Hello dear forgers. Many of us have shown our disapproval of many of the changes made by 343i in Halo 4. My question is will they be able to make large patches. You may laugh at hearing me say this at first but there is something we have to remember. Unlike in Halo: Reach the multi-player and forge aspect of Halo 4 didn't run directly off the disk and instead had to be installed via disc 2. Does this mean that they can make patches to the whole of the multi-player and forge system by having everyone re-install an updated version? If so could this mean the addition of new vehicles? Weapons? What do you guys think? I am looking or the answer myself.
Additions of whole new game types, vehicles, weapons, etc. requires a major reworking of everything. It's possible, but for no added price, very very unlikely.
don't vehicles/weapons count as forge pieces like everything else? if they release a new forge map, I think it would be just as easy as anything to add in a falcon/hornet or whatever.
New Weapons? I don't think so. Just because it used a separate disc doesn't mean that they could just add new things as they please. Like Blue said they would need re-work things. Add the object to the Engine, new sound files, models etc... If it was possible though I would doubt they'd do it. We don't need any more vehicles or weapons.
Yeah I agree. I'm just crossing my fingers for more gametypes and customization, that seems more likely. And is it just me or is it really hard to forge a large-scale vehicle map now?
There's some misinformation in here. Gametype updates, even whole new ones, are easy. Just look at how the Insane gametype was added into Reach. Vehicles and weapons are a lot harder (to the degree that I wouldn't expect to ever see them added), because usually those elements are built into each individual map file, in the standard Halo file architecture; therefore it's easier for them to give us a new map with a new vehicle on it than add a vehicle to one or more existing maps. Adding vehicles and weapons also requires patching the main game code so the engine understands how those things behave, which is not necessary with gametypes.
How about instead of adding new vehicles and weapons, they patch some stuff that actually needs to be patched. Forge monitor zoom mode, fine tuning, light generation system doesn't work sometimes, and the biggest glitch is still there; that is if you forge on 45 degree and save that map, all the pieces will move slightly. Even the building blocks move now too it used to just be braces and walls.
Actually the rotation glitch always affected all forge objects, but it was only noticeable with larger pieces or when you forged things at funny angles. I'm surprised they didn't do more to combat this - just increasing the file size of the map files (they're tiny) would let them save a much more specific data string for the object's rotation and location, and then the rotation glitch would be practically unnoticeable.
About the new vehicle, this was started as an speculation while looking at the concept art of the map packs. Then they noticed Harvest, and they saw some flying ships in the background and people might have thought that you can drive those. In my opinion that is probally just for the atmosphere of the map. On another map you see frigates, but that doesnt mean you can drive those. I just wanted to tell you guys this.
