I agree, this thread has become rather boring to come to. Moar pictures and videos and junk.

From perspective comparing to halo 3 that's fair enough, I remember in halo 3 on standoff been like "They have a warthog I'm not leaving my base" , A single warthog doesn't do that me in reach(unless has some backup)

You can 1v1 a ghost on foot easily with any bit of cover and specially if hit with just one grenade and AL makes splattering while ghost horrible so ghost could arguably suffer more.

But in Reach Warthog>Wraith(stay at distance can't fight back) Warthog>Ghost,Mongoose, Warthog>Revenant at long range, Warthog>other vehicles vs armorlock(tail whip can do next to no damage to yourself while hitting a ALer and if no AL it will splatter him) Easily kill 5+people in warthog(not as reliable but with more potential then rockets) So its far from useless, Took while to adjust to vehicle nerfs and play more cautiously with vehicles but still work well if you don't act like rambo in a vehicle.

But your point still stands but I just had to say that.

I'm really curious to see how vehicle combat works out in Halo 4 because anyone can spawn with plasma pistol? and energy drain? and Sprint and AA's and other spawning weapons with unknown strength vs vehicles.
And how the maps make the vehicles play as transport and used short term or can you spawn and viably spend that life in a vehicle.

Yeah.. we are 793 pages into the discussion, no wonder that its becoming boring. Because eventually we already know everything that has been posted on the web, and if we dont, there is an video or someone with info here in like 5-15 minutes.

This has been my go to place to get info though. Particularly when the full game was leaked.

The one place I could trust not to have massive spoilers.

But things like weapon balancing, weather or not more vehicles should be added/brought back/not removed, I really don't care about.

No way that's true. The wraith has a better weapon (that kills a hog in one shot, and it doesn't even have to be a direct hit), more damage-resistant, actually easier to get splatters with (thanks to the thrusters and Reach's generous splatter mechanics), and only requires one player to use it to full effectiveness (the wraith turret is at best a nice bonus). I routinely go for wraith on Hemorrhage and trust me, the score in my battles vs. warthogs is like 100-2 in my favor. When they actually do stay far enough away that I can't hit them, I just sit behind a hill or my base and wait. A wraith can control almost half of that map; the warthog's best strategy is to stay out of your area. Once a hog crosses midfield, I'll usually thrust straight toward them; that gap closes much faster than you'd think, and within a certain distance, the hog is doomed.

Basically, if I get in a wraith I expect to get a minimum 10 kill run, and have had a LOT of 15+ runs (including my only 40, ever). If I get in a warthog I hope to get a killing spree, but it's not uncommon to get a couple kills and then have them immediately offset by the double kill against my own hog. It's not a fearsome vehicle in Reach and certainly no match for the wraith.

Agreed, but that's not really the point of either vehicle. The mongoose has always been just fast and fragile transport; the nice thing about it is that it's so low profile (small and non-dangerous) that people often ignore it as you go whizzing around the map. The ghost is kind of similar but with less transport capability and some actual firepower. I do miss the fearsome ghost of older games, but I think in Reach its role changed a bit; I tend to use it more to get into enemy territory fast and lend support rather than free-roaming and terrorizing infantry. Armor lock is definitely a worry for ghosts more than any other though.

But revenant > warthog at short, which you know since you put it like that. Even at mid-range, one good (or lucky) rev shot and it's all over for the warthog. To me those vehicles are about equal when facing off against each other; where the revenant does benefit heavily in the overall palette is speed, which makes it better for objective running.

Shanon: Here's looking at you, kid.

Forge maps being the premise for a vehicle to function is questionable. I disagree about the cover on Rasu being "effective." As Nutduster stated, the Spire is pretty damn bad as a result, and Boneyard's aerial division equates to the central structure which is as much a barrier as it is cover, and does nothing to help with the main playspace. Abridged doesn't have a lot of cover, sorry, it has 2 small things to hide behind. That's like saying that Hemorrhage has a lot of on-foot cover because it has the 2 bases. The Island is actually an interesting example, but I'm struggling to think of a single game in 2 years where I've even slightly cared about a Falcon on it (is there even one?).

That's what this comes down to. Are you saying that the Falcon has been a force to be reckoned with in your experience of Reach? Look at the facts of how it plays out, and then try and reason backwards to see why that occurs. Sorry, but I've played a fair bit of Reach and the Falcon is largely a non issue.

The warthog is not easier to hit with slow projectiles, more specifically the ones that count. Rockets don't track, and Plasma Launcher shots are more subject to even the tiniest bits of cover the ground presents. Look, think about a Hog running away. Even the relatively small hills of Hemorrhage offer intermittent cover which make using both slow moving and fast projectiles (like the Sniper) much more difficult to use when chasing it. I'd argue that the Hog has a slight upper hand again when it comes to Scorpions etc. simply because of the cover issue again, though it's not that big of a difference.

I'm starting to question whether we're playing the same game tbh. This sounds like arguments where people try to argue that stuff like the Focus Rifle influences the game constantly just because they've found their niche with it.

So this makes it 1) harder to use and 2) more situational in use since you can't get stuck in then withdraw, having to sweep instead which is less open to adaption mid maneuver. It also makes killing one enemy then dealing with another on the other side next to impossible, which is something the Hog excels at.

Who made that comparison? The Hog an Falcon are comparable because they have comparable firepower. If the Banshee only had turrets then sure, but the Bomb is easily the most important aspect of it so comparison to the Ghost is moot, at least when put alongside your comparison of the Hog and Falcon. The Banshee is not the Ghost of the air, it's somewhat closer to the Wraith of the air, the increased power coming from outright speed and maneuverability, as well as an increased FoV that it can actually take advantage of due to these boosts. The Falcon can do little to take advantage of being in the air like the Banshee can.

Some examples of these areas would be nice. And again, this is niche stuff, the Banshee can devastate the main playspace by dint of it's air travel, not be afraid of the main playspace because of this.

Well actually the importance of non tank vehicles on Avalanche is an issue anyway, but the middle path being the easiest to block? Again, did you play this map? Huge amounts of the gamechanging play went on in that single corridor, and saying it's easy to block makes it sound like it's easy to lock down, which was not the case by any means. Also, trivial as it sounds, a Hog could drive through there and did. A Hornet could not.

This is the big thing, and I want to point it out just to cut to the heart of this long discussion. We can make all kinds of arguments about how things should play out - or even how they do play out if you're some kind of falcon piloting specialist - but ultimately, if you play a lot of BTB you simply know that banshees are far more dangerous than falcons for whatever reasons. The reasons themselves are secondary. Falcons are often ignored and sit there without people getting in them for minutes on end; the banshee is the one thing on Spire (other than the snipers) that people actually camp to control it. Banshees racking up fast killing sprees or frenzies is common even for not-great pilots; a falcon with a good pilot and a good gunner is still not striking fear into my heart. And if it does yours, I have to question if you really play that much BTB.

Likewise with the hog vs. wraith thing. The wraith is essentially the rocket launcher of vehicles; the hog is an AR (or to be more charitable, a detached machine gun turret). People don't charge enemy territory to steal a hog, and if they do no one cares. But if the enemy steals your wraith and god forbid ends up with two of them, you are SCREWED. Anyone who plays lots of BTB fears the wraith more so than a hog under almost any circumstances. The glory days of hog rampages on Standoff are long past.

Developer maps have framerate issues in 2 player splitscreen. And as for forge maps, I think we can expect [IMG].

I'll tell you when you've quit misreading my name, Timtart... Which you hopefully just did.

Overkill VR said it on THC, WAYWO, page 110.

    You want more?

zooming while holding objects has been removed, and so has the decreasing of the object movement sensitivity by pressing the left stick.

Just out of curiosity, do any of the Reach dev maps have FR lag when played with 4pl split? I'm pretty sure Sword Base doesn't, but not sure about the others.
