The Anime & Manga Thread

a big no on naruto from this guy. haaaate. now, onto better things:

Perfect Blue is one of the best anime movies i've ever seen.

and being on the subject of anime movies, man does Steamboy make me sad every time i see it on tv. all that great animation and hard work for such a lame movie.

 

Aschur, I actually haven't watched Brotherhood though somebody recommended it a while back. I have read the manga though and I think it followed Brotherhood. I'll be watching the second movie tonight, hahaha.

Chuck, you should try Millennium Actress or Paprika. Paprika is odd as hell but a fantastic movie. The movies by that director are fantastic in general.

The Naruto manga is actually getting pretty good. I love Bleach, but it needs to end. I haven't been keeping up with One Piece.

EDIT: I got my friend started on anime through Perfect Blue. I miss the older anime movies liek that one.

 

i've seen Paprika multiple times, that's actually how i found Perfect Blue, which is way better. i'll have to check millenium actress out for sure though.

 

This is going to sound silly seeing as it isnt anime, but does anyone know of a series similar to the Forward Unto Dawn webseries?

Defining features being;
Scifi
Military related, preferably a setting sort of like Ender's Game (The book)

Its pretty rare that I ask you guys for a suggestion, plus I really wish there was more to that webseries.

 

My childhood just got more awesome.

Aschur, the closest thing I can think of is Ghost in the Shell, but I imagine you've already seen that.

Robbie Rist has voiced some weird characters, hahaha.

 

SAO is like 4-6 episodes from completion, you should like it, I sure as hell do.

 

I believe it is pronounced as "ruby". Also, at the end of the trailer it seemed to insinuate there would be girl coordinated with red, white, black, and yellow (RWBY being an acronym for all of them)

Now personally, I didnt care much for the way they used 3d models for the fight scene, but I am highly biased against use of 3d in tandem with 2d in animation. However, it has proven time and time again to help coordinate fight sequences and help the animation flow more smoothly in said sequences. Its just somewhat jarring to see the change from 2d to 3d sometimes, at least the tried to minimize how much of a difference there is.

 

Yeah, it definately looked like a psuedo BRS. Hopefully, they can keep the trend of good music for the full show.

 

There was 2d in most of everything but the fight scene. Well, that or they were deceptively good with how they pulled off the 3d in those spots. Either way, there is a notable difference in how it looks in both parts.

Try to take my opinion of this with a grain of salt, I usually don't like action/fighting anime like BRS, I prefer plot heavy anime... and there is not gonna be any in a trailer for that. I'll give it a try when it actually airs, but I probably won't like it.

(I also REALLY dislike anime with small girls that use ****ing huge weapons)

 

For those of you here that follow Red vs Blue you would have gotten a nice surprise after the credits.

Monty (the guy in charge of animation for the show) is doing an Anime called RWBY. Animation looks like the first remake of Appleseed.

 

a little slow... we are talking about it already.

EDIT; So, against my better judgement, I watched Gyo. Remember, the whole fish with robot legs thing from before? Yeah... not any better than the trailer. It was disturbingly gross as well, if you plan on watching it you might need a strong stomach. You also need to prepare for REALLY ****ING WEIRD ****.
