Hey guys, it's been a while since I've forged or visited this site as I gave up Forging at the end of Halo Reach. But I've worked very hard on re-remaking Lockout on Halo 4. I made one on Tempest back in 2010 but I thought I'd bring it back again for Halo 4.

    Map Name: "Lockout Default v3"
    Gamertag: ash55
Start/Spartan Hub -> File Browser -> Map Variants -> File Share Search -> search "ash55"
Recommended Players: Teams of 2v2 - 4v4 (6-8 man FFA also fun)
Recommended Gametypes: No Radar/Pro Slayer, Oddball and King of the Hill

Feel free to make any tweaks to it you'd like to fit your playstyle. So, if you don't like radar being off, reenable it on the map's trait zones.

I also made a thread here on MLG's forum if you wish to look at more information I may have missed or check out people's opinions before downloading (it's been quite positive).

    Have fun guys.

It all looked beautifully to scale until I saw the prefab buildings you've used instead of Forging them yourself.
I've done a remake of the map on Erosion and I've made all the buildings myself but the lighting has now broken and parts look bad :(

You should try scaling the BR Tower and Sword rooms and Forging them yourself as the Sniper Tower and Lift room look great.

Looks very accurate, some scales look a little off but it didn't seem to throw off the lines of sight much at all. The only thing I can see it's missing that is very important is the rock wall/roof but on ravine, there isn't much you can do about that now.

I'm cool with feedback, in fact v3 is the culmination of a lot of feedback... but this just left me scratching my head.

Why would I forge those buildings myself when they're already provided, and they're accurate? Setting aside the fact that forging it yourself will be a much bigger blow to performance on an already object heavy map?

Am I missing something here? Can I take a look at your version?

Edit: Whenever I see a BR tower used in an original forge map I do see it as kind of lazy and unoriginal, but when you're remaking the very map that these pieces are based on... why wouldn't you use them?

I'm sorry, but if the prefab buildings work, he shouldn't change them. Just because it's not made of a bunch of building blocks doesn't mean it's bad. This map looks amazing. I mean, I know a lot of new forgers will use prefabs for things and it WILL look bad, but I don't believe that to be the case here. Of course I won't be able to say for sure until probably tomorrow when I load it up in Halo 4, I say leave it be.

Also, props to you for using Ravine, the peices look much nicer for this remake than the others.

Edit: I'll update or post again after I actually see it in-game.

I found something wrong with your map, the superjumps aren't working at all for me... :)

The prefab buildings are actually a fair bit smaller than they were in the original. The BR Tower and Room Triple need to be forged by hand to be scaled correctly.

I wouldnt do it myself though, I would much rather use the prefabs and then scale the whole map down accordingly to get a cleaner look in general. I would then use those extra peices / budget to add some nice aesthetics to the map.

The map looks great though ash. Really nice forge all round. I look forward to seeing this in person

You could always forge a trait zone that lets you. :)

Truth is, most people hate using too many prefabs on maps because it doesn't express creativity. Making your own buildings using an assortment of pieces won't get you anywhere if you are pressed for time, but if you are interested in making a good looking map with equally good gameplay, time shouldn't matter.

Think about it - If everyone made maps using prefabs, wouldn't almost all the maps look the same?

In short - prefabs aren't liked around here. If you wish to stand out and become a known forger, try deleting a few of those prefabs and make your own buildings from scratch. You'll be surprised on how much more creative freedom you have when you make it from scratch.

Just some food for thought. Welcome to 4chub.

EDIT: Ohhhh you are making a remake. Like others said, the buildings are a tiny bit smaller than Reach, so you'd either have to make those buildings by hand or scale the entire map to be accurate.

problem with not using prefabs is for maps like lockout, ascension etc is that if you do it all from scratch you royally f you aesthetic appeal, at least they didn't make the columns and railings cost so damn much in this one, on 3 and reach its like they forced you to use prefab more than making your own to save budget, overall it looks beautiful and yes ravine pieces look a hell of a lot better than erosion, my lockout inspiration map on erosion looks like **** compared to this lol. And not design wise just color wise the lighting below that map is ehh at best.

I'd question anyone who remade Lockout/Blackout and didn't use the prefab buildings. I mean, come on, they were made for that! If you want to use creativity on remakes, don't remake Lockout/Blackout or Ascension. Its obvious those pieces are for those remakes. Think about how much budget you would have to waste just to build those three prefabs. I'm with Ash on this, why not use them? This map looks great and I'm definitely going to be downloading this one until I see a better version.

New to the forums, but my 2 cents... I would much rather a map play, feel AND look nice whether I made it or not. Some non-prefeb creations look crappy. Shouldn't the size of the map be based off of the original lockout from Halo 2 anyways?

When it comes to creativity, using any piece to create your own design is creative... as long as it's your own.

using prefab buildings is easier on the frame rate, and conserves parts for use elsewhere

I'm with you. Completely agree with your whole post. I think a Lockout remake is the only acceptable situation to use pre fabricated buildings. Why wouldn't you. You could use 1 piece, or you could make a building out of 20 pieces. The building that used 1 piece would still look more true to the original, and would save you a **** ton of pieces. If I was remaking Lockout, the minute I decide to change the look of the buildings, is the minute I decide to turn it into a re imagination, not a remake.

Lol, in reply to nearly everyone saying "Why wouldn't you use the prefab buildings?"
The simple answer is, the conversion from any Halo 3 / Halo 2 map is the pieces measurements are out.
In Halo 3, a ramp the size of a 2x2 is actually a 1.5 x 1.5 in units terms. After measuring the entire map on Blackout (using respawn areas) the prefab BR Tower is not only smaller when you've done the upscale in units terms from H3 > H4, but it's also Smaller than the size it should be in H3 as well. So it's not like they've forgotten about the random 33% size increase (or unit reduction), but they've intentionally made the piece smaller so it can't be used to remake Blackout or Lockout accurately.

A remake is based on accuracy, and while understandable in wanting to save pieces, and framerate - It's not accurate. It actually causes the entire map to be out.
The same goes for the Sword room and the Basketball rooms. The fact they don't even line up should be a massive hint that these pieces are scaled differently.

I've had to add my own aesthetic twists on my version simply to accomodate for the lack of pieces and budget. I've lost the lighting, and I've had to resort to a lot of the railings being switched out for the barricades in the Dominion category. It's the sole reason I won't be entering the map as a sub for the contest because it isn't 100% accurate. If I only had to remake half the map, I'd have the map made perfectly, to scale, with all jumps included.

I'm just being picky, but the angle of the ramps needed to go up the BR Tower, the gap down the side that he has... it just isn't how it is naturally on Lockout/Blackout.

But Stevo, you're allowed to scale your map up or down for the contest. As long as it's scaled as a whole. Don't give up just because the game has different mechanics. Just use the buildings and scale the whole map down 33%. If you want, I can even quote the staffie who said some scaling is allowed.

It's impossible to do such a thing. The bridges leading out from the BR tower are larger than a 2x2 block, with about an extra .6 units coming out the sides for railings.

If you were to downscale everything to make the map fit the BR tower (because the two rooms aren't to scale with the BR tower either) you'd find that you'd have to less than 75% of all Halo 4 pieces. Every walk way would need to be less than 1.5 units in width... the Bottom mid angled room would be an array of dodgy pieces overlapping and poking out... It'd be a complete mess.

    The building is simply unusable.

1.5 unit wide walkways? That's tiny. There were probably that size in earlier games because there was no sprint. Spartan 4s need more room than that. What I meant to say was just scale up the walkways to theactual bridge size in halo 4. keep the rooms and buildings the same. Is that still impossible? Maybe I'm just not getting it. this remake looks like a ***** to make for such a simple concept.

The map looked really good. I was excited when I seen this Lockout/Blackout remake because it looked like an accurate one, even if you used prefab buildings (which I don't find as a big deal even if they are a bit smaller). It still looked great.

The problem with this map was the god awful gameplay. Not to sound rude, but that's the only way to put how this played. My brother and I were playing a 1v1 match on it and everything was going well. I was at top lift with the sniper and my brother was at the top of the BR tower. I sniped him and he spawned below me at bottom lift. I killed him again and he spawned at bottom lift...again. This went on for about five kills until he killed me. Once I died I spawned...bottom lift. It was basically me killing him and him killing me and whoever died would spawn bottom lift. This went on the WHOLE game.

It isn't a hard fix, you just need to work on your spawns. The jumps were accurate and the map looked fitting, but your spawns need a ton of work. You won't win the competition with spawn problems, especially one as bad as your map has.

Not trying to sound rude, just trying to give you feedback as to what needs fixed. I hope I helped and good luck in the competition!
