There's something about Halo 4 that has disappointed me, and that's the shockingly low amount of gametypes. The following gametypes are nowhere to be found: -asymmetrical CTF -asymmetrical Assault (Grifball can be customized to replicate symmetrical Assault) -Stockpile -Territories -Headhunter -Race -Invasion -Juggernaut Now obviously some of these gametypes have been replaced by new ones (Juggernaut=Regicide) and others have been merged (Invasion+Territories=Dominion) but I'm still quite upset. Am I the only one who saw great potential in Headhunter, Invasion and Stockpile? And really, One Flag and One Bomb are Halo trademarks. Why are they gone? The gametype department is one area I think 343 has failed to satisfy.
i agree with you about missing one flag and one bomb, but stockpile, invasion, and headhunter were all lame gametypes from Reach, NOT halo staples. and regicide is NOT juggernaut
This greatly saddens me. I don't care what the "hardcore" mainstream likes - they removed what I liked. First my heart is broken by what SC5 is missing... soon it will be broken by what Halo 4 is missing. .-.
Not halo staples but amazing game types specially for mini games which is pretty much all i forge. What does that mean? There is 3 primary bomb gametypes: 1 bomb,2 bomb,Neutral bomb. Which ones of those are in the game by default? -Neutral bomb=grifball, So that's in the game.(Anyone can pickup bomb) -1 Bomb, Is one where one team tries to plant then swaps each round,(only pickup your own teams bomb) -2 bomb, Is one where each team gets there own bomb to plant at enemy base(only pickup your own teams bomb)
Dominion is not a mix of Invasion and Territories in any way - it has no resemblance of Invasion whatsoever, because of this we can easily create new gametypes that will hopefully become the staple of Halo 4 custom games. You guys are all stuck in the past, sure we don't have some gametypes that were used in the making of older minigames, but think of what we can do with the new stuff.
Invasion is not a minigame. It was a popular, and when done right, extremely fun game that could last much longer than any standard gametype.
You may as well mention the lack of the Insane gametypes. Those were huge in Reach, and it's pointless leaving them out in Halo 4 from release (because I do hope they'll put them in in like a few months from now). Oh, and of course there's no VIP. Again. 343i's reason behind deleting these gametypes is that "they don't have added value in the Infinity war games simulation." However, as SpartanPeter already mentioned before, I don't really see how Grifball adds more in simulating a realistic war situation than Race or Invasion:
I was in forge today.. and see possibilties, not alot, but they are there. Nothing however for Race, juggernaut, Vip, insane etc. Just small minigame ideas with dominion and such. However, as Nutduster mentioned in the Halo 4 Discussion. We still (That just must be true) playlist updates. Maybe.. Maybe that is the only cure for this stupidity. They even messed up flood with all the custom options, because they are worthless without AA changing. They knew Infection was popular, did everything to re-skinn it and make it more realistic. But they forgot the key-points..
Yeah, they messed up Infection really bad. I am really just as upset as Race being gone as Infection being half broken. I was working on an awesome Infection game when I suddenly realized that they took out the Yellow Custom Power ups out of the game. I had to scrap the project cause it was going to use Custom Power ups. Another example of sheer stupidity on 343s part.
Certain gametypes like stockpile and headhunter I couldn't care less about - they are limited in customs potential (well, speedpile was amusing in some forms, and default stockpile made for a pretty good Haloball game before Insane came along). But race, a more customizable infection, assault, 1-flag, insane - those are all huge losses. We need them all back and then some. There's no good reason to have thinned the herd quite as much as they did (except that they just don't care much about forgers and customs-oriented players).
I gotta admit, I hate this whole "realistic war simulation" attitude of 343i. Sure, it's cool that the MP ties into the story and all, but is that really worth taking away fun gametypes the community loves? Not to mention Grifball is anything but a realistic war simulation. I have a feeling that this game will be short-lived for the custom game & Forge community.
...Great. I liked those. (Even though I was horrible at them, I still liked it.) All the gametypes they got rid of were pretty fun...and now they replace it with worse stuff. Like Regicide. (Except for Dominion, I kinda wanna try that out.)
I don't know about that. Competitive maps for core gametypes were always predominant over minigames and anything else like that; forge itself is roughly the same as before (to my annoyance, but still - it hasn't taken a significant step backward); and there's the possibility that some of these gametypes we're missing will be added back later. Reach delivered a lot of gametype updates, many under 343's care; I expect to see some of that with Halo 4, but who knows what form it will take exactly.
