Congratulations on the matchmaking, Paints. The map looks incredible and I am going to play some of that playlist on Matchmaking just so I can find Scythe. I may be back with some feedback later.
Got to try this out on the Forge playlist last night. My friends and I really like it, and we only got to play it on SWAT. Very nicely done--aesthetically and in every other way. Congrats for having your map selected for matchmaking!
Played this in MM last night. First time seeing the map, got JIPed into randoms getting stomped by a full party. SWAT is a brutal gametype on this. Plays well in that the sight-lines pretty well force you to keep moving, so it has a very consistent flow, but I think SWAT is a bit much. Of course, that could be biased thanks to my confluence of negative factors. Beautiful map though - wish I could have spent less time respawning so I could enjoy it lol
^I agree about SWAT not being a good fit for this map. SWAT has never worked well with maps with teleports. Your team can be holding down a side when someone pops through and gets an extermination in a few seconds. SWAT centers around controlling doors and hallways and pushing and pulling at key times but the teleports allow for this to be completely bypassed. If those are removed for SWAT, I can see this map working very nicely in the multiplayer rotation.
Hulk, Forgers that want their maps submitted to 343i for MM consideration work through community cartographers. There are about a dozen of them. You can find them from the waypoint web site. Go to waypoint web site Click "members" link on the right Select ROLE: Community Cartographers Hit SEARCH Keep in mind that there are now two pages, and when you hit NEXT it may be a bit goofy. If you get a non filtered list, select the ROLE again and hit SEARCH, and it should come up with page 2. Some of the CCs are new. The older ones tend to have communities that are geared to helping forgers get their maps into MM. The best one is Blueprint, which was setup by Homeboyd903 and is SPECIFICALLY promoted for the purpose of helping us get our maps into MM. It is also a forum where a number of cartographers frequent, so you tend to get more exposure to them. But there are other places. I believe Noky is the Forgehub representative from the CC. The CC look for maps from everywhere. Of course they cannot know where everywhere is, so from time to time someone may point them to a map that they like that someone else made (I have done this on a couple of occasions). If you have any other questions about this process you can ask Noky or one of the CCs, or send me a PM and I will try to answer your questions as well. Be aware however, the CCs are under a gag order by 343i not to tell us what decisions are made behind the scenes and especially talk about WHY. You might want to think of the CCs as a black hole. The only time they ask you to fix something on your map is if it is a serious candidate for MM and 343i or the CC want it tweeked. This gag has been a source of frustrations for many forgers. But a lot of them try to give you as much info as they can.
Regarding all of the comments with spawn killing, personal ordinance and team swat being too hectic: It's a 2v2 design. I'm surprised at the functionability of a 4v4 on here though. You should spawn fairly safely but don't be surprised if you're engaged in a firefight shortly after respawning. I really want them to put this in Team Doubles. That's what I intended it to be for. About submitting maps to 343: There's multiple many ways to do it. I did in fact submit it to Blueprint. But when I first got the message from Tashi and Bravo, they said they picked it straight off of Forge Hub. So my advice: You're NOT gunna get a map in matchmaking by WANTING a map in matchmaking. I put about 2 years into that map design. This lead me to build a map that I constantly wanted to improve on. Not just, "Oh the matchmaking deadline is coming up, spam it to every CC that I find and hope that the map is ready." Even after two years, there's still a certain awkward flow to the map that bothers me. I'm working on a polished version that I think plays much better. But even then, no map is ever perfect. You can always find ways of improving it. If you ask a community cartographer how to submit a map, some of them tell you just join a community and grow, and I think that's the best way to do it. Make them want to come looking for your maps. Once your maps are getting to the point of being ready for MM, they will notice. They ARE watching. EDIT: You guys should check out the Reach Thread, it's cool to see the progress. If you want, try playing the Reach version of the map. It's interesting to see it in a different atmosphere. www.forgehub.com/forum/reach-forge-discussion/141448-scythe.html
I took at a look at this and my first thought was wow this looks like ass. But then I remembered that majority of Reach maps looked like that, lol. I don't mean to insult you but that was just my first thought. It looks and plays great now. Glad to see this in MM!
That's what I meant. It's cool to look back and see how it's improved. It looks so basic in Reach. Lol.
THC vid on forge test maps, Scythe at 0:58. Forge Playlist Maps and Tips! - YouTube High praise, buddy
I loaded up MM to see if I could get this to play. did about 5 or 6 and it didn't show up... will have to keep trying to find it. (I have it DL'd but haven't gotten it in MM test lobby just yet)
Yeah paints posted this on the front page of the thread a few days ago. Some of those maps should not of made it in my opinion.
Damn. Wish I jumped on the bandwagon and made you a bootiful video. Well, too busy, whatever. Really like the map, grats on getting it into MM. Haven't played it yet, been so darned busy
I just played this a few times in matchmaking yesterday. it's definitely a well-designed and enjoyable, albeit somewhat generic map to play. Your maps have been on a steady path of improvement ever since that Uncaged spinoff I tested a year or so ago. Keep it up, you've got some pretty awesome maps under your belt now. Good work Paints, sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you're back before too long.
