Sovereign
Created by PAINTS 420 & Eww Your Skinny

    Recommended Players: 2
    Required Gametype: Smackdown

We're back again with another map you guys should be largely familiar with. Sovereign, our last community map, excels at everyone's favorite symmetry: asymmetry. With two main atriums and a few connected rooms, Sovereign provides a very classical 1v1 experience.

While Sovereign's layout does allow for players to choose different places to focus their gameplay around, it still pushes those players out into the map to pick up the power weapons. This promotes frequent movement throughout many of the maps more interesting pathways. Employing a myriad of desirable weapons, including a grenade launcher, sniper, shotgun and a custom power-up, players will often be dropping down from the upper, more controllable levels.

But here at Forge Hub a map isn't a map unless it looks just as good as it plays and Sovereign does not disappoint. The combinations of natural terrain and the seamless usage of piece textures creates a space that is easy on the eyes. As well, a great use of colors keeps the map bright and players informed. It's just too bad the facet had to leave us. All in all PAINTS 420 has crafted us an excellent semi-finals playspace. Thank you Paints.

    Wow. Just up, huh?

Gratz @ Paints. I can't recall this being in the nom list, though. Let me go check.

EDIT: NVM, it was there. Don't know why I thought it wasn't.

EDIT 2: Is there supposed to be a poll up?

Superb map. I'm glad it was saved for the last of the community maps, definitely the best out of all the submissions imo. Congrats Paints! Truly well-deserving of the feature.

Someone needs to front-page this *****.

This one I played. A great game ensued here, and I enjoyed the ones we had, paints, for i was not completely pooped upon by your skill. Regardless, I'm glad I could help with that one room where the place was, and I am very pleased to see Sovereign come out as a contest map. Well done on a wonderfully fun map, Paints.

Yup, it was. I notified Chris about it and he fixed it.

Sorry, I haven`t made a symmetrical map since... Well I don`t think I`ve ever made one. They seem unrealistic to me in a sense. How often do you see a perfectly mirrored structure, where all the rooms and hallways are also perfectly mirrored. It just doesn`t happen in real life. It does help alot with coodination if the map is symmetrical though. Just not my thing right now.

You can actually find symmetry in real life fairly easily if you're looking for it. Plenty of buildings, city plans, homes, plazas, ancient architecture (Parthenon) etc. are symmetric. But I do agree, asymmetric maps are a lot more fun to make :)

    Excuse the thread de-railage :p
