Agreed. I feel like my purchase of the LE has become entirely unnecessary. Microsoft won't be happy that they've lost out on some cash because of the errors yesterday, but at the end of the day it is they who are at fault.

Considering all the maps are shitty anyway and Fileshare is still broken, I'd be pissed off too. Being forced to pay for map packs you have no interest on playing on just so your party doesn't get split up because a few people bought the map packs is ****ing frustrating as ****. What do I get because 343i didn't deliver on something they implied would launch with the game, that I paid for the game to be able to use? What the **** do I get?

Looks like Sky was right. And what a shitty cover-up. I can see lots of people boycotting the map packs after pulling something like this. I know I'm not paying 800ms for three generic btb maps that make Defiant and Noble's look like works of art.

I've never witnessed such awful community support. They're quick to act when its about gaining or losing money, but no word yet about fileshares or whats coming in title updates. I feel like in buying Halo 4 we've invested into Halo 5. This games totally getting overlooked now because its just such a sloppy, rushed job.

Feeling a little frustrated that I payed for maps most everyone else got for free, but I'll live with it. I've enjoyed the maps so far, though I wish Shatter had Warthogs, it's pathed so well for them. I'll admit though that the dis-inclusion of them makes for some interesting gameplay as well.

So after a few nights of sheer debauchery I think we have managed to use the hog effectively again. I already brought up before that driving more defensively helped a lot, and now we have found out how to drive certain maps (even Longbow) in a way that gets us kills without getting us killed. It's also been interesting bringing in a person in the side seat. Usually I would call that a "rolling triple kill" but it has worked fairly well a few times, especially if they have a power weapon. It's also hilarious to have a plasma pistol in your side seat, as during a battle with another vehicle they get EMP'd by the Hog itself. It's awesome. It's also good to have a SAW or even a DMR in the side of a rocket hog to clean up enemies that aren't killed, as the volley takes a while to reload.

I'm still unhappy with Flag, though not for the reasons people speculated about. The flagnum and no dropping the flag don't bother me (even if I don't see why you can't drop it.) It's the fact that between player movement speed, instant pickup, and the ridiculous reset timer it becomes almost impossible to stop a carrier guarded by even a few teammates. The flag moves across the map so fast and is so hard to reset that games tend to go 1 of 2 ways: If teams aren't quite balanced the better team gets all 5 flags ridiculously quickly, and if they are balanced it's an absolute stalemate the whole time (which has always been an issue with flag.) I've tried modifying the gametype a bit, but frankly flag just doesn't feel like it works as well to me in the Halo 4 sandbox, which is sad. At least infinity slayer (when modified) works well along with dominion, extraction, oddball, team regicide, etc...

And as I am working on my second map and have seen quite a few others I do not see how this forge is worse. Everything I've seen has looked better overall, and the terrain, while smaller, is still quite large and offers a number of interesting places to build. I don' think any of the terrain should be built on canyon style, where you place things on the terrain without actually building any of the floorspace yourself, as that doesn't really work this time around. However, if you use a part of the terrain and then build from there you can end up with some interesting designs. Frankly I'll be glad not to see another Hemorrhage look-alike, even if I have to deal with space tube maps now.

One final thing I have to say though: no matter how many annoyances or issues there are in Halo 4 matchmaking, I can still play it and enjoy myself, something I could not say about Reach. In Reach I only played customs and I forged, as the online MM was so unenjoyable that I rarely could go in and have a good time. I'm just happy that I can play again without wanting to shove my head through a meat grinder.

...you're joking, right? Highlands had to be one of the single worst BTB maps in the history of Halo.

I have played a few matches on each of the maps.

Wreckage - I just don't feel like the map plays well. It's like a gravitational pull into the center of spam death. The rest of the map lacks any real definition or reason to go out there.

Shatter - I love the ambient look to the map, and the layout is pretty decent, but I really wish they would've went classic here and just made it a Hog map. The mantis does nothing for me.

Harvest - This is actually one of my favorite maps in forever. The layout is sweet, it plays really well, and the look is decent. It could've looked a lot cooler, but at least it plays awesome.

I still love this game, and I do think 343 needs to focus on fixing certain things faster, like the fileshare system, but the one thing that could make me really get into it more was if they altered the Infinity Slayer gametype to be more like what they described pre-launch. Initial and random ordnance drops should cover power weapons. They should be planned out and map-specific.

When you receive a personal ordnance drop, it should be a selection of resupplying ordnance, and you should always have a magnum secondary from loadout, unless you use the Firepower perk.

    Choices should be:
    Primary weapons -- Grenades -- Secondary weapons/Needler

Whoever said Harvest was a BTB map: Have you even played it?

That map is straight-up 4v4, but with Hogs and Jumpz so it's actually fun.

I can't say I blame them for fixing the free downloads and taking the map pack back unless you've bought it. People in essence were just stealing it. I do however think it was tacky to pretend they meant to do it. haha

Comments are closed because every sensible person was like, "this is bullshit, why don't you just admit that you screwed up? There was nothing that marked the free Crimson maps as a trial and it didn't exist until you made it up. Way to lie to your fanbase, 343."

The people who are doing the pointing and the blaming are the people who bought the Map Pass, and they have every right to be saying that this is BS.

No, it was BS when those of us who payed for the map pass found out the maps were free. Now pretending this was planned all along is a bit stupid, but I'm kind of glad they did something, otherwise I'd have felt super conned.

The problem is that now everyone who got the map pack free and was excited now feels conned.

There is no doubt in my mind that bsangel is covering this up. You don't just make up something after the damn fact. And that is what is pissing me off - they are still in denial about the poor job they're doing. Until they get out of denial, there's no way they can improve the game at all.

What I'd like to see? A post, somewhere, in which 343i shows they care about the game, recognizes that it hasn't been as good as it could have been, and actually makes changes. This means fileshares up, broken custom games options fixed, and nudge put back into the game. Every one of these things should be considered "core content" and not just "bonus suggestions."

I doubt bsangel was the one to make that call.

My (completely uninformed) guess is that MS wanted to back track over what was essentially their error and indirectly their loss. Whether 343 are autonomous enough to be involved in the decision, or just have it handed down to them, on an issue like this I don't have a clue.

How will they restrict access to the maps? I mean they're already on my harddrive? Can they delete them, or just restrict access to them while I'm on xbox live?

Reminds me of the video WWWilliam just showed me :p (It was actually an really informative video, things i didnt realized until now.) This is going to cost them. But im happy, now microsoft is hitting themselves for this stupid mistake wich they kind of deserve.
I got the map pack code, but well.. because of this screw-up i dont even have to bother to redeem it, yet.

Did you already downloaded them? If not, you can see "Crimson DLC" in the playlist, with an error sign next to it. If you just select that it already automatically takes you to the purchase sign of the map pack, but it is free, so go ahead and do that. I dont think they can just delete them, that thread that they released pretty much covers up the screw-up.

This is an great oppurtunity, yes. However, not fair to the people who bought the Map Pass or the Limited Edition.
