Looks like a dumbed down version of Unity. Most of the games made with just the XBO and not the Win8 version are probably going to be pretty generic and uninteresting.
I also want to wait and see what the ToS are for using it.

Just by sheer number of users, some good stuff is bound to come out of it. The simplicity of it all is really going to shine, me thinks.

Of course it is a dumbed down coders game. Do you actually expect a casual game to have no graphics. no GUI or artwork and just a rendition of notepad? If you want to make a game, go make a game!

This is about exploring the concepts of games, making games within games and having an interesting time doing so in a very social way. It's the lovechild of forge slayer as a standalone game and the trials evolution map creator.

I'm looking forward to this one!

You forgot that it's easy enough to use that even Sharp could figure it out.

I want to make the most elaborate thing that I can in it. A MOBA would be cool if I could manage it.

Unity is quite definitely not 'a rendition of notepad'

My point is, it's nothing new. Not even new to consoles, or even the Xbox. See: Kudo Game Lab

The PC version of this NEEDS to be modable. I'm not holding my breath for MS to actually embrace user content and control to that degree, but it would make this tool so much more amazing if they opened it up for modders to add their own functions and graphical elements.

We've been talking with the developers and currently this seems very unlikely. The reason is because the game is accessible from every platform. Content made on Windows 8 will be accessible on the One and 360. Same with the One to 360 and 8 and 360 to One and 8.

Which a portion of the dev team previously worked on.

What exactly would you want the modding community to bring? The only thing that comes to mind is more textures.

It's surprising that people set unrealistic expectations, especially when talking about Microsoft, who rarely allows for modding or any kind of open source projects. I think the game looks really fun, and while it may be Unity/UDK with a GUI, I am alright with that. They're completely different though, unless you're a shitty programmer. I don't think this was meant for people who are a bit older, even though it will attract that crowd understandably. Some people don't want to learn how to program and just want a build-your-own-adventure sandbox game. I definitely think I'll give it a whirl once the price comes down on the X1 and I'm looking forward to it.

New textures, new models, which can them combine in to entire new themes to compliment the existing 3+ (since they've said they'll have more) and bring many more aesthetic possibilities. New models would also increase the creative capability of interactive objects, and considering you can apparently fuse them together (like they did with the mech in the demo), it means you can create much more expansive interactive worlds.

But more importantly, new brain functions, which would mean you could get deeper and more interactive experiences. More diverse functions would be great, but it'd be really awesome if they could expand on the simple cause/effect model and give objects/creatures entire passive action patterns etc. A more developed AI creation capability whilst still retaining the GUI model, would be nice if it could be done.

I don't know why you're calling it an expectation when I specifically said that it was unlikely, and because that's not MS's style. I said it would be awesome, albeit unlikely, and I stand by that. It's not an expectation in any sense, it's a vague hope, because it would increase the potential of this game and turn it from fun and interesting to a potentially longstanding, truly expansive creative resource.

BTW, it's going to be on PC as well, so you don't have to wait until the XBone comes down in price as long as you have a capable machine.

I think we'll all be surprised about how complex we can make the brains. With the help of Trigger Boxes, we can set pathing and with the helpful AND function that they showed off, multiple identifiers can be used for a function.

Agreed, though I still think there might be room for expansion in terms of passive, longer pattern behaviours, and just more in depth stuff. For instance, it'll be interesting to see how able we are to prioritise brain actions in the result of conflicts, or time overlap (eg. trigger for a new action is present when current action is still ongoing: how will this be resolved?).

I do think they're going to put out something awesome, but there are very few games which can't potentially benefit from the crowdsourced, expansive nature of community content and modification. When it comes to something like this, which fundamentally relies on as many possibilities and permutations as possible to guarantee diversity and longevity, the added depth of community input will definitely increase the game's potential to a huge degree. Assuming said modding community is possible, and gains size/momentum.

It wasn't meant to be a personal jab at you or anything, Pegasi. I have heard it in the past for other games and people fully expect it. When you're saying things like it will fail without it, it kind of makes me think you're setting unrealistic expectations for a game though, and that's okay because it doesn't really effect me that much. I'm glad that it will be on PC but I'm pretty sure most people won't upgrade to Windows 8 and I'll be all alone. I might just pick up the X1 for other games too. I'm fine with waiting to get one.

Fair enough, sorry for reading too much in to it. Though, I never said it would fail without it, just that potential and longevity would be increased. Basically, it'll very probably be more successful if they allow community addition and expansion via a nice backdoor for modders. Either way, I'm definitely getting this and my interest is definitely not conditional on modding ability. It'd just make me much more interested.

A very interesting live stream. This just shows the sheer power of the Brains system.
