    The Halo Bulletin: 11.1.12

So nothing important except armor and weapon skins give you their respective item early, Extraction is not a playlist at launch and 343i is still telling everyone "we'll tell you later" on the important things.

I just watched some KOTH gameplay. What a pile of shite.

It's basically slayer with a mini objective.

15 seconds in the hill, or 1 kill. 55 seconds in the hill, or a double kill after killstealing. That's one gametype I won't be playing. Oh wait, they've done the exact. same. thing. with oddball and CTF. Well, no objective games for me until they fix it!

So all the objective gametypes are now objective slayer?

What 343i have done is basically ruin the kind of really, really close contested games where somebody only gets a few seconds in the hill at a time, because the moment they are killed the other team gets 20 points for kiling somebody in the hill, plus 5 for everybody who gets an assist, plus 10 for a headshot, then 15 for "dominating the hill."

What a load of ****. Ruined a great gametype. I can't wait for the casual community to give up on halo, then everybody sane to give up on those gametypes.

If 343i have announced they are working on a TU before release and user feedback, they really, REALLY have ****ed things up.

    @pyro yes.

I haven't read all of the later posts at this point, but I don't want to forget to respond to this. They have said that in previous halos, you couldn't cap a flag if your flag wasn't at home, and that that was changing in H4, which prompted them to give a lame explanation of why they thought it was better to be able to cap it in all scenarios: it promoted the continual movement of flags through flag avenues.

I prefer being able to cap in all situations, but I really only regularly play BTB CTF. It's not really an improvement for there to be a best path ("avenue") to take the flag- its either that or there are equally good paths (both necessarily in any possible halo game and in previous halo games). The latter option is better than a single path. The fact that the flags are being moved more continuously from grab to cap isn't an improvement, either- it just means that the game is simpler and more predictable. In any case, it only existed and made sense if the flag was on a touch return or short timer return, or players would be sitting at the enemy base to return their flag, which would be much harder to pull off if some of your team is defending your own flag.

The important thing is that these settings were considered "classic" at the time of H3 and Reach, and have not been the usual ones in MM playlists- they occasionally came up in objective and Flag special playlists in H3 and Reach.

I really wanted to post this in response to your post however, because only a few posts before yours I saw a third instance of them not knowing what was new and old: the Forbes article linked in that post quoted Kevin Franklin:

"We also showed Oddball, which we’re really changing. It always used to be a free-for-all or multi-team experience. Now we have Team Oddball. Then again, maybe it won’t come out as a really competitive game, but we’re just going to wait and see. There’s definitely potential."

If you knew that there were/are social skirmish/team obective playlists in H3 and Reach, you probably wouldn't say this. If you've played them, like I have, you probably would have at least seen (my party happened to choose Oddball frequently recently) oddball as a choice and known that such a statement was false.

Both Dominion and extraction seem to essentially be combinations of flag rally, KOTH and land grab (first and third are symmetrical versions of neutral territories- with flag rally they can be recaptured until the round ends). Dominion is certainly developed, and we'll find out whether the fortification of a base that you just won makes the base less contestable/more static and thus the game more predictable than normal flag rally.

Wait, they took off flag must be at home to score? Please let it be an option!

Yes, it was sometimes boring being the flag carrier and waiting about for your flag to be returned, but it brought out a whole new interesting stage in CTF, attack and defence. You needed to send out an attack team to take out the guy with the flag, but still defend your guy. Now, WTH? I used to love those kinds of CTF games that really turned into a strategy game.

DAMN YOU 343i! Day 1 TU please to fix gametypes, sprint, slayer objective games, gametype options and removal of "killcams."

Urgh, i'm hating this game today.

Wait a second. Forget what I said. I WAS WRONG, HAZAH!

You still get points for slayery things, but they don't count in the game :D

My point was that the flag didn't have to be at home to score in most (in other words, non-"classic") Reach and H3 CTF gametypes, contrary to what they said, but yes, flag-at-home is not going to be in the MM flag gametype that they've been talking about. I haven't been up to date on whether they will include a flag-dropping option for customs, but if they don't have that, I'd bet they won't have a flag-at-home option. Maybe what they really meant to say by "it's a change from past halos" is "the fact that we're not including the custom game option is a change from past halos".

I was about to correct you there on the KOTH points thing, good self-catch.

Does anyone else have trouble seeing the red enemy dots on the radar in that high-quality Settler KOTH video? I was wondering why the radar seemed to be so short until I realized that the enemy dot was just really hard to see. The radar seems to be like a colored filter which shows the background of the map almost as much as the radar color. The yellow ally dots were very bright, large and contrasted, but the red ones were like the indicators that enemies were below you in reach (but this time at the same elevation instead). When he used PV at around 3:20, the background was blue and the red dot became a bit brighter and more distinct.

Does anyone else think that the high-pitched BR sound is unfamiliar?

I really hope day one TU by 343i does some huge improvements but I don't have any faith in 343i, Unless David Ellis takes over the company.

So settler is a sad excuse for a map. Like someone let an 8 year old build it.

And in the bulletin they said you can't disable sprint. /facepalm

No one played Reach to begin with WWWilliam, no one is gonna go back to it. TU was the only shining light in a dark, dark game but they removed it because the five people who liked Reach complained.

I'm still confused why there is sprint in the slayer pro videos, Thought that was one place there was meant to be no sprint?

Is there any videos of slayer pro without sprint for proof? Because I really wanna be able to turn off sprint.

bsangel's latest bulletin confirms that it is impossible to turn off sprint. Sprint also "scales with speed."

Don't want those rumors spreading ;) But really lame can't disable sprint

weapon swap time would be a decent trait to modify in a super heavily modifiable custom game settings like what you would expect in Modding PC games because you wanna be able to customize every single little thing, But for halo custom games its like just very basic what you can customize and and weapon swap doesn't really collaborate with any other settings to really make anything worth while out of it. (fine tune MLG gametype/2 or 3 mini games/ Don't see many other reasons for it)

Don't put words in their mouths. They can modify anything they want, that doesn't mean we can go into custom games and modify them ourselves.

It is confirmed that Slayer Pro has 110% weapon swap speed. That is all that is confirmed about that.

There is someone i know who already has Halo 4. Shall i ask him about information about forge? He says that forge is really epic, but i cant join his party atm.

    Edited by merge:

There we go! He checked the water on Ravine, and has very dissapointing news about it. I know i should not be so obsessed with the water, but we cant even get close to it. You cant build in the water, not use it as scenery. And on Erosion.. Pretty much the same, but you can get closer. Will get more, stay tuned :p
