ok I am a weird breed, I love Halo, COD and BF. But lets face it game companies have been using the same sorry engines for like the last 6yrs with very little changes if any. I used to Love COD but after buying the last 4 DLC's I mean games I'm kinda done with them. BF took some huge risks with lighting, destruction and textures. it is an amazing game period.
I have researched BF4 and found release is set for fall 2013, for PS4, 720, PC and even 360 and PS3. while I don't totally believe this, it kinda makes sense. This year is a transition year to next Gen consoles, and lets face it Microsoft is not gonna let PS4 drop without some competition.
I heard the game will have toned down graphics on the older systems, kinda like how we downloaded patch a for BF3 which improve graphics just in reverse.
not sure if servers will tie in both systems or not, but I could see some issues there with processing speeds etc...

I do know BF4 and GTA5 are the only must buy games for me this year. And I can't wait to see future footage in the up coming months.

The textures are cleaner, lighting looks about the same. But the core of the game seems to remain unchanged which I can live with until companies are designing specifically for Next gens. Come 2014-15 I better be blown away by the vast improvements in games both in scale and in look, but for now I can live with it.

When I first heard about Battlefield 4, annoyed and even a little angry. I didn't like the release date and I could've mistaken the first gameplay trailer for a Battlefield 3 expansion. I was pretty confident that I wasn't going to buy the game.

    Then I saw this video

After watching that I am seriously considering buying this game. I have been dreaming about destruction like that since I first played Bad Company all those years ago.

Did any of you cynics see the multiplayer from e3? Not sure why you'd judge a game that is multiplayer at its core off of a single-player video, but there seem to be some significant improvements.
I'm just having trouble deciding if I want this for PC this time around. I'm not sure I could meet my own standards using a keyboard and mouse.

That's really cool but I wonder how much of that is doable in multiplayer game settings. Like if you destroy a pillar will the whole roof fall in in online multiplayer or is that just single player. I could see that as being somewhat annoying if people could just pop in from any wall/floor/ceiling at any given moment. Hope they didn't make it that detailed.. though it would make things interesting lol

I think in the video they do say that the destruction allows for dynamic multiplayer maps. I think being able to destroy floors and ceilings is an awesome feature.

Think of it more like Close Quarters. There will be a lot of small-scale destruction in addition to the specific buildings that can fall like in 3, as well as the occasional skyscraper or other landmark that can be knocked over. You won't be able to just flatten the entire play-space anymore because they still want to retain the design of the level.

    You mean this?

Aside from the (awe-inspiring) destruction, that could easily be mistaken for a BF3 expansion trailer.

I didn't buy Battlefield 3 because when I rented it and tried the multiplayer at release (friend worked at EA so I got the pass), I didn't like it at all but Battlefield 4 looked amazing at E3 and if I am able to knock down a skyscraper in multiplayer, that's enough for me to purchase the game. That kind of destruction and graphics is unparalleled and I would buy it just to experience the technology right away, even if it's not that fun in the long run. I don't really think it's quite as fair to judge games by their polycount anymore considering the diminishing returns you get once you start sacrificing other things for more and more tris, only to make little to no difference. In fact, there are usually A/B comparisons run within companies and people sometimes pick the lower "resolution" one anyways. I think DICE is a really talented team, especially for their art, which is why I'm not surprised by the similarities in that regard.

Since EA is listening to their consumers now, I really hope that they eventually allow some kind off modding or something like that. I think that drove a lot of the older PC games way back, when servers ran custom maps and what have you. You might not be able to have a fancy battlelog to account for it but it was amazing back then. Unrelated: Delta Force: Xtreme was really good at that.

Don't get all of the "this is generic" hate. Battlefield has always innovated through focusing on small things that add to the whole experience (while they may make it look ordinary); it seems like no one will drop that complaint until BF introduces something that looks absolutely retarded on a modern military FPS, like invisibility or jetpacks (and even then, it'd probably get shat on for copying BLOPS II). I just don't know how often a 32/64 player destruction-based modern military FPS comes out, let alone one that utilizes such beautiful physics found in something like Frostbite, pays such close attention to detail, creates incredibly large, realistic, or intricate maps, and uses less common team-based mechanics and point systems.

Fun fact: my cat threw up just as I got to the end where the building blew up. It must mean something cool or not so cool. Either way, must mean cats will be introduced to battlefield 4. Cod ain't got nothing on cats.

Nah, it's some of the gameplay changes they've already discussed. C4 going to the recon; more weapons that can be used on every class such as marksman rifles and carbines instead of just PDW's; commander mode coming back; perk system being switched for group bonuses that unlock during each game independently as you work with your squad. Nice equipment choices too, like ammo and health packs that stay with an individual player for a while so they don't just run from it; supports get heavy grenade launchers now to make up for the lack of C4.

If you compare any BF game to the one the came before it you see a huge difference in both graphics and gameplay.

These are the only things you said that couldn't be added to BF3 through an expansion.

Classes in BF3 aren't balanced to allow the kind of weapon variety I mentioned. The only thing you're actually saying that could be added through expansion is the heavy grenade launchers. Besides, BF3 already takes up more HDD space than my old 20GB would even allow.
Not sure why you have this attitude about it, especially when you're the one that posted a video that hints at some of the more significant engine changes.

By the way, there's a great looking spectator mode that I forgot to mention. I may post a video later.

The multiplayer gameplay for BF4 they revealed at E3 was amazing, but horribly scripted. I've been a fan of the Battlefield series since BF2 and it looks like BF4 won't be a let down, especially with the 64 player game lobbies and some new features they will be introducing to the next gen consoles. Although I will most likely not be getting BF4 because DICE also revealed a new Star Wars: Battlefront title which I am very intent on getting.

Even so, a restructuring of the classes isn't enough to justify an entire game. The engine changes are the main reason I'm buying the game anyway.

As long as they don't start releasing this game every year, I'm not too worried. There have already been more changes between 3 and 4 than between several of the CoD titles.

Of course the demo was scripted, they wanted to show off particular things. You could tell in the very beginning that he would have died from those helicopter hits, had he not been invincible. That would have been a terrible demo though, and it was all about destroying the skyscraper to jump off of it for style points. I can't wait to see the other levels though.
