After a little thinking I've managed to recreate 1 Flag CTF in Halo 4, one of the things that I have missed the most since the game was released. The good news is it plays just like 1 flag used to (besides Halo 4's general flag changes, though I changed flag countdown timer to 25 seconds with 15 seconds to reset it via standing on it.) Teams switch positions with each round and the round ends when you cap the flag, and the defensive team cannot pick up the offensive teams flag. This is unmodded and actually stupidly simple. The bad news is it's not entirely contained in the gametype. If you want your map to support 1 Flag CTF you have to do a little work on the map as well. The concept is just to design it so the flag stand is not in the map but simply extending its zone into it in an area, such as having the flag stand above the roof and having the zone extend down. The trick then is to make it obvious that this is where you are trying to take the flag. This can be done in many ways, and it is important to remember to keep the flag stand as close as possible to the place you are taking the flag as it has the waypoint on it. Ways to cap the flag then can range from simple and modernistic (flag stand above ceiling with an indicator on the floor) to extravagant (think man cannons and teleports.) On my file share is the necessary gametype as well as an example of a somewhat basic system. This system is one of the ways you can do an interesting but unobtrusive flag cap. Hopefully we can get some 1 Flag CTF maps going again in the near future! Gamertag to search until file shares are up: Flying Shoe ILR Edit: Making a better system now as well, one that takes no budget to build and is much simpler and visually almost the same as it has always been. Getting the waypoints to all line up may be impossible but you can get them close. "One Flag CTF" - Competitive Forge Tutorial - YouTube
YES, YEZ, YES! I'm so setting this up for Abandoned right now!! Thank you so much, One Flag CTF was one of my favorite gametypes and I'm glad to have it back.
Um... sorry? I'm not exactly sure how this works.. Are you just preventing players from picking up the flag while having the zone extend into an area where you can walk to and cap it?
Basically. Here is the simplest way to do it: Place the offensive flag above, below, or nearby the place you want to be the capture zone. This serves 2 purposes: to create a waypoint in the general location of where the flag needs to go and to allow you to extend the zone into the map so you can cap it. Step two is to place another flag stand with no label wherever you want the cap to be. Then put the other flag's zone on top of the visible flag stand so it looks like that is what you are actually capping it on. The result is something that is basically 1 flag CTF when played with the gametype. It can take a little fooling around with, but it's pretty easy to set up and can be done with little to no budget. Just make sure there is room for the actual flag to spawn under/ over the map so it doesn't get pushed off it's flag stand and start falling into the ocean or something.
Lol, I'll enter it for the Forgotten Treasures contest. Examples of this system are on my file share. The first one is simple, the second one is overly complicated and wastes budget but could work for a mini game.
The Psycho Duck has agreed to make a youtube video for THFE on how to set a map up for 1 Flag CTF, but it won't be up until next week at the earliest because of the holiday.
I mostly pretty much get it. If this works as good as I hope, It could easily play on Solace, because of the varying bases. +1 DL if I actually had halo 4
For it to work on a map like Solace you would have to make a custom variation of Solace still. Not sure where you would put the attacker flag though to hide it as you don't have structural parts.
If anyone doesn't get how to set it up I can set it up if you send me a message or invite Uploaded a few default maps setup with one flag on my file share
Thanks a million! I just published my own 1-Flag CTF map but had forgotten about this issue. I had become so frustrated trying to replicate the gametype on my own. I'll implement it when I get a chance to later tonight.
Thank you good sir. Now build a map for it! I'm trying to design my first Halo 4 1 flag map now, I'd like to see them become widespread again.
After seeing your initial post, I have also come up with a design that could work for 1 flag.. 1 FLAG REVIVAL! Shoe, you da man.
