I want your opinions guys. Personally I find every single filter in Halo 4 ridiculously useless in competitive maps and even maps for fun. The only useful one would have been the purple filter from reach but even that was removed. What WOULD have been useful would be a filter that allows for that night time feel close to the purple filter but tweaked a bit. I hate the filters they all look unbalanced and you should be able to alter to what degree they filter as well. And the next gen is broken as well.

Anybody else feel they are useless?

Purple and next gen was a good combo in the last game; now we've lost purple and next gen was wrecked. Juicy + next gen also was kind of interesting, also doesn't work anymore. Basically, I don't even glance at the filters now. They had some potential to change the look and feel of maps, but I think for the most part they were always overdone, and in Halo 4 they're about useless, as you say.

No, they're not useless. At least not for the huge amount of people who like to take screenshots. I imagine there's a lot out there and I think that's what the filters were meant to cater to.

As far as maps go then yeah, only the purple filter was cool.

If people were that desperate for filters on their screenshots they could either photo shop them or use some other half cracked photo editing program. Hell even picnik.com was better. I just don't think CA would waste their time adding in a feature to allow people to edit filters on their screen shots when there were about 1,000,000,000 more important things to spend their time and energy on...

No the thing is 343i needs screenshots straight from the console to use at Waypoint. Also, the idea is to get people to spend time online with Halo 4 versus use their computers. It boosts activity in the game.

Oh right, like removing precision editing and zoom. That's basically the gist of H4's forge functionality compared to Reach. Except for magnets but those are useless if you ever need to merge anything like every single forger does.

you can't even see anything when you turn on some of those filters. it would be impossible to play.

I've seen I think Juicy used well a few times on Erosion maps, because it at least livens the colors up a bit. Other than on dreary erosion maps, I can't see using them really.

They missed the boat on this, as each filter should be a lot more subtle, and as Arcasius said, they should allow you to change settings on those Special Effects, changing to what degree it applies the filter. Also, a shape for the area to be filtered.

Same thing with the lights. They should have allowed you to change the brightness and distance of the glow. (they do let you change radius and shape, but they have no effect.)

Shame about the filters really. Though I'm still surprised by the fact on how people has STILL made decent screenshots with thes limitations. Still, Reach was better in terms of screenshots.

They're not useless. In some social maps, such as infection maps, filters give players a gloomy and creepy feeling while playing the gametype. Filters are also useful to those who take plenty of screenshots. However, in my opinion, filters have no place in competitive maps.

thats true but they could have been made A LOT better than what they are in my opinion. They all do too much altering of vision so you should be able to tweak how much it filters, I just think they worked a lot better in reach. True they can be used for screenshots but wouldnt you rather just use photoshop? :p
