I have a complaint about that... how come every state gets a university with their state's abbreviation but the University of South Carolina has to share one with Southern California? Idk... Honestly I don't get why people love amateur sports so much. I mean, the only reason I can see for supporting a college program is if you live in the town the school is in, or you went to that school
College sports are often more exciting than professional because of the emotions involved. A college player on average has low chances of making football a career, and thus is playing for the love of the game and the pride of the school rather than the pride of the paycheck.

NFL and NBA have a lot more celebrity personas. Plus it depends on the NHL player; I don't think Ovechkin and such are playing for passion
I'm no expert but I think college coaches are more likely to take risks than NFL coaches so that can also make for better games.
