Damnation

    Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you my second remake: Damnation.

    I used 5 versions as reference. Damnation (Halo CE), Damnation Anniversary (Reach), and 3 different forged variants.

    I also made minor minor changes to some of the geometry.
    -Top teleporter now a little harder to camp.
    -minor size changes of rooms
    -Accidentally had to alter the Plasma Rifle/pipe room. It was the last part I built, and it was mildly too close to the cliff, so I had to wrap the ramp around instead of straight down. The room feels absolutely fine, just a hair too small. It's still pretty awesome though.

    Looks secks. I saw someone use vehicle pads to make the circular platforms that were on penance and it looked pretty awesome. All he had to do was put something underneath (rocks) to hide the hologram. You might not want to do that but just in case.

    YEAAAAH BABY, looks way better than that Erosion remake that someone made. Glad you didn't change anything from the original and added the purple Covie theme. Also like how you chose the perfect spot to make this, right off the edge of the cliff looking inwards toward the ravine, just beautiful.

    plays great. my only little complaint was the lifts, as i mentioned.
    im not a remake expert so i cant comment on how perfect it is, but i can say that it totally felt and played like damnation

    Lift is fixed, as per your request and suggestion. Final version is in my fileshare, along with the Classic Team Slayer gametype to play it with.

    Also plays decent with Oddball, Koth and Regicide. CTF is okay.

    Nice placement. I only wish that the indoor areas in forge looked nicer. There's nothing that could be done to fix that...

    This looks like a great remake, my only issue (that's fixable) would be the boxy peices outside. I would like so see it made more circular (as per Waterfallninja's suggestion).

    This is a remake of Damnation, not Penance. I saw the other remake, and the proportions were not to my liking. So for going for the accuracy of Damnation from CE, I feel like I went the proper route. The bridge areas are supposed to be thin and dangerous.

    Nope, I wouldn't have guessed it but it's looking very pretty, very purple.

    Just had a runthrough of it and damn, it feels just so damn familiar. Loving it, man. You're really pumping them out, well done.

    No, I mean more aesthetically I would prefer some different form there. I understand your intentions and agree that you have done it all quite well, but it looks rather awkward. still, that's my preference and admittedly the vehicle pads are a bit large. I'm just not sure what else you might use, but the 1x2 blocks just don't seem quite right. Though it has been a while, and you were most definitely the last upon that map between the two of us.

    I played on this last night, it was great. All the gametypes worked well with it. Felt just like Damnation from CE. Great job silence

    Okay so I just got done playing on this...and...I want to love this map, but I can't. Every single piece on here is crooked. I can tell you didn't use coordinates at all since there are just holes everywhere, especially the sniper walkway. This would have been an amazing, but it's just not pretty to look at...

    I have no idea what you're talking about, seeing as I used coordinates for the entire thing, other than to change the z-fighting. Crooked? I'm totally lost.

    Can anyone else download this and confirm? Maybe the version I uploaded was bad?

    Just downloaded it. There's no z fighting or crooked pieces. That guy must have looked at in forge with someone else in the game.

    I hate to say this. But you might want to move the map if you want this to truly be a remake.The pipe room is really off-scale. You have the incline lined up with the door. It should start inclining closer to the corner. About 2.5 units to the right of where you have it right now. Which is much more than a "hair" like you described it. In fact, its more like half the room is missing. That particular part of the room is necessary for safe spawning too, because with the way you have it now, I could see you spawning there from the risky bridge. You can work on that for now. It really sucks that you can't just move the pre fab terrain, or take some kind of chunk out of it. But you can never expect a first version to be perfect. I'm on version 44 with about 30 hours of forging. Your just gonna have to put a little more time into this if you want it to be accurate. I'll be back with more. I want you to nail it. Then there would be a Damnation remake AND a Penance remake to keep this sexy map design alive for future halos.

    Red room is looking like you're best room so far. Looking at it now. I see that I missed a couple cover pieces on top of red platform. I'll have to add those.

    EDIT: You submitted it to the contest already? Why? Don't just overlook the geometry of some of the rooms just because you're excited to fire off a damnation remake. I went through the same thing. I was so stoked to be done building, that i was in denial of any potential problem that people brought up. I ended up changing almost everything that people pointed out to make it more accurate. Hopefully you update your submission.

    it's really good the way it is... I didn't have a copy of CE running at the same time to compare every single room's dimensions, but every place felt more or less like the original and contained all the right architecture.

    The pipe room did seem a little different, but not BAD. The only thing I would have done there which is different is to make the pipes rounded on the tops too, not just the bottom. Though, those Railing pieces can get costly to use, both in resource budget and in lighting budget (yes they are two different things which I am trying to isolate and document for people soon)

    Ya see, after play testing this a bunch, I actually came to like my version of the room better. It promotes movement easier for the person at the bottom. I thought about redoing the map for the reason of accuracy, but that room doesn't play any differently in the games I experienced. Everyone enjoyed the map as is, so I cannot see spending another 30 hours redoing my whole map just to straighten a ramp. I am balls deep in an original map that I'm crazy about, so I entered it as it is.

    Some might see this as lazy, but I truly like the map as it is, and I'm happy with it.

    start by building a quick outline of the limits of the map. if that doesn't fit, it's easy to move.

    This must be a fairly true to the original remake. I got lost 3 times while walking around the map :) I always hated playing the original, my friends would laugh at me while I repeated, "where the hell am I!" I was so happy when the remake was made. It came with Noob friendly visual reference points.
