Got bored today so I started reading the Rosario + Vampire Manga as I've heard it's quite good. I've not been disappointed so far, but the story seems to be taking a slightly different route from the anime as Mizore hasn't been introduced yet. :(

Keep in mind, manga are generally written first. So technically it is the anime that doesnt follow the manga, not the other way around.

Aside from Rooster Teeth's RWBY series, the only other anime that's coming out this year, that has my attention at least, is Ghost In The Shell: Arise. I saw a trailer for it on ANN and from what I've seen it actually looks pretty cool.

lolyes. Like he said, though, even the most excellent anime these days have some fanservice in them. That's just the way the cookie crumbles I suppose.

Also, where the hell was To-Love-Ru in that video? hahaha, I kept expecting it to pop up.

It's cool that he said ecchi as a genre is allowed fanservice because that's half the genre, but complaining that almost every series has fanservice is bullshit. I can name four anime from the winter season without fanservice in them as well as several others. By the way, I don't count bath scenes as fanservice unless it intentionally creates situations that could lead to ecchi. Bath scenes are just a part of life and why shouldn't they be included?

I noticed toward the end that the background music is the theme for HOTD. Also, fanservice is grossly invasive. Yes, there still are plenty of untouched anime, but the fact is that it is in a grand majority of stuff now. Thing is just like he said in the video, people are becomming numb to it and not realizing it.

Take a look at Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works, and its predecessor, Fate/Stay Night. Now the latter (the original) pretty much didn't have fanservice, or I simply didn't remember it. But UBW I definitely remember some Tohsaka upskirt shots. That isn't to say that one (or two) upskirt shot ruin the anime, they just draw away from what would otherwise have been a more engrossing story and plot.

Another example, fanservice in One Piece is fine, and even amusing. But changing a characters breast size... that is just wrong. Yes women grow, and breasts are generally something that does, but more than doubling a characters breast size is absurd (looking at you, Nami). This isn't even because I like small breasts, it breaks the immersion, if I meet someone with B cups and two years later they are H cups, something is wrong.

    Just my two cents.

I've lost a lot of interest in One Piece after the timeskip, due to that exact thing.

Don't get me wrong, the fights after the timeskip are actually pretty boss. Its just the changes in Nami and Franky's character designs were poorly done, everyone else is fine for the most part. In fact, Chopper and Usopp are actually kinda cool now.

Finished Katanagatari on the last day. I really liked the double length episodes as they helped keep what could have been a boring story going with lots of detail. An ending I never expected either so extra points for that, I don't like how they killed off a certain someone though and it was done in a very crappy way, not the way I expected. They also missed out a whole sword for some other story point which is a bit poopy considering the opponent was supposed to be be the best in japan with a very fragile sword.

    9/10 for Katanagatari.

Next up: Love Hina, which I'm already a few episodes into. I'm also going to watch Freezing again after dropping it.

Similar to angel beats? I can think of:
    Kamisama no Memochou
and (if you haven't yet seen it) The melancholy of haruhi suzumiya.

Kamisama is barely similar so take that suggestion with a grain of salt.

what's this one about? I didn't watch the special episodes of the first season, so should I do that before starting it?
The Aku no Hana anime just came out a couple of days ago. I was disappoint.

The manga is pretty good, though, if anybody likes the psychological genre.

Yes, the True route extras are a direct prequel to the new season.

Iv'e been watching the melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and it has been enjoyable although I guess it isn't a anime you are not supposed to take seriously.
pardon me if I'm wrong though... The storyline is all about Kyonn and the rest of the Brigade trying to keep Haruhi from getting board so that the world will not "end"? Despite not knowing what it is about I am finding it comedic and enjoyable enough.

ps. I am watching the 2006 version currently. Is there more of an actual story in the 2009 version?

yes, think the 2009 version as the full series, while the earlier one would be the equivalent of a first season.

Are you talking about "The disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya"?

should I watch it AFTER finishing the 2009 series?
