truth. i think this goes for all the maps. for example, Erosion's sandy hilly outdoor area looked kinda small to me, but then i noticed the spartan sized tunnels in some of the hills and those are pretty small, judging by those, its a lot bigger than it seems. same goes for that area on ravine with the part of the grass that dipped down and it had 2 forerunner structures and a little spartan-sized tunnel on the side.

also, in the achievement horse video we saw a while back on Ravine, their horse map was built well up into the sky and out over the water, and also, when falling, they fell all the way down to the water. i think these things are good evidence that they are larger than they seem at first.

i am ****in super psyched now!

although i am also kinda disappointed to not see a covie themed forge world, it does kinda make sense why they would not do such a thing, considering the rounded nature of covenant architecture... a discussion that has already been brought up in here many times.

oh lawdy lawdy, dat Erosion got my nuts all hot.
    ****in gorgeous map. forgeous even!

it seems the objects palettes are generally the same beige tone in every map, but the difference comes from the lighting, as i and some others had suspected in an earlier post. so basically, we have brown (erosion) white (impact) and graywhite (ravine)

im happy with it to say the least.
theres always some unfulfilled expectations with these sorts of things, but overall these forge worlds are ****in astounding! for all the limitations that people speculate about before having the game in their hands, whether they end up being true or not, we will come up with some awesome **** because we are all geniuses. the end of the post.

Lori Zawada - (2:25) Halo 4 Forge Maps Overview - "Other maps start with a little bit of a clean slate, which some people can find a little bit intimidating."

Sure sounds like a "dumb it down" mentality to me... I know she is only talking about Erosion here, but all 3 maps have indelible prefab structures on them. I am getting a little concerned.

Was hoping for a sandbox skybox kind of thing, but after watching the videos again, I really like the direction they've gone in. I think this will hold true: [IMG]

Agreed, after watching it all again I am seeing more and more I like. The maps are definitely bigger than I had thought and there are a lot of far more interesting pieces of natural geometry to work with. Even if the pallets are mostly the same, I like the new areas a lot and I can't wait to get started.

By the way, any info on the falcon or another UNSC air vehicle? It would be a shame to see it go, especially with epic lake-top battles on Erosion.

I'm looking foward to some specific parts in Ravine and Impact. Ravine seens to have a lot of space in their edge overlooking the islands in a Paradise Style above that Ocean... and Impact have a deep space area in the two sides of the giant floating asteroids. If we use this spaces and the pieces in the right way, we could end up with a lot of Urban Themed maps at NIGHT for example. At the same time, if Titmar is right, we can re-build and create magnificent map areas really down in the ocean in Ravine as far as it was in Forge World.

Well, I suppose we did get our time of day option in a manner of speaking. Still, the skybox/ cave will give away where we built pretty well. I think it will still be cool though.

That image is awesome!, I personally describe that phenomenon as "Don't think outside the box, Think creatively inside the box" and how I go about pretty much everything I do.

But I don't agree that limiting the size of map will be beneficial. Halo map editors are already limiting enough(compared to map creators with adjusting sizes texture packs etc etc) so limiting map size is restricting it to much imo.

as for the skybox I don't think its needed only reason we had sandbox one was because we couldn't make objects float in Halo 3(easily) plus we have kill zones to make makeshift skybox's anywhere.

I'm really glad that they have two good looking flat structure rooms: the grifball court for 2v2 and possibly tight 4v4 (it's hard to judge the scale), and the well-lit forerunner room on Ravine, which seems to have ample room for sandbox-style BTB maps. I predict that the majority of maps will start here. It looks like a perfected version of the coliseum.

Maybe the natural ravine area and the open Impact area were flatter than they appeared to me, but if not I can understand that flatter natural areas would look unnatural.

I'm unsure why they included that depressed natural road with a white structured border for the ledges on top. Are those deletable forge pieces? It looks like there would be problems trying to drive over them without putting inclines down. There is a break in those bordered ledges for a bridge, though. It looks like that could have been built close enough for gameplay purposes with forge pieces. Even though the path wouldn't have been depressed, and inclined structures would have to create an elevation difference, pathwise it would have been isolated in the same way. It appears to be in the very center of the natural Ravine side, which is the last place where forgers would want to be restricted. Pieces will have to be used to alter it in every map, as opposed to being used to create it in a few maps.

I see that they wanted to fill out the natural geometry variety with Erosion. It serves as an inclined map, which would be hard to recreate with forge pieces. As they pointed out, because tunnels and crevices can be filled, and gaps in natural bridges can be closed, it looks very flexible.

i would assume its about the same size as the forge world coliseum, so it should easily support 4v4.

@ all the covie requests, I don't know how practical/flexible that would be, as covenant floors, walls, ramps etc all have their specific textures, in addition to the fact that it would look awful and pointless merged into the terrain while restricting tight corners because of how curvy their achitecture is. I think it's best to stick to square palettes, since they are much more malleable.

@mazdak Actually, now that you mentioned it, agreed. What would a set of textures for terrain that meshed with the covenant colors look like?...

Great. Just one thing. WHERE THE HELL ARE ALL THE TREES? we'd better be able to place them... that'd be awesome. I just hope there aren't too many polygons so as to screw up lag.

343i knew if we had placable trees we would put them all in a central Atrium and then we would all get auto-features here at FH.

Seems like these 3 Forge maps all share the same motto, which is "you'll have to forge a bunch before you forge a bunch."

    Ugh.
