Hawking wasn't in a lot of my books, if any if I recall correctly. He's quite overrated imo but at least it's interesting. Pythagoras was awesome though.
i've read about hawking in a book or two, i just stated him because i was watching a science channel show that featured him, it was actually pretty interesting, possibility of life on other planets in other solar systems and galaxy, how we would travel there, and explaining how traveling back in time is impossible, however traveling foward is possible
So I had to give a presentation in class today, and I managed to work in David Thorne's "The ducks in the bathroom are not mine." Hilarity ensued.
Anyone else tried out Aliens: Colonial Marines? I got the collectors edition and I'm about to go return it. I haven't returned a game in years.
Wasn't there a demo for that a long time ago? I think I played that, and I didn't enjoy it. I know what you mean about returning games, I just never do it except when a game really disappoints me.
Not sure if there was a demo but it's been in development for a loooong time, and it shows. The game, from the 4-5 hours of it I played was very dated.
Dated in a lot of ways. Visually, at least on the 360 version, it's a huge disappointment. Lighting is murky in parts where there's no call for it. Character models and textures were also subpar. It sounds and looks like Aliens, which is both good and bad. Nice that they were able to capture a lot of the movie; it did seem apparent they'd made an effort so these set pieces seemed as authentic to the movie as possible. Those sound effects were great for 1986 and still work great when watching it today but they just sound cheap in a 2013 AAA Game. AI sucks as, even on Ultimate Badass difficulty, it wasn't very challenging. Aliens throw themselves at your cross-hairs (and go down way too easily) and the Weyland Yutani soldiers just bob their heads in and out of cover. I got a little shy of halfway through the campaign and played a dozen or so matches online over all 4 modes. Playing as a marine was fun but it's no more unique than any other military shooter. And playing as a Xenomorph was awkward and frustrating. They weren't particulary easy to control, scaling walls and ceilings wasn't very intuitive and they lacked any ranged attacks apart from one or two moves in a certain class. Also, I felt tremendously underpowered compared to the marines which really shouldn't be the case. Aliens, in both campaign and multiplayer, could go down with a single shotgun blast and if the marines were working together, you stood no chance. Even when Aliens worked together as a team, it's a struggle to be very effective. At least I have Dead Space.
