I don't know if most of you don't realize how to do this or whatnot, but I've seen so many posts and complaints about the removal of zooming in and out on an object. Well, it wasn't removed. If you know that, then this thread isn't for you.

Simply grab an object, and hold the right trigger. Once holding the right trigger, use the left thumb stick up and down to zoom close or far on an object. It does make quite a few things easier.

    Kthanksbye.

    :O

I'm going to try this out, then proceed to slap myself in the face. Would have been nice if we had been in some way informed of the change in controls by 343i. Somehow I bet those words are going to come back to bite me later though.

Er... You've kind of missed the point man. There are 2 kinds of zoom, this one moves you closer or farther from the object, the one that was removed zoomed your view in but not your body. Not the same thing.

I know this but its not really effective, as the controls will still shift the object as much as they did when you are zoomed out.

Gotcha. My mistake. Regardless, I'm sure there are a ton of people who don't realize how to do this.

I thought most people knew this.
Not the same as actually zooming in though, you're just placing yourself closer to the object as opposed to zooming in on a specific spot.
And yeah, as said above, really not all that useful for the larger pieces.

This was in Reach and it worked wonderfully there, as well as the zoom function(that had multiple purposes)

Correct me if I'm wrong but in halo 4 from my memory it does something dodgy like it kicks you back to "unzoomed" whenever you move or rotate the object or forces you to be in the center of the object or something annoying that undermines its usefulness in halo 4.

It does that in Reach too. It snaps your 'contact point', or whatever you want to call the spot on the object where you grabbed it and where your camera is focusing, to the rotational axis and snaps your distance to the default.

The thing that bugs me about this particular feature (in Halo 4) is that it doesn't seem to work on all objects. Things like Gravity Volumes (or maybe it was Trait Zones - I'm not sure) just won't let you move yourself closer. That might have been fixed by the patch though - I have no idea.
