Unfortunately for some of us, we already have several gadgets in the home that do all of these things already. I have 5 devices that can play DVDs, 3 of them are consoles, despite the fact I don't watch DVDs all that often in the first place. So this is an added cost to the console that I will never get any use out of. I also have Netflix, hulu, vudu, YouTube, etc. available to stream on my 360, tablet, PC, smart phone, and smart TV. Another added cost to the console I don't need. Sports content? I don't have even a fraction of interest in any of it. Another added cost I don't need. The mandatory Kinect requirement? This was perfectly fine when Kinect was simply an additional peripheral, not necessary to play every game. Now, it is a shoe horned device that most considered mediocre to begin with. More additional costs bloating the console price that people shouldn't be forced to buy.

If they committed to the mantra they harped on about during the 360 about "options" for the consumer, then this would be a day one purchase. They could'be easily had a console in the magical $250 range without the bloatware and gimmicky gadgets and just stuck to making a superior gaming console that did just that. It saddens me that I just may have to abandon Halo in the next generation if the price is as high as has been speculated by the industry. It's hardly a justifiable entrance fee to play a handful of exclusives.

Do people still watch movies on BluRay?

    Thats so 2010...

Who doesn't just download them? Same as any tv show

I really don't see any thing here worth getting excited about, maybe the extra servers for xbl, but they can do that NOW if they wanted too!?

they had a chance to take the lead in next gen but my opinion they failed ... Race is still up for grabs, E3 will decide if I buy PS4 or XO

The point we are getting at is that the games can be put on blu-ray, so we don't have to install up to 4 discs. They can hold up to 50gb of data. Plus, I can't wait to finally be able to buy blu-rays. Sick of watching SD films.

What? It's better than a lot of PCs on the market... If you wanted the next generation of hardware, you probably should stick to high-end PC gaming though. It would be really hard to market a $2000 console....

well, $2,000 upfront, but then upgrades are about $180-ish every year or so, and that is if you have to have the newest of everything, otherwise, a good gaming PC build will stay current for several years

Something that can run incredibly high definition graphics at 60 frames a second and support twice the amount of content and players at one time than before. I expected a console that could run 4 player splitscreen flawlessly, and at the same time could be backwards compatible so I don't have to re-buy all my games for the new console. I expected improvements, I expected new tech. I didn't expect a bunch of useless features that I will never use that will only add to the price. This is a gaming console that's trying to be a home entertainment system. I don't want a home entertainment system, I want a game system.

Tell you what, make it play VHS and vinyl records and I'll buy 3 of them.

As of now I am unimpressed. I have the original white Xbox with a 150gb hard drive, no kinect compatability whatsoever. Im totally satisfied with keeping it. I don't even have cable, I just watch Netflix & Hulu.

Personally i am hoping that a new game is day-z the developers of the standalone game said they wanted to bring it to consoles if PC sales were good, and come on... It's day-z but better, the sales will go well. I think that day-z would port over well to the 360 with parties(especially if they make it so you can have more than 8 people in a party.) With 8gigs of RAM it should not be too hard for the next gen consoles to run it. Thoughts?
i would love to be able to play day-z on console with my friends.

People still complain about it because it is still worth complaining about, and will continue to be until the day all consoles and games require you to pay extra to play online. It isnt the money, it is the principle of holding back part of the content and require you to pay to access it, it is the reason why day one dlc is strongly spoken against.

I thought they presented quite a bit of tech. I mean, I thought the CoD: Ghosts was a pretty good demo of what could be pulled off. However, Xbox (nor Playstation) is really responsible for the advancing game engine technologies, as seen in the multi-platform Unreal Engine 4, Crytek Engine, and many other multi-platform technologies. Most of them are neutral. There is a lot more depth in terms of animations, dynamic poly-counts, more room for AI, among other things in a rather restricted game.

I don't know if you realize this but most of what "the console is capable of" is actually what the developers can innovate and it's a lot harder to tell the difference in poly-counts once it becomes efficient. It's the same thing with frames-per-second, which I thought they confirmed was a minimum of 60. Not all games are meant to be expansive open-world games or else we would see awesome games like Just Cause 2 which really push that genre forward and pioneered some of the technologies you're now seeing in CoD: Ghosts such as the dynamic poly rendering. Maybe it's just the programmer in me that's a bit disappointed with all of the yelling because I think what they're doing is really respectable. A similar feature could be implemented into the next Halo's Forge and might just solve the framerate issue that was a big deal.

The new blu-ray drive allows for a lot more content to be put on the disc, and I think people are underplaying the licensing of the technology. It was difficult to present a deep narrative in the previous xbox iteration, and it just makes it that much easier.

Everybody is saying that all of these features "add to the price" but why can't it be additional features that you get with the service? Think about the original Xbox Live for example... We didn't have all of this stuff, we had a simple VoiP, sometimes a clan system and matchmaking. Is there really a lot you can innovate on besides increasing the number of friends and what have you? The new tech is essentially the same as Playstation at this point and Sony plans to implement a subscription-based models not dissimilar to Microsoft's existing one.

TL;DR: The console developers don't make the games. The game developers make the games. This was a console reveal, not a game reveal. There's E3 for that focus. This was to show off the core of the Xbox and it's core capabilities. It is a shame if they don't include backwards-compatibility though.

Its like Pacmonster said it, if you wanted a Game system you should've bought an Ouya or something like it. You can't expect a company to put nothing in its console, and just make it a awesome good game player, though it is what we want. They are aiming to sell this console to the world, not only the gamers. This basically has become a home entertaining system.

If you look at both consoles.. What are the big differences now? Its not like the PS4 can run at 60 fps, while the Xbox one runs at 30? The processing, and the graphics.. All of that, are merely the same. Its like you expected a PC that runs at amazing settings, well then.. buy a gaming PC! And if you already have one, great. We are always looking at the imperfections, and not at what's good about it. (Now I expect someone of you to say : There is nothing good about it)

It's not that similar. In the case of Day 1 DLC, you physically have the information on the disc in your possession. Sure some information related to the online component of a game is held on disc, but you don't physically own the servers that you play on.
