Destiny looks meh to me at the moment because I don't know how it will play. I was a bit disappointed when they hinted at it being instanced though. Also, just makes me think Borderlands and Halo had a baby. That's not a bad thing but I'm kind of sick of Borderlands and Halo. It'll probably surprise me though and I'll pick it up anyways.
I'm actually unsure if I'm going to end up getting the X1 if they don't change their minds on backwards compatibility issue. I would just hope my roommate at the time decides to get it...
YUSSSSS They might just make an installation or update for backwards compatability like they did with the 360 for certain Xbox games.
I really don't think they are going to make it backwards compatible. I don't understand why people care so much about that feature. I mean yes it is nice, but unless you plan on selling your Xbox 360 then it is just a bonus, not a necessity.
I'm sad that there is no one person I feel comfortable sharing all the details of my life with, but you don't see me complaining.
Stouf, it's built on a different architecture, don't expect backwards compatibility. In fact, it's pretty ordinary for jumps between consoles. The only console with it is the Wii U. Sony said you will be able to stream some of the online games which is still a bit unclear. About as unclear as the barely working backwards compatibility for the original PS3 that they got rid of over time in the slim versions. I'm getting the X1 because I am actually excited by some of the features and I'll probably go for the exclusives. I have never been a fan of Final Fantasy (or other JRPGs) but the only exclusives for the PS4 that I find attractive is the Last of Us. I'm excited to hook a low-end computer into the HDMI in port of the X1 so there is little effort involved. I hope there's a low power mode for the X1 so it can idle if I am not doing anything on the X1 though. Set up the TV in front of the treadmill and I'm set.
I'm just going along the lines of "Oh there will be a while before games like TES VI, and I don't want to buy Skyrim again for PC, but I'd have to make room for two consoles in this already crammed cabinet just to enjoy it" and similar. Comparing the specs of the two systems, running a professionally built emulator would not be a lag-inducing constraint worthy of stopping all backwards compatibility, especially if it was just a post launch software update. Until I bought CE Anniversary a few weeks ago, my brother and I still played Halo 1 on the 360 for old time's sake. Grif, I've actually heard a few friends say they sold their PS2s to places like Gamestop the day/week/month leading up to the PS3 launch (expecting backwards compatability) and getting reasonable prices since it was still technically the current console generation, using the money towards the PS3 (or in some cases 360s), so it isn't out of the question to sell the 360 if they decide to include the feature. Also, I buy the majority of my games used and do not have anywhere near the budget Microsoft is currently asking to enjoy more than maybe three titles a year. I'm excited about the stronger specs and various home entertainment capabilities, but I might as well just use my sister's netflix and hulu plus accounts on my computer and hook it up to a tv until the X1 has a large enough resume to pull me into such an investment. Basically I'm seeing a unit that is primed for someone who has no reluctance pulling up a screen and entering their credit card for another $10/month subscription every time the opportunity arises. "It can do Netflix!" which costs extra, "It can do TV!" with existing HD cable subscription, "You can still play used games!" for an extra fee, "There's three people in this room!" for an extra fee, "Same old xbox live!" which will undoubtedly jump in price within three months of launch. When I heard about it, I was giddy and felt already sold. Then I read more of the details and started doubting whether I was going to even bother. In the end, I may just convert to the Steam Box if it becomes a strong competitor
