This will be brief as im using my phone.
The Ur Didact is the original and the Bornstellar is the one with the Didacts imprint.

The master builder supposedly killed the Ur Didact during Halo:primordium however the teaser for Halo:Silentium reveals the Ur Didact survived.

So the true Identity of the Halo 4 Didacts is still uncertain. Based on the number of fingers on his hand, there is reason to believe that the Didact in the H4 terminals could very well be both Didacts, as apparently the number of digits on his hands change from 6 to 5. Im yet to confirm this though.

But until Silentium or Halo 5 comes out it will probably remain unclear. The Halo 4 Didact is likely to be the original in my opinion, as he had a true hate for humans. If anything of Bornstellar remains, it would probably show more mercy to humans. One of the Didacts supposedly fired the Halo rings that ended the Forerunner flood war, and the other Didact was locked up safely in Requiem.

Until Silentium is out I refuse to accept which Didact we see in Halo 4 as it seems to me that 343 wanted this to remain a mystery to us for now.

Agreed. But now I've taken the time to read the books, specifically the forerunner saga, I'm really starting to enjoy how complex it has become.

They aren't helping themselves either. There is still alot to be explained ever since we looked into the time of the forerunners in detail, for example, The fate/location of the librarian, the even ancient-er advanced 'Immortal' species known as the precursors (Which seem to have replaced forerunners in the aspect of mystery), the precursor gravemind known as the Primordial, the destruction of the 5 of the original 12 Halos that weren't rebuilt unlike the one in H3, the other shield installations and their contents (More forerunners?), the true origin and motive of the flood, and its relation to the precursors. and probably much more.

I feel that the Kilo five trilogy and H4's Spartan ops will conclude most of our covenant interaction. With Elites in civil war and Jul Mdama and his army getting pounded on requiem by infinity, what's left of the covenant seems pretty small and insignificant, with the Human alliances with some of the covies and the obtaining of forerunner tech... Quite frankly the covies don't stand a chance. And if it all goes to pot the UNSC still have the modified Sanghieili wheat/grain they made on Onyx and tested on Mdama when he was held captive there. They could wipe out sanghelios in probably no less than a year or two if it came to it, so they hardly seem like a powerful enemy anymore, especially after the Didacts attack on earth. I'm guessing Halo 5 and 6 will look more to the forerunners and hopefully the return of the flood too. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some more mentions of precursors, especially if we look back into the flood storyline, which seems sortof likely considering the purpose of both the Halos and the Composer and its uses were for the destruction of the flood.

Still using my not-so-smartphone so i apologise for poor spelling and grammar.

Easily accessible is not mutually exclusive from complex.

In halo 1,2,3,Reach the basic concept was simple that anyone could grasp "aliens invading/Virus flood infection/etc" but it was always complex The deeper you went the more complex halo got.
But In halo 4 the campaign forces a pile of bricks on you specially for a new player. (Even I was like wait wtf did happen exactly, aside from cut scenes gameplay didn't communicate anything that was going on: kill generic enemy's press button, IMO games should express as much of the story though GAMEplay rather then cut scenes because it is a game after all.)

Hopefully Halo:5,6 (and 7,8,9 if 5 and 6 don't fail so much Halo dies) that there story is easily accessible and complex.

Terminal Videos should have been in-game all along, halfway through the game when you meet the librarian as one whole clip.
Once I watched the terminal vids more or less everything made sense.

I love the books and the current direction they are taking the story right now. But it was quite poorly explained in H4, even after reading Cryptum and Primordium (Gonna have to wait for Silentium), Halo 4 still didn't add up. It was the terminal vids that cleared it all up for me.

I loved it but it could've been better.

Almost guaranteed to be on the next-gen Xbox considering an announcement is most likely to be made within the next few months as to the console.

Other than that, all I see in this thread is speculation and rumour, nothing solid at all.

My speculations: Diadact returns w/ cortana trapped, Chief finds out and chases, end. H6 will be the Chief finding corty and ****ing her brains out after an over-hyped rescue and another QTE battle with the "all-powerful" Diadact, who gained more power by falling through slipspace thingymajig.

QTE's suck, I thought Halo didn't do them...

    Agreed.

Your prediction, minus the brainfucking, seems pretty plausible.

In short: Cortana is too important to the series to die, without her there'd be practically no in-game dialogue.
While the Didact isn't as important, he seems to be in the spotlight in H4 an awful lot. Can't imagine him being killed off so early on in the trilogy. Especially with another book focusing on him coming out in 2 months and the constant mention of him in Sp-Ops.

So we lost Cortana, and we're probably gonna have wierd hallucinations for a while, then find a message from her, and then proceed to follow the message to rescue her and destroy something/someone in the process.

Sounds an awful lot like Halo 3 to me.

Except for the fact that Halsey is playing a major role finally and Cortana is an off spring of her mind so in a sense Halsey would be an great substitute for Cortana if she did really die off from Rampancy.

To be honest i think A. It was the original Didact, not Bornstellar imprinted Didact.

    B. he ain't dead, probably just digitized like the Promethean humans.

    C. Cheif is just upgrading armor thats all like h2 like h3 (don't know where he got snazzy armor being in cryo so long for 4 but w/e)

    D. The Primordium (from my knowledge) is alive an well on Installation 00 after the forerunners tried to blow it up when they figured out (with the help of Bornstellar and his humanoid companions) that the "green ai" was doing w/e it wanted and not listening to the Master Builder, so he should make an appearance soon.

    E. If the the Composer is destroyed then the Didacts next step would be to use the Halo array to wipe humanity away (similar to how the Precursor wanted to remove the Forerunner from the mantel and let humans run it so they hijacked a halo (way after the war of extinction the forerunner ran on them) and attempted to do it.

    F. Covies all in disarray (jackals living with colonists trading, unogy doing mechanic work Oni having there own set of Engineers (which also explains the supernatural speed of building Infinity) and the Elites in civil war with Arbiter leading the good faction. So count them out as a major threat more like nuisance ai like they were in h4.

One last thing there are a ton of un explored shield worlds like the on your on in h4 so expect more of them to pop up as well im sure the Librarian is alive and well with Bornstellar or his Digitized version and the librarian will be curcial in helping stop the didact i mean she is his wife after all.

Play the latest Spartan Ops episode. Alot changed since then regarding Halsey, not going to spoil it though. Cortana is a big role and Chiefs not gonna be able to shrug it off like nothing. She'll have some relevance in the next games. Remember, 343GS is an AI of a Human, yet due to Forerunner creation, has lived for thousands of years with only minor rampancy. If Cortana got access to this data (Via Didact, Librarian, Composer, Domain) then she could very well be alive.

I Agree, I think it is the original Ur Didact also. I also think he is still alive but during the terminals the Didact reveals the composer will NOT work on him after his failed mutation. So he probably will not become digitalized. I doubt that Pulse Grenade was enough to kill him and he clearly fell into a slipspace rupture afterward.

I doubt it, In Primordium there is a detailed explanation of the Didact killing the Primordial. He disintegrates it, accompanied by Chakas. I'm pretty certain it's dead. Unless you know something that I don't but that's how I remember it.

Alot of the stuff you said was what I mentioned in my post beforehand, If you're up to date with Spartan Ops you'll know that the Librarian has a big part in it apparently, aswell as the end of Primordium.

I doubt he would use the Halo for that purpose. It would kill all sentient life within range, not JUST Humans, and they're so spread out through the Galaxy now, unless he wiped the entire galaxy clean there's no way to be rid of them all. And I don't know where you read the bit about the Precursor hijacking a Halo, but it's news to me.

There are probably all sorts of secrets hidden on the other installations, I imagine part of the reason for his use of the composer on earth wasn't just to destroy humanity, but probably add to his army. With every person composed he can make a Promethean Knight. If he uses the Halo he gains nothing. There are other, more interesting artifacts than the composer, that will probably come into play in the next installments.

That part about the Precursor i wrote was in regards to the Primordium and the big green ai being on the installation (i assume 00) before it shed its broken parts to escape. No im out of touch on spartan ops been way to busy working but i'll play through to get what your saying.

O and i didn't know that Bornstellar killed him i read the first 2 forerunner books but not the 3rd unless there was a part after when Bornstellar met up with the Librarian on one of the arks? Regardless i'll either A. re read the 2 i have or go buy the 3rd.

I know there are a ton of fancy awesome sauce toys that the Didact can use to kill humanity (and i didn't think of the whole using humans to make his personal Promethean army) And yes there is always that, cortana could go all 343 gs and get the ability to not go rampant the only reason he did was being alone for oh a few eons lol.

Re-read Primordium, the second book, or atleast the last few chapters.

Mendicant Bias (The Green AI) took control of the Halo, you're right there I think.
However when Bornstellar arrives at the end and meets with Chakas, Born has control of the Halo, and he orders either his AI or Bias to save all life aboard the Halo, including flood.

This was to make sure that the Primordial would survive long enough for Didact to find it and question it. Which he does toward the end, they have a pretty interesting chat before Didact kills it. Librarian is not present at the time. It's just the Didact and Chakas.

When did halo grow this much depth?

I was on par with pretty much the whole story until Halo 3

Now I'm completely lost, seems that the story is progressing way faster than the pace from CE-2-3

Yeah sometime in the planning phase for H4 they started 2 more book trilogys. I read the kilo five trilogy, that continues from Ghosts of Onyx first which was good put I kept putting off the forerunner ones cause it seemed way too deep and complex but in the end I manned up and read them. Glad I did though.

If you took the time to read the terminals in Halo 3 it relates to the forerunner books and The Didact / Librarian. But it's all very vague.

He wrote cole protocol didn't he?
That's my favorite Halo book to date.

I like Greg Bear's writing style, but he doesn't keep me on edge as much as some of the previous books did.

Well.. I think the story of Halo 4 isn't quite completed yet, is it?
The new episodes of Spartan Ops are getting more intense.. I wish I could tell some things about it, but thats spoiling.. So I really suggest you guys watch the new episodes, and maybe play them.

First Spartan Ops wasn't really involved with the main story, though now it is beginning to be. The new episodes are also alot better, I do really suggest to play and watch them, otherwise you won't even get what im talking about.
I think we still have an big suprise waiting, in Halo 4,s story.

Hmm, reading through some of this really doesn't make much sense to me.
I've read all the books as well as the two new Forerunner ones, and to me, the original Didact was pronounced dead when kept captive.

However, what I found difficult to believe in Halo 4 was that the Didact had genuine hate for the Humans, which Bornstellar did not have. He saw humans as a lesser race, but knew he needed their assistance and treated them as his pets. He still grew a fondness for them, and certainly wouldn't try to enslave their entire species as prometheans.

The Didact in Halo 4 cannot have been digitised. The composer only digitises the DNA it is programmed to digitise, which is why plantlife, birds, animals etc... are not digitised at the same time the composer is fired collectively at Earth. If he falls in the slipspace rupture then he's either going to be crushed on slipspace entry, or he'll be forever suspended in slipspace as he has no method of manipulating his way out of slipspace (Unless Forerunners were able to enter slipspace themselves and travel on a galactic scale?)

Anyway, you're all over analysing that chief removes his armour at the end of Halo 4.
At the end of Halo CE, he removed his helmet... did you all think "OMG CHIEF HAS RETIRED, NO MORE HALO GAMES!"? I didn't think so. He's simply removed his armour. While John has always felt far more vulnerable without his armour, and unlike most of the spartans prefers to keep his armour on at all times as it's more so a second skin to him, he still has to change it / repair it and even dress down into his full dress uniform for ceremonial purposes.
