in the forum index. It's an eyesore.
Now, I do have a question about this line here: What exactly does that mean? Can you provide any insight into what the structure of that would be like? What I take from that is that all maps & gametypes would be merged into one forum with prefixes to separate maps by game. I'm not a fan of that idea since if it is what I think it is it could lead to a lot of confusion when looking for maps. But, that's why I'm here asking for clarification.
All the map subforums (such as gametypes, casual, etc.) will be merged in to just one main forum, and all maps will have a prefix of its nature (Competitive, mini-game, etc.), basically your assumption was correct.
Alright, that makes more sense now that I go over it a few times and what I was thinking wasn't what I had meant to say, kinda. I think at least. I'm not sure. But it does make sense now. Now then, as far as the Site Rules and TOS are concerned, would it be possible that when the time comes for those to be changed and updated, that we could possibly view a draft before they become finalized? Mainly just so everyone can get familiar with the changes and offer some constructive input or help make some rules easier to understand in the long run.
My only concern with this plan is the potential organizational problems. With maps grouped by category now it makes it easy to look through just say mini-games. If everything was lumped together than you'd have to go searching for what you want among prefixes. Some map types are more common than others (your regular competitive maps) so they would push less common map types to older pages giving an unfair advantage to people who make maps of a specific type. Now, this could all be alleviated if filters are built into the forum so that say you type in "race" then all maps with a prefix "race" appear at the forefront. Without such a filter system, I don't see this proposed change helping people. At least not helping people find less common prefix maps.
I do believe there is already a search filter at the bottom of the forum that includes prefix specific filters, so if you are looking for a certain map types you can find them more easily. So I don't think you will have that much trouble finding the maps you are looking for. And with the maps all in one main forum, new members can stumble upon maps they may not have otherwise been looking for (but thats just my own little thought on the matter).
I actually think it's worth keeping, If it's really a eyesore maybe make it smaller or move it, But its good to have imo When there is only 5-12 users signed in at average(at least when I look) it's easy to get the impression site is "dead" but if shows 100+ people been here last 24hours gives off the impression that site isn't dead populations just spread thin though timezones. Which is good for Forgehub if users and visitors get the impression site is active.
As long as we don't lose any "categories" and have just as refined searches, Because having them all grouped up with easy to browse and view is good imo. One more suggestion is I've seen sites with twitter feeds on the side in little boxes showing the most recent twitter posts @Forgehub it would be good if had an active forgehub twitter and have one of those boxes to publicize when customs are happening when people have posted maps(people can @Forgehub there maps and show up in the feed) and stuff would make forgehub more Public and feel more active, Someone on twitter might see a customs tweet and decide to join in and then maybe join site or see a map been tweeted and download map then maybe join site etc
That makes sense. You all are a part of this community, you should have a look at them when we draft it up.
Absolutely, but this may take a while. As for the twitter account, surprisingly enough, I discovered that FH does have a twitter account as well as a youtube channel but have been severely neglected. It is definitely something that is going to happen but will take a lot of work to get off the ground and maintain it.
A couple of things: 1. Who actually looks at that? 2. Why are we trying to achieve the impression of activity rather than activity itself? If that visitor stays for a week or two, they will have the same impression with and without that members list because the site is just as dead. I say we should get rid of it, streamline the site and get rid of unnecessary tools, submenus, etc. Make every bit of the site about the maps, not the members. Because hell knows visitors aren't coming to hang out with members, they're here for the maps. It doesn't matter if there are a million people in the recent history on the site if there are no good maps posted - that visitor is lost forever. I'm glad there's some active discussion going on here at ForgeHub now that Overkill is in charge..
I think just having it minified as default is sufficient. That way anyone who wants to see that kind of info can just click the down arrow while people who think it's an eyesore and takes too much screen real estate will be happy to with it not appearing by default.
1.Apparently You, Me, Noxiw, Dax, Sheogorath, Zero Point, Noooooch, PacMonster1 and that's just confirmed cases from a couple posts in this thread I'm sure other people have seen it to. 2.Because giving the impression of activity improves activity. I'm not sure how showing users logged in within last 24 hours (that gives the impression of activity) Would detract from activity in anyway shape or form considering it's not taking away from any other aspect we either have it or we don't and I feel its more beneficial to have it.
"Oh, 150+ users in last 24 hours? Looks like the site is coming back so I'll stick around." VS "Only 10 members on right now? #forgehubisdad"
