Basically, we need more staff so there's at least 1 staffer online at almost any time to deal with any issues. More moderators means the work can be spread around more evenly and make stuff easier on everyone. Also, don't allow people to sit on ranks doing jack ****, if they've got a rank and have a job to fulfill, make them do so or kick them off. We've had too many staffers come in, do some work then sit on a rank for a period of time doing nothing else.

    That.

We need to make people aspire to be staff again, and then make them want to be there.

I have to agree with this, theres no incentive to make maps anymore, no bungie favorites, and not a big enough community to deal with.

I still hope the hub will regain strength. Organizing this will help, but sending a message out to the remaining Halo community, if possible, is something we should try for. More activity invites more incentive to make maps just from a competitive standpoint.

I'm also inclined to agree. I was really invested in this site when it started, I participated in game nights, I made maps (well one good one), and I helped run the site... in high school. The core users grew up, including myself. Those that are still around seem to be just here to talk occasionally. I mean I only post in the PPC...

I wish you the best of luck.

I have been on this Hub for quite a while now, and during Reach.. There were always some maps to watch, and some active forums. Watching as the light slowly started burning less brighter was not nice.
Maybe, I can now finally see, and experience what this Hub means to the people here. This certainly is the boost Forgehub needs, what we have waited for.

Holy poop. This is quite the dump of information, now let's get ForgeHub out of the toilet!

I didn't mean for this post to turn into crappy puns.

Adelyss is right. Halo is dead and it has been since Reach came out. Reach let everyone down. I like Halo 4, but it no where near as good as the first three. I'm only saying this because I was around when FH peaked and when it came down. I was on staff for a while and tried to do good, but it gets old fast especially when the site and game are dead. I'm just warning you that you will get tired of trying your best to get this back up to its former glory. You can't. Good luck anyway.

It's one thing to say Halo sucks now and another to say it will suck in the future. It could come back and it's pretty dumb to be so negative about that chance. Just saying. And if it doesn't, so be it, least I can say I didn't bail when I didn't know.

I agree that Halo, relative to its former glory, is dead. That doesn't mean that you can't have a community though. If I were overkill I'd focus on keeping the few players left tighter than glue. It doesn't matter how many people play as long as you have 15 other people to play with you. (And 343 keeps the lights on of course.) I wouldn't be surprised if the 'forge culture' ended up being an incredibly niche thing for about a thousand people, sort of like it was pre-foundry.

My ideas: (In no particular order)

Bungie never did make a custom games matchmaking, but you could. All you'd have to do is have a real time tracker of people playing customs looking for more people, because the people hosting are on forgehub they'll probably be good. To prevent falsely advertised lobbies you could have a way for people to publicly flag games that don't seem to exist. And then moderators could investigate.

I remember when I was making maps that I had a ton of them. The "build a cathedral" style of forging is probably done, on account of nobody left to worship. It'd be better for people to focus on maps that are fun, and look good as a secondary concern. (I assure you, when people play the aesthetics really don't matter.)

One thing I thought of, which was totally insane, is that if the coordinate system in halos forge always describes a certain point on the map, you could create a CAD program which lets you make maps on your desktop/laptop, and then uses a cheaply-made device to send radio signals to the xbox that correspond to the button inputs that would make the map. You could use this as a very slow form of file transfer, and as a way to rapidly make maps.

Sounds good :D I haven't really been forging lately because of the decline on FH. Hopefully the new changes coming will fix that.

It's not that Halo is "dead", it's that the industry and gaming in general has changed drastically. The big focus is on sales numbers and little to no care is given to game longevity, especially in the case of cash cows that can be milked with a new title every other year or so. The industry knows that they'll hit there sales figures every time. All they really do is zone in on hyping the game through marketing and implementing "revolutionary" changes that they can "applaud". And if that wasn't bad enough, the average gamer no longer cares about balanced competitive play and game longevity either. It's all about having a game that's easy to pick up and enjoyable to burn a little time with. Too many players don't want to invest time to get good at a time, they want the game to hold their hands... Not to mention the short attention span of gamers these days. They'll pick a game up for a couple of expensive laughs and move on to the next shiny disc in a couple weeks time.

I said this before, but unless you're a tech wizard or you have one hidden away somewhere, you're not going to accomplish much. This transition has broken the forums even more than they were before, so without a mastery over the technical side of things, you plans for the community are irrelevant.

Believe it or not, it doesn't take a computer genius to install vBulletin 4.2 (I know the previous owners had you believing otherwise), this site isn't technical at all... yet ;)

Yup. It doesn't take a genius to edit HTML or CSS either, you can read up about them on Mozilla Developer Network.

If I wanted to join a run-of-the-mill vBulletin forum operated by some random kid who felt like starting one, I could go anywhere; however, I'd like to have someone who knows what they're doing.
If that happens to be oVR or one of his crew, that's great, but I have yet to see any credentials or get a straight answer about it.
