Now there's an endorsement you want - the guy with 84 posts of non-stop trolling in your corner.

From where I sit, I don't see that anything substantial has changed (...yet). "Power abuse" and "favoritism" are what most people do when they have controlling interest in an internet site and no checks on their authority. In a scant few days we've already had unexplained staff demotions, staff demotions and infractions over petty personal nonsense, threads deleted to conceal the aforementioned petty personal nonsense, etc. Off to a rather rocky start. Now, the guy with the checkbook gets to make those kind of decisions, don't get me wrong. But it is pretty silly to pretend this is some new age of enlightenment compared to all the years before. The only difference between then & now, Haunted, is that you haven't spit in the eye of the new staff/admin the way you did the old ones. But hey, give it time. :)

I do still hold out hope that this will eventually result in this old girl, to whom I've devoted almost six years, turning in a favorable direction. The change in staff policies and attitudes during my time as a journo were long overdue - though with the high level of turnover between that staff iteration and the present one, who knows if the rules and their enforcement will maintain the same leniency or go in some new direction. Other, more meaningful changes (mostly in terms of site activities and content) are equally overdue and really should be what oVR should be working on, IMO. And hopefully he is. I'll be hanging around and waiting/hoping for it.

The new age of forgehub needs some contests and a better way of electing their featured maps. Contests don't really need to have any prizes other than map advertisement. It wouldn't cost anything and could be a way to get more people involved and posting at the site. There are so many possible contests that can be made up. Themed maps, maps for different gametypes or player counts, custom gametype contests. I just think people need more incentive to post here and to make maps in general. There could be so many ways this could benefit the site. I am a very competitive person, and I am also a very artistic person. It would really keep me going to have a sort of contest where I could win something for what I created and I'm sure I'm not alone in this feeling. Like I said, the prize only needs to be notoriety. I hope this idea is considered. I think there should always be some sort of running contest.

Are things really changing that much? stop being a bunch of butt-hurt little boys. I visit this site like once a week and I've hardly noticed any changes. Ofcourse there is a lack of activity in the map forums.. halo is kind of dead. But there is still a core of people who go on this site for the community, so why would that change? unless people are simply sad because they aren't a pretty color anymore.

    tl;dr

you guys make the site good, not the new admin/people running the site.

oVR really isn't just some random member though, he has been a fairly big figure in the halo community, he did the original classic playlist back in reach, did a whole host of testing and feedback provided for community maps and wrote a lot of well thought out essays about the game and ways to improve, he even created promod which has cost him $700 so the community could have a more real halo experience. he's only going to appear as a random member a long with some of the other staff to the people that never ventured anywhere out of there little clique.

this is all early days though, he still needs to get everything organized and the staff in place to move forward.

if anyone doesn't know, oVR is Overkill VR.

This is all really nice and exciting, but I think the community really only wants to know one thing; are you a boobs or an ass man?

I'd be able to explain it if I still had access to his infraction history.

Knowing you that's most likely not the entire story either.

I can promise you there was more than what meets the eye. As the head moderator, I ensured all infractions and bans were fairly given and just. If I felt at any point your ban was unnecessary, then I would have reversed it in a heart beat.

    Agreed.

Lets focus on how our admin is actually here and able to change things, and that Noooooch is a mod here now. Yay, Nooooooooooch! :D

The infraction was for being insulting, in clear violation of the site rules (and sufficiently so that it was one of only a handful of infractions I ever gave out during six months on staff).

The ban was incidental. I didn't realize you were banned at the time I gave you the infraction that resulted in it - someone told me later. I hadn't looked up your open infractions when I gave the infraction. Of course, even if I had, I would have done the same thing I did.

The message that went with that infraction was primarily about your overall negativity, which is a still-ongoing feature in your posts here. Despite what you may hear, it doesn't make you irascible and charming. But you weren't infracted for being "negative," you were infracted for telling people they were stupid, bad at forging, etc.

    But yeah: back to topic.

Most of the changes i have seen i liked, but i was never really involved with tgif or TCOJ all that much (whichever subforum was removed) so I am unaffected, i can see where annoyance would come in if a subforum was removed to a group i was active in. I don't understand what the big deal is anyway, most of the complaints i see are from people who i have not seen in a while or never seen at all. And of course that does not invalidate their opinions, it is just a little unnerving to see a bunch of new people come in and start to stir things up. Not matter how you look at it, the fact is that right now, there is way more activity on the site than there has been for many months, change is needed to rebuild a community, but people are complaining about the change. I don't understand.

Indeed, I haven't even addressed the complete disappearance of the guild I helped for so long, but I don't mind seeing what the plan is before discussing it. There's only so much you can do with a game as disappointing as H4, after all.

    Not sure if serious...
I'll let you be the judge, though. This post was infracted as 'Spam'. Click here
When I asked for an explanation, I was told that I was infracted for posting the 'Map Posting Rules', and that despite the fact that it was a stupid rule, they had to infract me nonetheless.

Anyway, that's beside the point. The vast majority of the complaints being raised currently are being blown way out of proportion.

At the time of the implementation of the rule, found HERE, multiple users were posting in each thread that they require pictures just as your post had done. These users did not contribute to the map thread, and simply posted the same copy and pasted message tens of times in an effort to "help", but also raising their own post count. Like I said, multiple users in each thread, meaning one could open a thread and find in upwards of five users in each thread telling the poster their map was posted incorrectly. As this problem worsened, I personally began to give warnings in threads after a user had posted these map guidelines, and that worked fine for a while. However, it was found that the moderator's posts warning users that further reminders of the rules was equally as much spam and those duplicate copy/pasted responses. As such the moderation staff asked users to report threads which did not follow map posting guidelines, but few did, opting to rather post the same spammy message many times in each thread. Thus leads to our announcement, which was put in place at the time moderation began asking for users to report posts. This announcement, which detailed closely a change in forum rules, was visible on every map forum at the very top of the page, visible to all users. At the bottom of the message was a threat, warning users of actions taken against themselves if they take actions into their own hands. Sadly, many did not read this announcement and the addendum to the rules, but nonetheless it still applied.

So, this is why you got an warning. Note that no one was ever given an infraction for posting the map guidelines in a thread. Every user affected was simply warned about their actions and informed of the new rule change in this fashion.

I've had some of the best internet friends I could have because of this site, and I attribute a good deal of who I am to the friends I made through ForgeHub. I really hope you guys can figure out how to revive this site so others can be a part of a great community.
