I feel like the point I made earlier about 343 clearly showing what kind of audience they want to attract by highlighting Grifball 2.0 to be even more meaningful after this huge focus on Infection 2.0. I'm beginning to think this game is going to end up putting 3/4ths of the entire population into Infinity Slayer, Flood and Grifball. I'm gonna cancel that LE preorder now. I get the feeling I'm not gonna stick with it, but I can always change my mind and get DLC if I do.
Oh yeah...that's why I don't play Reach much anymore. There are more people in Social Slayer Halo 3 than like MLG and Super Slayer combined most of the time. Kinda sad, IMO.
I wish they didn't base things off Reach though..Reach is such a small fraction of the Halo community (basing this off of overall sales).
Competitive players are also frankly a very small fraction of the Halo Community. While there are more competitive players represented online in forums and such, the vast majority of players are casual.
exactly this. im not saying "**** competitive players" but really, halo has always been a casual game moreso than competitive. the competitive, and ultra-competitive people make up a relatively small percentage of the population.
I understand that. So is the forge population, and it wouldn't nice to completely skewer them to the point where they can't even make their gametypes in customs either. They could try to expand on it and keep the other populations too. Look at Grifball, which grew out of a small Halo 3 population. It just needs a bit of love. Halo inherited the competitives in CE, like it or not. It seems like 343 is trying to shake what's left of them off in favor of making yet another casual FPS.
we were limited at first with our options in customs, then they gave us Haloball and all the crazy stuff that came out of that... i see your point and i have my hesitations about some of the features of H4 too, but i cant help but think that everyone jumps to a lot of conclusions when this topic comes up. i think it's obvious that there will be playlists for all of us. it has always been that way, so everyone has had an option. sure, the majority are still playing in casual playlists. all that does is make your competition better really. if i was a competitive player, i would be happy that the competitive population is a niche because that makes for better games against more skilled players, more often. i would hate it if my favorite playlist was invaded by trolling noob players, instead of them staying in the playlists where they belong.
In the long term, more people feeling like they can give the competitive scene a try will improve competition because it increases the pool of talent. Too small and introverted a competitive community will become stagnant, which isn't good for competition or the continued (and currently highly questionable) viability of Halo as an eSport.
Oh yeah I forgot about Solace. It might be too big though, especially if they take out sprint. I don't really like the shotgun look either. Reach's shotgun looked perfect and I wish they wouldn't have changed it so radically. But like you said, it's trivial.
That would be nice if it didn't mean massive search times, very unbalanced matches most of the time, and half of the population being full parties. Not to mention since its a low population, playlist updates are always on the backburner. And you can never get people to play.
Because in the end armor customization matters so much. I like the look of Meltdown, it's a fairly simple design but I think it will play well. Damn, We've got Longbow, Exile, Ragnarok, and Meltdown able to run full BTB, and Complex looks like to could run 6 v 6. I'll actually be able to play BTB matchmaking. Hoping last map is another asym.
Someone should make Classic Valhalla when the game comes out. Original weapon spawns, no mantis... Also in the Ragnorak vid, he said Mantises... That must be the plural. lol
Lol, I caught that, too. The damn video is ultra-lag-supreme for me. So, I can't really make a judgement on the map yet. :/ EDIT: Mother of God, this map looks wonderful.
People will always make classic versions. We'll be seeing 20 of them by the first day. Meanwhile I'll be using/ fighting Mantis's on Ragnarok. Halo 3 MM is still running by the way. You can play it there and you have been able to for the last 5 years.
Even if it plays well with the Mantis, they should have a least put original weapon spawns(except for the guns that aren't in Halo)
