Also, I feel like a great deal of you are looking through rose-tinted glasses at what ForgeHub used to be. Certainly, there were quality maps being created and a large community behind them, but at the core of it there was the extremely corrupt system of "Guild Members" that required a lengthy application process that only served to superficially give people hopes at becoming a part of a secret society. And then the creation of the Hub Pub gave dedicated members a secret area to post, these members only being selected based upon the already corrupt staff. This circle of raising others to the ranks of "Loyal" and whatnot only served to segregate the community further. Members on the top were sure to keep those deemed "annoying" or "immature" at bay based upon the circle of promotion within the upper ranks.

That being said, the Friday Custom Nights and events within the community like testing nights and "Best of Forge" voting served to bring the community together so not all was bad. But looking back at the "glory days" like nothing was wrong is a mistake.

EDIT: Sorry for double posting, just wanted to make sure y'all saw this. Also, if any of you oldie members attend the University of Florida message me.

We had taken steps to improve how the Loyal rank was achieved, though, and I think we found a sweet spot for it right up until it was removed in the overhaul. It did serve a purpose as motivation for volunteering in the guilds, so I don't believe it was without merits. I can't speak to what it was like before my time here, though.

did we really have to enforce a site-wide filter?

most of us are older than 12.

If we're an adult site due to swearing, YouTube must be as well.

google owns youtube so of course youtube is the exception, youtube does have age censoring and profanity warnings in place though.

Halo is a rated M game. Why should we care if a site for a M rated game is considered "adult" or "mature"?

adsense, google won't put ads on or of adult sites and of course those ads would help pay to support the costs of hosting the website so there isn't really a choice.

Yep. I totally understand that, and I was aware of the rule when I made that post. I appreciate your explanation, for those that aren't aware of why that rule was in place. And you are correct actually...I wasn't infracted, I was given a warning. I just saw it listed on my 'Infractions' tab, but I do recall now that it was just a warning and not an actual infraction. Regardless, for as long as there have been rules, there have been rules that people disagreed with, even rules that most people agreed were stupid. Calling someone you don't know a dictator, or inferring that they don't know what they're doing when you have no idea if they know what they're doing, especially when it's the owner/administrator of the site is certainly more worthy of a warning/infraction than what I did in that post. I was just trying to lend some perspective to some of the complaints popping up right now.

No, I jump to that conclusion because I have seen this argument a lot on Forgehub, several times at least. Always about the population count, but whatever. It is not the point of this thread, so we better stop anyways.

Is there a way to allow users to individually turn off filters and still keep adsense?

That would be ideal but I guess if not policy is policy.

I was looking at a plugin that does that. Censorship would be enabled by default so guests wont be exposed to profanity but registered users could disable it.

This sounds beneficial to everyone. Google will accept us and less frustration from members.

    To oVR:

I like the new functions of the site such as the "maps in progress" "finished maps" sections and how the chatbox is at the top of every page. I also understand that you took a risk in spending a lot of money to try to get the site restored, i appreciate that.
I understand that you are under a lot of pressure and that you are doing your best and i appreciate that as well. But what i don't appreciate is the means of control. I don't appreciate the threats towards my friends and peers, i don't appreciate the "my word is law" attitude that you have shown. Although i understand you have that right, you will earn no respect from your community with that attitude. You command respect but you must also give respect. That is how it works.

My suggestion is to try to be a little less imposing over your community. Because nobody appreciates somebody breathing down their neck, and nobody appreciates threats to themselves, or their friends.(and that is what i think of many on this site as, friends or at least peers.)

you wanted "constructive criticism" and no "*****ing and moaning" here you go.

Unlike Halo Reach, Halo 4 only counts players in actual war games matchmaking.

Nobody plays war games matchmaking. So it's population shouldn't represent the full community, and especially not the forge community.

Wait, why do we even need a high population in Halo 4 to have a forging community. We only need so many people.

Just throwing this out here, but why not make microsoft points an incentive to Forging, although I can see problems with that because some are better than others at Forge, but maybe you could make a list of once a month or something, if someone already won MP, they don't get to join the next month so its fair for everyone.

Do you want to buy those points every month?
