    TURF
    The Halo 2 Classic Returns

You may remember back in November, when the Forgotten Treasures III contest rolled around, that I submitted this map, and frankly, I was surprised how well received it was by members of the community. After the results were posted, I noticed several people saying they were surprised not to see Turf in the Top 3 (or even the Top 10, once those were posted). While it would have been incredible to have placed in the contest, my first version of Turf was not without its share of faults. I didn't have it set up to play Infinity Slayer, there were minor gaps here and there in the geometry that could occasionally be exploited, and perhaps most importantly, the spawns were baaaaad. The spawns were so heavily weighted by the med tent that literally half the respawns in each game were in that corner. (I believe it to be because that part of the map hung over the actual geometry of Ravine itself, and it may have an invisible respawn zone to keep you from spawning off the edge.)

All of that has been fixed in the final (?) release of this Halo 2 Great. No more messy spawns, it's set up for the right gametypes, and all the errors in the geometry have been fixed. And I've improved the aesthetics to bring it even closer to the original. Take a look!

I'm not sure what else I can really say about this map. It's been a labor of love, and I'm happy to have had the chance to bring this to all of you. I hope you guys enjoy!

(As soon as I have a chance to get back on XBL, I'll compile a list of everyone that helped this map come to fruition.)

Glad this finally got posted. I remember checking it out as a preview such a long time ago. I cant tell any differences as it was already super accurate to begin with.

Wow! Very impressive remake! It seems you've done a great job recreating the layout of the map while preserving the aesthetics/atmosphere that made the original so great!

This really looks good man. This was one of my favorite maps in Halo 2 and I always shrug off remakes of it because I figured it would never do justice. I would like to play it some time for sure because it actually looks pretty cool. Good job man, now if only you could make the garage door swing open and closed! :p

Yeah, I was always disappointed in all the remake attempts I came across. Turf deserved better, you know, and I'm glad people think that I was able to deliver on that :)

Yes! This map deserves the best, and your remake seems to deliver on all fronts. I can't say I've played on it yet, but from what I can see in forge it looks very true, and aesthetically pleasing to boot!

I still remember having my first match ever on Xbox Live here. BTB, 99 to 100. It was chaos! I loved every second of it, even though my team lost.

Downloaded, and recommended to my friends.

I remember running this map one night when we had 16 people while it was still in the testing phases. We split into 4 teams of 4. Oh God, the chaos! Even then, with so many people running around, no one team dominated the whole match.

I queued this up for download, so I haven't had a change to play it. But what about the towers that could fall down to make bridges? Did you try and replicate them at all?

I never even realized those were there until I was done with the map, but for Infinity Slayer (or any gametype with sprint) you can sprint and jump across the gaps where the poles were. When I get around to making the classic variant, I'll include those poles.
