    Rat Race Remake From Halo:CE. Updated Weapons and Spawns. Supports all gametypes.
    Built by Vincent Torre.

    To Download: Start -> File browser -> Map variants -> Fileshare search -> "Vincent Torre"

    Recommended: CTF, Infinity Slayer, Dominion, Extraction, Grifball, Flood, Regicide
    Supports 2-10 players. Up to 8 Teams.

    Description:
    Rat Race is a map that is very nostalgic to me, and as such I've decided yet again to bring it back into Halo.

    I got measurements during the Halo 3 era, but didn't build a version till Halo: Reach. Eventually it made it into the Team Classics Playlist. I hopefully improved upon that one. Especially with a major overhaul of the cave area.

    I did a few modifications to the weapons (changing them to Ordnance Drop instead). I also added in more than 2 teams of spawns, and made it compatible with all Halo 4 default gametypes.

    If that's not good enough for you there's also a Classic version which has all original spawn locations and weapons.

    I gotta say, I really like how smooth the map is, it looks like it would play great. I also like the extraction container objects around the teleporters, they add color well. Can't say I really have suggestions, looks great.

    There a couple of minor issues I have with this. Overall it looks great but there are a few things that get me. First off you should lower the ceiling at cave entry so that those 1x4 blocks sink into the ceiling, currently it just looks a little (for lack of a better word), unpolished. I don't entirely agree with the coliseum window there either, a wall would probably look better. they are approapriate on the walls in the areas that they feature, but as the roof its a bit much. The essence of Rat Race is an enclosed spooky stealth map and that isn't encompassed when light shines in from the roof. However, this is just my opinion here do with the roof what you wish.

    The second thing is, and this would make the cave look way more accurate, try raising the ramps on the cave entrance up and replacing those railings with something wider and angling them in. I agree with Tycho, the railings don't work there. Aesthetically, and if you were to raise the ramps they wouldn't fit.

    The last thing and this is really minor, but it would make it look more polished, the coliseum wall between sticky detonator and assault rifle on the right of the overview; you should center that so the middle of it lines up with the one its phased into.

    Other than that, the map looks sweet. I've just based this of the screenshots for now. I'll try to download it when I get the chance.

    EDIT: Okay upon closer inspection the railings shouldn't be angled. The whole thing probably should be raised though like I said.

    I dunno I just felt like a totally enclosed map was boring visually. The light shining in gives it some more personality.

    I started it with walls, but it just was so dark and grey I decided to do windows.

    Raise the ramps? I don't really follow

    I understand this but I feel they are just a little over used there. Using the windows in the walls is nice but the ceiling not so much. The ceiling needs at least to be lowered slightly though, so those blocks are completely connected. Rat Race is supposed to be dark anyway.

    You have used upside ramp pieces at the cave entrance. They look slightly to low.

    The issue was their angle was too extreme. Dropped them back 10degrees now it feels more natural.

    I uploaded a new version to my File Share. I can't decide if it's worth it to keep the lights. People have said things about framerate already, but I just dropped it about 2k in budget.

    It's called Rat Trap Lite, which is ironic because now it's darker

    although i never really played the original i have to admit that this looks really sick!
    i really like the layout and the cave, and the pieces you used for them.
    also the ligthing and coloring just looks fantastic in my opinion!
    although i feel like those railings at the cave are not very neat and the collums at the red ligth should go trough the ceiling so u dont dee those edges!

    Do you have a new Xbox 360 S or an older console? I have noticed that people that have the S don't suffer as much with frame rate lag. In my experience, the original didn't have any frame rate drop but it was just me in the game so I don't know.

    Yes, I just downloaded it and walked around. That cave entrance is perfect now, its all around good now. The other thing I noticed in the original is how the windows from the ceiling were visible when you looked out the window behind red spawn. Now they are not.

    I just uploaded another version to my file share. This one includes OS spawns at the old OS/invis spawns.

    I also uploaded images of the lite version so you can do a side by side comparison.

    If the light weight version proves to be more popular I'll get rid of the more decorative version.

    Please let me know!

    I see you went with a one-way shield behind the teleporter frame... I did the same in a map I'm working on... in my case it was over a cliff so I wanted to make sure you don't miss the porter when jumping... if so, it saves you. Nice touch! Look forward to the completed map, as this has always been a classic.

    This was my most favorite map from Halo 1 and me and my buddies played it to no end with system link and xbconnect.com.... with that said.... I can sorta see this being it but it feels totally off. Could just be because of the forge capabilities but it just doesn't feel like Rat Race. Good attempt thou.

    well i would just say that i totally loved the decorative version.
    sometimes when making a remake, artistic choices are what separates it from the pack.
    that being said, if it was having framerate issues, that really sucks and it must change...

    glad to see this is ready to go though, lemme get an invite next time you are playing on it.

    also, i think it feels dead-on to the original in terms of dimensions. great job!

    I just flew around all three variants, and I have to say that I think they look great. I personally like the more decorated version with the windows in the top. I think it makes the map look more interesting visually. I can understand other people wanting that "classic cave feel" though.

    I'm hoping to get a couple of games in on it tonight, and that will give me a better idea about the frame rate.

    I'd prefer the green background on both teleporters a la Halo CE, but I'd definitely recommend hiding the node itself and just increasing the teleporter range so it doesn't appear in front of the shield. Having the active node there sorta ruins the magic.

    This is an awesome remake of Rat Race. I like that you addressed a lot of the feedback. That's what makes the maps evolve into what they should be.
