Sounds like someone is jealous of my devilish good looks! I've been described as a Fight Club era Brad Pitt. Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. if I looked like snuffleupagus with elephantitis...
I still has no interwebs I'm working on getting it set up but waiting on verizon to get their head out of their ass.
We're still kicking off, which means a lot of people might not notice yet that we're back in business again. When talking about regular sign ups, I expect about 3 at max on ForgeHub but quite some more on HaloCustoms.com. Don't worry though, in the end I manage to get full lobbies 99% of the time due to friends joining etc.
Hey guys, I'm George. Missed my chance at an introduction thread, so I'll just try to say a few things here. I'm still pretty fresh, almost 16 years old, and have been playing halo for well over half my life. My dad got the original xbox a few years after it's release, and let me choose one game; I think you all know where this is heading. I was hooked off the start, and loved the series, so hooked that I didn't get the 360 until they released Halo 3. I knew about forghub since mid '08, but didn't bother to join because I didn't see myself to be worthy enough. I was an avid forger in Halo 3, and made tons of maps. One of which I recently posted in the Halo 3 discussion. It wasn't until most of my friends told me to join this site (DIEabolical D, and others (sorry, I honestly can't remember)) that I finally gave in and joined. I posted My first map which got some good traction on the site, and I was astonished when I was featured on my second day being here. I hope to keep on producing maps for you guys, because that's what I do best. Thanks.
Wow. The things you learn about people. Thank you Fenix for serving our country, your sacrifice allows thousands to live a normal life here in the states. And Panda. You're doing the right thing. My dad has had problems with alcohol, and it caused my family a lot of stress for awhile. Never abusive, but he had a habit of drinking a six pack, and then going to pick me up from soccer practice, or my sister from cheerleading practice. He's recovering now, and doesn't drink anymore, but it's still a constant battle. I wish I could tell you otherwise, but you'll be a recovering alcoholic for the rest of your life. The best you can do is stay strong, and understand that if a relapse does happen, you're not a bad person for it, just flawed. Keep your head up and keep at it. And that's enough of the heavy stuff... My name is Joseph, but only my family calls me that. Everyone else calls me Joe. I'm 28 and I live in Colorado, but I grew up in Virginia. I moved out here because I wasn't happy with where my life was going, I felt stuck in life, like I was treading water. I needed a change of scenery, and to start over in a new place. Half of my friends had already moved away from my hometown and found success on their own, the other half had no desire to do so, even though they were having similar feelings as me. So mow I'm a manager at a mom and pop restaurant, 2nd in command in all but name. I love to cook, and I love my job. I decided when I was 16 that I didn't want to be stuck in a cubicle for 8 hours a day, and that was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's also played a big part in shaping who I am. I never went to college, because I realized that with my chosen career path I didn't need to, and I would be wasting my money. So now I've got 12 years of industry experience, and a head start on all my peers who went to school for business, accounting, law, etc, and then couldn't find jobs in their fields when the economy crashed. Now they work for me. I have no regrets. I also enjoy snowboarding, and dabble in art from time to time. I draw, paint, write, and play music. I've been in a few bands, but never anything serious. Like I said, these are hobbies, and while I enjoy them, my true passion is in my career. I love Hockey and Baseball, and sports in general. Living in a city with an NHL, MLB, NFL, NBA, and MLS team is fantastic. I've got sports to watch year round, sometimes more than one. Ever been to a baseball game during the day, then a Hockey match that night? It's fantastic. I messed around in Forge in Halo 3, but I never had XBL until after Reach came out, so that's when I really got into it. I made a few quality maps for reach, at least according to my friends. But by the time I got really good it was close to the end of Reach's life, so I never bothered to go anywhere with it. Halo 4, despite it's flaws, gives me a real oppurtunity to get noticed. I don't want a job with Bungie, CA, or 343, but I think having a map in matchmaking would be pretty ok. I hope you guys don't mind me posting here as well. I've been wanting to join a TCOJ lobby forever, but Tuesdays are the only night that my girlfriend and I both have off work, so I usually spend them with her. I'll make it eventually, and if not, I'm sure I'll see everyone elsewhere.
Sorry I didn't recap last week, but here goes: Jade - This plays well and I can't think of any major complaints. I will say I feel that a little too much of the action takes place in the middle open area and I think adding one more covered route on the "inside" (?) of the map might promote some different movement. I can show you in forge if you like since I can't really explain the area I mean very well. Chimera - This was very vertical and had some cool object use, although it also had some awkward connections (rocks as bridges, some areas that didn't connect as well, etc.). The two towers on top didn't seem to promote movement once you got up there and thus interaction between top and bottom levels was a little random. The rockets may have been a little hard to see on the tin cups, since I saw people walk by them and I got to pick them up twice. I would tinker with the map a bit but it definitely had some good ideas. Black Briar Flood - cool concept, especially with the moving warthogs. The ground was a little bumpy here and there and some of the rooms felt a little cramped, possible due to the use of overlapping prefab buildings. LCG Interchange - This had a great theme and layout and played well on both gametypes. I thought the streets could use some random little cover as long as it doesn't impede vehicle flow. I think a few more vehicles (or just lesser spawn times) would make it a little more chaotic in a good way. Some of the side paths were a little cramped or bumpy but overall really enjoyed this one. Bleached - This map looked and played really well. It kind of baffles me because during the game I felt like the layout was really intuitive and easy to navigate, yet now when I try to envision it I can't grasp the layout in retrospect. I did have one bad spawn but it was noteworthy: a guy was right on top of me when I spawned right near my own flag as he was about to grab it. I'm not sure if there just weren't enough other spawning options, or maybe the positioning of other players really made that the best option. I saw little pieces of white lodge here and there but this played completely different and I look forward to playing on it again. Octave - I actually thought this played well even with 10 players, since I saw more of the underside of the map this time. Some of the cover pieces seemed a little conspicuously placed (if that makes sense, they stood out, struts, etc.) but they were very functional cover, with jumps, etc. Each level seems well balanced though, the top is vulnerable enough that the gameplay wasn't just a rush to the top (of course it was koth so who knows) Poo Poo Face - Excellent layout, very fun. I especially liked the jumps you had to do to get between certain upper areas similar to complex. I didn't even see the whole thing since I was (for once!) dominating top mid a lot but maybe that also means you need to make the lower/outer areas more enticing? I'm not sure about that yet though; I need(!) to play it more. Windswept - Seemed like the minor alterations worked for the better. I've been getting mixed messages about certain parts of the map that I actually really like, so I might just keep it like it is and move on to other gametypes. Quasar - I thought this played ok but as people mentioned the flow/connections weren't as great. I think I might keep the aesthetic/object theme but try a rebuild with better connections. Hoarding action - pretty cool but obscenely far apart. Even with the sniper it was a little hard to make a stable shot at that distance without suddenly being assassinated. I would either make the two sides close enough to be dmr-able or at least have more ways across than that one teleporter. Also, I would try to make the levels more radically different so its easy to tell which level you're on. I think that's all I played but let me know if you know I missed your map.
Hey guys, nice to finally learn more about your extra-forging (read: secondary) existences. My name is Tim and I'm in my mid-twenties, married and pursuing a social science phd. My wife is in med school and literally studies 24/7 so that's why I am either quiet or mic-less half the time these days. I have been playing halo since CE but I only really became utterly obsessed in college for halo 3 since a lot of my suite mates and hall mates played (a recipe for disaster for my non-halo-playing roommate). I only really tried forging seriously when Sandbox came out for h3 although I did go back and discover Foundry afterwards. Despite the many issues I am really glad that forge has come this far and really appreciate it as a creative outlet. On that front I share the same story with many forgers: I used to be into art, legos, etc. Growing up I wanted to be an architect but actually got dissuaded with the tediousness of the math/computing technical side, and eventually fell in love with philosophy and the social sciences. Of course I still have a creative urge beyond the written word, so here I am forging for hours a day/night, usually at the expense of my sleep. To echo some earlier conversations, after a lifetime of being skinny and out of shape I have recently taken an interest in the gym and have also started an MMA class that is a lot of fun. I'm wondering why I never got the courage to do martial arts until now but it's definitely a confidence boost and a good workout. Other tidbits about me: I have two cats, and I love (slowly and casually) learning foreign languages. And... that's about all I can think of for now.
Damn man, this thread is interesting. I took the time to read 'em all, and it's making me really wish I could free up Tuesday nights again... There seems to be a fairly consistent art or construction theme flowing through people here. I suppose that comes with forging simply because creating people...create stuff. Yeah.
I've been saving my best work yet just exclusively for you guys, plus I want to test it out first. No eyes have been laid upon it yet. It's an arena style map inspired from maps of Quake 3 and supports 4v4 CTF. It may also very well support 2v2v2v2 CTF, we'll see. Can't wait to test it out with you guys!
That looks awesome!! [br][/br]Edited by merge: P.s. This might sound stupid, but how do you set up one flag? I need help.
Basically you set it up exactly like two flag, but on the attackers' side, you take their flag stand and raise the top of the cylinder some (not sure how much is required, a unit or two maybe); then sink it down into the ground by the same amount. So ultimately they can cap a flag there, but enemies can't pick up that same flag. Then you put a dead flag stand (specific to the CTF game type, but just tagged CTF instead of flag return) on the ground in that spot to give them a visual indicator. Just test it afterward with a second player (it takes two teams to spawn both flags) and make sure the defenders can't pick up the attackers' flag. And of course it means not putting your flag stand on a platform with a room underneath it, or supporting 2-flag on the same map, unless you save two variants of it.
