The Longest Yard (Quake Remake)

    It's The Longest Yard, from Quake III Arena (1999).

    Also making a Quake Live variant which has some differences.

    I forgot to upload it to my fileshare but it will be there soon. I'll let you know when.

    Had to make a few adjustments because the physics in this game are stupid. Had to put railing behind the receiver nodes because sprinting through teleporters for some reason pushes you backwards. Also put railing at the railgun platform...didn't need it before but through testing I found out if you get shot at in the back while going off the lift you'll overshoot the platform. Pretty lame.

    Forgot to mention that obviously there weren't enough grav lifts so I conveniently replaced them with teleporters, it's not a huge downgrade and it works just fine.

    x2 Rocket Launcher
    x2 Shotgun
    x1 Beam Rifle (Railgun)

    x1 Overshield (Heavy Armor)
    x1 Damage Boost (Quad Damage)

    I am here to say that I hated that map

    so.much.camping.

    other then that, it looks like The Longest Yard's albino cousin, so good job!

    I guess there's camping if you play with few people, more than that and it's chaotic fun with no camping, seeing how it's an open map.

    it actually occurred on the far island (the little island separated from the rest of the map)

    people would just stand there with a sniper and kill anyone launching towards them, and snipe

    Longest Yard is TERRIBLE for dueling. It's alright for most other games.

    There's so many good Quake 3 maps just begging to be remade

    I have to agree with Mick, Longest Yard is one of those Quake maps that doesn't transfer well into Halo. Still, in terms of the remake, this looks very accurate. If anything, I would suggest changing up the weapons to better gameplay. Unless of course, you want it to be as accurate to the original as possible.

    if halo had less aim assist and or actual projectiles and faster speed i could see this working but sorry to say this map just would not work for halo 4. halo 1 is the only one i could see working for or halo 3 because the br sucks at long range

    If you read the OP you would see that I said I was in the process of making a Quake Live version...which has tons of weapons in it. I just made both to assure fans of both variants were happy.

    That doesn't have any relevance to what I said, hahaha. I was just suggesting that you make the weapon layout with Halo's playstyle in mind, not Quake's. Goodluck with this either way.

    Nah don't do that. Instead make a custom gametype for it. Bottomless clips and 25% weapon damage, so you can rocket jump. Amp up melee to 300%, to simulate the gauntlet. Everyone starts with SAWs, to replace machine guns. 150% player speed and jump.

    Then you can make MORE quake maps. If you manage to remake The Edge or Tokay's Tower from Q2, I will kiss your boots. Seriously. Mail them to me. I'll take pictures of me kissing them and make a thread. Promise.

    As much as this map is hated, you've done a pretty faithful remake here.

    Tried that...didn't turn out too well. As for as the map goes, no problem, I love taking requests.

    Could have been a lot better...

    Honestly I think Quake Live was the biggest pile of crap I have ever seen. Having to pay a yearly fee almost as much as my Xbox Live just for some extra maps is stupid. Also after perusing their maps available on the forum I've decided that the original maps were really the best. That is a matter of opinion though I suppose and I don't mean to offend. I was just extremely disappointed with Quake Live. Some of the Original Maps I would recommend for remake are Deva Station, Hell's Gate, Vertical Vengeance, Bouncy Map, Apocalypse Void, and The End Of You. Some good ctfs that would be plausible are Space Ctf and The End Of You Ctf layout. I do like your Longest Yard. It looks accurate and well put together. As for people always bringing up camping in Quake maps, people who were really good at Quake didn't have to camp. In fact if you are on a decent unmodded server it's almost impossible to camp in Quake. You get destroyed way to often, the maps keep you way to close together or if you are far away from the battle or camping then you are losing the lead. Either way, camping is never a good plan on Quake. I imagine if the remakes are accurate it will be the same as the og. I am starting a Deva Station soon.     Quake 2 maps would be so bad ass.
    The game variant is also a good idea. The saw is too powerful though in my opinion as the starting machine gun. My Quake variant has same levels all around except speed is 125% because Quake was so much faster. The assault rifle is the starting weapon. I wish there was a way to make the railgun feel more like the quake railgun

    SAW is actually too weak, believe it or not...it would take days to kill someone with an AR. I messed around with some settings and it's impossible to balance the ability to rocket jump with how much damage you give/take.

    Also beam rifle is a good replacement for the railgun.

    You really think it's too weak. That thing feels too overpowered, hahah. I have gotten pissed on by it too many times in halo 4

    It's weak when you try to make it fit with Quake settings.

    Tycho, are you using Rockets or Concussion rifles for the rocket jumps? If Rockets, switching to concussion could help you on the damage situation.

    First off I want to thank you for choosing a classic map that is not Halo. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Halo maps but I yearn for more. Ut, Quake and Red Faction 2 had some awesome maps.

    I was going to give this map a proper look see but I didn't see it in your file share. One thing that bugged me from the photo's was the height of the rear jump pad. I really love to see things like that as high up in the sky as possible. The old DM maps like this, had you flying through the air constantly. First thing I did when I got my hands on Jolan's remake of RF2's Fall Factor was increase the Map heights back to the more classic heights (viewable in the links below)

    I would love to do a proper walk around a get a feel for the map. I may not be able to give much advice on forging the perfect recreation of the original but I could tell you if it feels like a classic map.

    Yeah as I said in the OP it was hard to make the map like the original because of the physics. Obviously it's impossible to balance jump height between the grav-lift and regular jumps. Also the rail gun platform was a pain too because going off the lift while being shot at causes you to go farther than you're suppose to, so it was hard to make that original as well. Most things that aren't physically possible in the Halo sandbox has been adjusted accordingly.

    EXCELLENT idea.
