What do you think about the small gaps between Forge pieces? Do you support them? Is a forger lazy or putting bad aesthetics into his/her maps if he/she does not slightly merge the pieces? Discuss.

It depends, but more often than not they're annoying to try and cover up.

I merge to remove them most of the time. I think seeing though them breaks you out of the immersion.

It definitely gets annoying having to merge together most blocks because of these gaps. I actually don't know why 343 even put them there.

It's quite a nuisance if you ask me.

i think that they are not cool unless they are taken into account and they just seem to tie in to the look of the map

I feel like I am in another reality entirely. I don't have a clue what you guys are talking about. I don't see "gaps" between blocks...

They are talking about the uneven edges of some of the forge pieces, such as the 5x5 Flat or the Wall Coliseum.

The holes are totally stupid and they're in nearly every piece. Leaving holes in your map just looks plain stupid and detracts from believability as well.

    *ahem*

Platform Large, Tunnel Short, Tunnel Long, every block piece (I'm looking at you 2x2, Tall), Antenna Small, and the list goes on. It's nonsense. I have no idea what CA was thinking when they decided to put chips in the pieces.. obviously that guy never forged a proper map..

Okay, I understand now, it has nothing to do with forge. it is the file format.

No. We mean the little notches along the bottom and top edges of certain pieces like the 5x5 flat block. These notches become rather noticeable holes when you line two of the pieces up together. I think the colosseum walls have them as well.

EDIT: Here's an illustration of what we mean.

Notice the gaps where the pieces meet.

We're talking about the gaps that you see when you put 2 pieces together.

For example if you use magnets to connect two 5x5 flats you'll see that there's a gap in between them.

They drive me crazy in forge, but I never actually notice them during gameplay.

    That's a given, hahaha.

3x3s are the way to go, though. They don't have those rounded edges, and are possibly have sleekest looking texture you could choose from.

Indeed. 3x3 Flats and Shorts are probably the cleanest and nicest looking block pieces.

One thing that annoys me more than the gaps is the textures. Especially the ones that aren't symmetric. It makes it much harder to make a map look good, which for some people might not be a problem, but for me it's a pain. I really wish they would have done something special or artistic with the pieces like in the CEA maps instead of what they gave us. The only reason some H4 maps look better than the ones in Reach is because of dynamic lighting

I get annoyed by it when shooting around corners on some maps in multiplayer such as Simplex when there is a 2x2 tall. Although you can clearly have your reticle on the other person your shot gets blocked by the invisible corner on the block. Grenade bounces can be off putting sometime too when the actual invisible floor is higher than the trimmed down detailing. Pieces should take up the entirety of the space they occupy. These gaps can lead to people thinking they can shoot through walls and floors when in reality there is no gap at all.

Yea I was going to add that too... many of the textures and sizes of the pieces are not symmetrical. Now, don't confuse that with having a differetn texture on each side. We're talkingabout if there is a notch on a piece on one sice, if you mate another piece up to it, it won't match. If you shift it up/down/left/right, then that part matches but another doesn't. Very aggrevating.

Also, magnets are connected to the wrong place and that just adds the the B.S.
