I do dislike the general trend of patting players on the head for every action. When you listen to the reasoning from 343, they make the basic reasonable point that it's good to let players know what to do, and also reinforce them doing the right thing, but the balance is an awkward judgement to make. These additions are indisputably there to help allow for the full spectrum of experience, and address the issue of confusion in newer players which is a particular issue in objective gametypes for obvious reasons. But how far do you without saying "ya know what? This just takes some getting used to"?

I know this doesn't really cross the major barrier of actually sacrificing elements of the game for experienced players simply to entice or help newer players (at which point I think it's fair to criticise a dev for having a disappointing amount of faith in their own game; putting more importance on enticing new players than keeping existing ones playing), but its efforts to make it easier on new players are getting a little...obtrusive. Like you say, not a huge complaint, but indicative of a slightly disappointing attitude and something I could personally do without. Jeff's voice is a marvel of gaming, I should never get tired of hearing it.

I feel like they want to make the guy who drives the warthog have the same amount of points as the gunner at the end of the match, which is a fair point, but I don't see how it makes sense, in terms of fairness to get 5 extra points just because you let your teammate get a shot in a guy, so he could get points for an assist before you killed him. No sense.

why doesnt getting a reward for assists and teamwork make sense? it only applies to your ordnance meter, assists or anything else besides kills dont count toward the actual team score

So one could potentially get banned from Halo and LIVE permanently if they had enough complaints filed against them? Yes, this can't be abused at all.

@Peg: I really want to see how Jeff will play into hardcore competitive/MLG games when everything is said and done. I feel like it could really help esports. As stupid as things like "distraction" are, they will at least help us to know that player A is getting shot by player F and player B saves player A by killing player F. It might sound horrible but it also might paint a great picture in a addition to MLG announcers.

@Skill Rank: Good, but obviously this was because we bitched. Hey, at least they listened so props to them because Bungie never did in Reach lol. I wonder what the distinction between competitive and non-competitive will be though. I also hope smartglass is ballin and populates the people in my match's waypoint stats super quick. Then I won't be too put off about it not being in MM.

    Thoughts: Is the SAW overpowered?

To be fair, Rockets have been OP in terms of skill to reward ratio since Halo CE. The dynamic of pickup power weapons allows for a certain spectrum in terms of player skill demand vs. reward gained since the emphasis can be shifted (by map design and placement) to controlling the weapon for the relatively easy kills it yields. Now this is called in to question when ordnance enters the mix because it hurts the principle of power weapon placement, but in principle I think the Saw looks fine as a power weapon.

Saw should be basically a guaranteed two kills at med/close range per clip. Has the potential to be 1-1.5 with failures, so it's pretty comparable to rockets.

In kill volume, yes, but it's inherently easier to use in certain situations, and while it doesn't have the instant kill bonus, you also can't blow yourself up with it, and you have a really low chance of missing completely.

I'm just saying, I would pick up the Saw before I touched rockets.

I was hoping you would bring up Esports, It does benefit the have announcer say things like "Hill moved" "Hill controlled" and vital things but I do think there is such a thing as to much when it's worse then playing 4 player split screen Race on Reach but its on every gametype "CHECKPOINT REACHED,CHECKPOINT REACHED,CHECKPOINT REACHED,CHECKPOINT REACHED,Repeated without a break till end of game" Well technically its Just helping the spectators know whats happening.

Even if the quantity wasn't overwhelming the quality isn't the best for esports either, Idk all the announcements but there seems to be obvious ones that aren't needed(grenade kill) which doesn't benefit anyone because either they know what happened by watching the game or they have no idea whats going on and medal wont help them figure it out.
Or not so obvious ones that you have to know the game to understand what they mean(Hail to the king (getting 15kills in hill) or something) so serving no purpose to ignorant spectators.

As for skill rank wonder how many accounts been sold, Boosters, Party cheaters will return from halo 3, and general rage it will because with drop in drop out system. But maybe none of that will return.
