I have to disagree with you erico, compared to tarantino's other movies, i was struck by how normal the plot line was. But it's still an abnormal movie itself. I had an older couple sitting behind me that reacted to every small event, but still enjoyed it thoroughly. But maybe that's just bias because Tarantino is my favorite director. Although he didn't utilize it in django, i love how he manipulates past and present time sequences. Res. Dogs was awesome at this. Anyways, i saw Argo, it was pretty good, but nothing really stuck out for me. Wasn't anything special, especially since it didn't exactly give the Canadians they actually deserved for the situation. But definitely a recommended watch, captivated me, kept me wanting to see more. I've been searching for a good mind **** lately, something like inception or memento, any suggestions?
Saw Dark Skies last Friday. The movie was really good and gripping, but it ended wayyyy to abruptly. I though I was only halfway through the movie then out of nowhere the credits rolled. I left the theater mad that they ended the movie at such a climactic point!
So I just watched Donnie Darko for the first time the other day. A long time ago back in highschool, an Ex said it was her favorite movie, and I just happened to see it in walmart and decided to pick it up. Its a really good movie, but one thing I don't really understand is the: Spoiler Whole time travely stuff at the end. You would think that the people that wanted to time travel would have to be in the object that is time traveling.. but for some reason everyone remembered? I just don't know.
I've heard Donnie Darko is a weird one, at least according to one of my friends. .. Never heard of Dark Skies.. I saw Sinister recently.. I kinda want to punch someone because of the jump scares. I despise jump scares, they suck. As for the super 8 clips: Spoiler Very, very effective imo. These scared the hell out of me, and it lasted long after the movie ended too. Really got inside my head with some of the stuff. Some of the clips were too much for me even. I had to look away, especially in the "sleepy time" clip... The ways people die in that movie would just.. suck, just sayin' As for the overall concept: Spoiler Super 8s were cool, the concept good, but the execution was super dumb. Some pagan god goes around killing families using their kids... could've been cooler if it weren't for the over dramatization of the kids.. they weren't even that creepy. The god or whatever is pretty gruesome, wish they featured more about him.
I struggled to understand too. I did some googling and it all made sense eventually. [br][/br]Edited by merge: Twelve Monkeys? The Prestige?
On the Donnie Darko topic, one of my favorite movies, in the top 3 if i had to make a list. Spoiler As for the time travel aspect of it. I don't really know, thats whats so great about the movie. My guess is, the director used parallel universes to tell the viewer that Donnie is an artifact from the tangent universe. If you haven't looked into the backstory of the movie, the primary universe is the actual universe while the tangent universe is a copy of this universe, however it is unstable. The tangent universe only becomes apparent when an artifact from it shows up in the primary universe. I've read that the jet engine was the artifact, but i disagree, seeing how in reality, Donnie never left his house that night and was killed by the engine. No matter if Donnie survived the date set by Frank (the breif time the tangent universe will be apparent), the engine still falls into Donnie's room. Donnie still dies. Thats why I say Donnie's consciousness is the artifact, he was a dull kid, from a dull town, until his consciousness (frank included) told him to do different things, i.e: the artifact. Looking at a chronological timeline, everyone in the movie knows Donnie died that night. He never lived, and frank never was imagined. But expanding on the possibility of him surviving is him trying his destiny, if you chose to believe in destiny. Anyways I'll look into those movies Elliot, i've heard alot of good things about Prestige anyways. I'm currently reading this book, but it was originally just meant to be a movie, I haven't watched it, but reading so far is immensely interesting for someone with an open mind. It's called "What the Bleep Do We Know?" Heres a youtube version, bit low quality though. what the *bleep* do we know? FULL MOVIE - YouTube
Oh, Looper is a fantastic mind-**** if you haven't seen it. Not as hardcore of a mind**** as inception or Donnie Darko, but still pretty amazing.
Yeah, do so, Twelve Monkeys stars Bruce Willis. It's based on a really creepy French film consisting of just still frames called La Jetee.
I need to see that! Yeah, he is amazing in it. Such a ****ed up character. Fight Club is my favourite movie. Did you guys know it didn't have a particularly good release?
Well, I haven't watched that video at all, atleast except for the first minute, but the book doesn't seem to include unsupported claims or pseudosciences at all. It hardly even claims anything, and talks about quantum physics, which isn't a pseudoscience. So far (haven't finished reading) it has gone on to say the struggle of the progression of science during the rule of the Catholic church, and how moving out of a comfort zone can possibly be beneficial. Talks about how we perceive things, and how others might be perceiving the same or different reality. Anyways, I'm gunna watch 12 monkeys tonight, and Prestige if i have time.. Edit: and Fight club is a phenomenal movie, watching it from beginning to start is the only way to get the full effect though. Even if you don't notice the whole mind ****ness, it's still a great watch
They were going to film Shutter Island at the abandoned insane asylum about a mile from my house but my city decided against it
12 Monkeys is strange, brad pitt's acting is pretty great That sucks a lot, Myt.. Just saw Warrior and liked it a lot more than I thought. Would recommend it
