I have made really good maps in halo reach, and they were all very popular with my friends. i have a pretty good one made right now on halo 4, how to i share this in this forum, get everyone to see it, or maybe even get it to matchmaking? that would be really cool

    Hey Ignited, welcome to Forgehub.

To share maps you've made on this forum, check out this template made by skisma

    http://www.forgehub.com/forum/halo-4-maps-gametypes/143491-map-posting-template.html

And then post your map in its corresponding Halo 4 Maps & Gametypes board.

As far "getting everyone to see it", that's a bit more complicated. There is no sure way to gain popularity. As you said, your other maps were popular among friends, well make lots of friends here. Get your map tested or played on by members here during events like TGIF (Thank God It's ForgeDay), TCOJ (The Circle of Jerks), or just post times when you will be playing your map in the customs board, here

If your map is well liked enough and well constructed then it could even get featured or become a Forge Hub Favorite giving it more recognition.

Finally, the "get it into matchmaking" part is the most difficult bit. We don't control that here or have any say. The best you can hope for is to join forge contests sponsored by 343i and Certain Affinity and hope your map is liked by them and the 343i appointed community cartographers.

    Fit these requirements:

    And post in this thread.

Make sure to follow that entire thread for you to be considered. But to make sure you have a solid map, you can also party up with other forge hubbers or friends, and test the map. Make sure it runs good, and theres no over or under powered locations.

Post the map here to get good critique aswell, but if you haven't tested yet, I recommend posting it as a thread in "Halo 4 Forge Discussion" with the prefix Map Preview. People can critique it, and this lets you make changes before releasing a final version. If you have a USB flash drive, you can extract screenshots (since online fileshare is nonexistent as of now) by using a website that one of the members here made. There is also a program you can download somewhere around this forum that can do it aswell.

You'll want to post screenshots to attract people to actually taking a look at your map.

    Good luck!

Can someone elaborate on this please? I'm very interested in getting screenshots uploaded without taking a picture of my TV with my phone.

    Example A

    Example B

Although you'll have to download horizon to use either one. (If you're on a mac, sorry, im in the same situation, i believe you can use modio on a mac if you work around some obstacles.)

Basically what your doing is your saving the shots to your usb, transferring it to your computer via horizon, and either one of these extractors can take the halo 4 screenshot files and translate them into something your computer can understand, and therefore able upload to a filesharing site.

One great thing to do is submit your map to the testers guild. There your map will go through a process of rigorous testing to work out any kinks, by the time it comes out of there, with the proper care you should have a well rounded map, hope to see ya 'round

The most foolproof way to get your map noticed, is to make a high quality map. I'm talking a professional quality map that you feel would be worthy of being in a map lineup on a game.

The other way, is to get yourself a reputation on Forgehub. Test peoples' maps, give substantial feedback, and be a generally friendly person.

Important tip: You need to be honest with yourself. First, ask yourself which friends you can trust to give honest feedback (not "this map's great!"). Second, you need to accept that you will make mistakes, and that you need to learn from them. You will not start out creating classics, but if you have patience and determination; you will keep improving.

And you need to ask yourself which friends you can trust to give you adequate feedback?

Most forgers don't know the first thing about forging a decent map. Forgers can benefit most from quality players who know how to play the game. When it came to forging invasion, I learned nearly everything about making an invasion map from the HWM who were exceptional invasion players.

I could post a tutorial on how to manually extract screenshots.
That would work on any OS, but it's going to be quite hard to extract screenshots directly from the xbox save file as it's just... so damn big.

Are you disputing the statement that you need to recognize which people give you honest feedback. People who pat your back will not help you improve.

"Most forgers don't know the first thing about forging a decent map". Like I said; you need to recognize which people you can trust to give honest feedback. Generally speaking, forgers will usually give more substantial feedback. But it depends who you associate yourself with.

Building a good reputation with several communities is a big help to getting things noticed. Helping others out and not just pestering others to come test your map is a great way of doing this. As others have mentioned, you have to take a step back and be honest with yourself. Ask questions of your map. Try and break it or see if you can make things look better visually with a few minor tweaks. The process of making a map isn't just dumping a load of blocks, weapons and spawns on a blank canvas, as some others around here will tell you, it can take a few months to get a map to a position where you are completely happy with it. Also, take note of any and all criticisms that people give you, no matter how small, but do not let people run you over with drastic changes unless the map has significant and highly visible problems.

Or if their suggestions will help transform a map that's merely good into one that's truly great.

I had preceded my comments with "And..." so I don't see how you can say I was disputing anything...

I have come to realize most forgers are not the ones I would ask... That is me...

I was more than happy to associate with THC, but they proved to be the roughest neighborhood around... They are however a group I think know what they are talking about more than most.
