my submission to the Forgehub remake competition. Tried getting this to scale as possible, hope people like it. Haven't really play tested it, but walked through about a million and a half times. to download search "longridr" in the file browser, and it should be on my file share.
Looks pretty nice actually. Ever think of trying to put a low gravity zone in the center so people can jump across? That may help the map flow a bit better.
checked it out in forge. really excited to get some playtests on it. i loved boarding action. i agree with Duck about the grav volumes, it would make it new and exciting, while still being a remake. my main concern with this map transferring to H4 is the effect that precision weapons as starting weapons will have on the map.
Or just make them sitting ducks. Quack. This remake looks sweet, Impact provides the perfect space to make this too, with it being in space and stuff. Good work.
i never actually played this map in the old Halo's, though this looks great, colour me impressed! The grav zone would be a fun option as well. Sky makes a good point about the sitting ducks and all, though just imagine the possibilities it could open up!
i come bearing bad news... we just playtested this with 6V6. #1 - framerate is back in Halo 4 with a fierceness. #2 - as i feared, boarding action simply does not work with all the new weapons in the sandbox. i am sorry. :'(
custom gametype, and loadouts should fix the weapon problem, but there really isn't much you can do about the framerate issues on impact. I made a map with only a few Colosseum windows and the lighting made the game lag.
strange, I made a map using the whole budget and all 4 lights and everything on Impact and it's absolutely fine.
i think this is a different circumstance, because of how the entire thing is visible at one time from either side. unfortunate :'(
I thought about adding that trait zone in the middle, and actually made a version with it, but i didn't like it as much. My main fear was frame rate, i hoped it was good enough for 4v4. never intended 6v6, and i haven't play tested it at all, but i figured it would be a big change with br's and dmr's, but the initial load out is the only thing that should have changed weapon-wise, every other weapon on the map was in the original. (it was a hate it or like it kind of map.) Thanks for all the feedback though! Might be my first and last map on halo 4, dislike it compared to reach, and far cry 3 is out in a month
Man dude, this is a terrific remake and what a great idea to make this on Impact. Lag or no lag this is pretty great to have been done in such a short time frame. Have you considered using a special effect to dim it a bit? I mean it's great the way it is, but boarding action was always so dark and moody. thanks for this old treasure and I can't wait to give it a try on our customs night!
everything id have said has been said, so all i'll add is: inescapable issues aside, this thing is aesthetically gorgeous. i looked up at it when falling to my death in game and i was like O.O
Tallt66, Ya Boarding Action was the first thing that came to mind when i saw impact, so i was stoked to forge it again. i never gave the special effects a look, i think i tried them out just to see and the colors were either too vibrant or awkward, nothing that really gave it the old boarding action color that i desired haha. You should send me a message when you host a custom night! and CHUCK, right after i read you fell and looked up, i did the same thing
Man, this guy comes here with a nice remake of barding action, and you say that? Actually, framerate is a relative thing. If you played it with your friends and used a wrong gametype, it definetly isnt his fault. It is your fault by not have taken enough of this guy's work. lol So there is no reason to you to apologize him.
He gave constructive criticism. Why would you criticize him for giving feedback from his game? Frame Rate is also not relative unless you play split screen, which he did not say he did. You might also want to check to make sure your sentences make sense as well. I'm not really sure what you are talking about because of the sentence structure.
Oh, Really? Actually if you consider the overall maps in this forum and think about all the Classic comments of "Your map suffers from Frame Rate issues", his feedback was not very different as the traditional. I'm not saying to you guys, to stop giving feedback and Testing the maps of all persons, and respectively, say that it suffers from framerate. You guys in reality (and in the bottom of your minds) are just speaking of the limited potential of forge, and its inability to withstand certain hardware cases. Because, of course, Halo 4 had Framerate too! dont tell me?! What is obviously a common phrase coming from this forum and, of course, I consider that all maps will have framerate. No matter if it entire structure is created only with wall coliseums.
Dude, you are seriously rambling. I don't know what half of that was supposed to mean, nor what the problem is from playing the map in a normal setting and noticing that the map, becuase of choices by the designer, has frame rate lag. I think msot people want to be told if their maps have frame rate lag so that they can possibly fix the issue, and no, not all maps have this issue. I don't even know where you got that from but you are making no sense right now. Edit: Also we should probably end this and get back to the map. Personally I don't care much for the original Boarding action but this looks fairly faithful so far. The map probably won't work though with logn range weapons (besides the original ones) especially off spawn. Edit 2: So I had no idea English wasn't your first language man. I had talked to you before and never noticed anything, so I was really surprised here and thought something was wrong. All I meant was that framerate is a normal thing to point out, that I would want people to tell me about frame rate lag on my own maps. This was just a misunderstanding, sorry again man.
it looks pretty good, which doesn't surprise me, since I saw your maps on FC2. actually on those screenshots, it looks more beautiful than the original (which looked a bit bland actually if I remember well)
