Right. But thats why it would need to be very big. You could incorporate shortcuts and secret passages that would be relatively difficult to get to for a big risk/reward factor.

I personally don't care for race but I might try building this idea and see where it goes.

Nah. I want to make it more than one lap. The size of the map is irrelevant. Most people want a game with more than one lap. Your idea is good but it just seems like a quick cop out and quick fix from someone who doesn't even care to racing as you say. Most of us here care a bit more and are willing to put a bit more into making the game type and maps to play the way we are use to playing race.

I realize its not fix-all solution and completely coherent dynamic but its viable option for a fun race type.

Another idea to prevent camping would be to make floating hills right after a drop so you can't stay in it.

Camping is not the problem. The problem is contesting on team enabled KOTH games. Masta has already solved this by just placing three goals side by side forming one long goal with an A B and C lane so to speak they also have three shield doors to make the timing perfect for one point every time.

If you see a team or a racer right in front of you, you just take a different lane. You have up to the last second to decide if you are taking the center or right or left. It sounds confusing but I tested it with a party and everyone scored and no one contested cause it was obvious what lane to take at the last second. I am working on a Battle Tracks and Savage Tracks game variants today. Hopefully will post soon as soon as the uploads are available.

That sounds rather honor-rulesy to me. What stops me from driving into another person's lane?

I suppose it would work if the hills were less than a mongoose wide, though.

that might just limit these maps to us in the forging community, anyone else will surely take advantage of it

Well, what if we just did trick maps instead for solo players. Imagine running through a level like you would as if it was a platformer. If you guys have the time look up the word 'Sarkathlon' and you'll know what I'm talking about.
I know that kind of kills one of the big joys of playing a race map with your friends, but I think this is one of the best solution we've got so far for race maps. Heck, maybe you can somehow make some co-op maps where players need to work together to overcome obstacles. I don't know if that would work, it's just my brain working I guess.

Which means no more customs with a bunch of random people, unless you want it to be a massive headache.

    Sad day.

I know 343 left out all of these awesome game types, and no one has any proof that they will add those gametypes, but 343 isn't a pile of ****. I don't have any proof that they will add race or one-sided gametypes, but if it is possible, then I think it's more than likely they will add these gametypes. I may be very wrong, but you never know.

I agree with you Muffin, plus 343 did say that they look at Title updates as not only a way to fix bugs but also as way to grow features and options.
(Of which you can find here.)

While they don't touch gametypes specifically, I think we have a pretty good chance of getting our favorite gametypes back sometime in the future. Until then, let's just make sure that we are ready for their arrival. IMO

think back to H3 man... it really wasnt that massive of a headache.
you just have to take the time to explain the rules before launching the game.

also, how often do you play crazy weird custom gametypes with randoms?
games like that are more often played with friends, whereas testing a competitive map is often done with whomever you can get your hands on.

im just saying, instead of us being all upset about what we've lost, lets look on the bright side and start getting creative! =)
