It's going to be hard to explain this. Good gametypes require good maps to thrive, and infection in particular, the base weapons you have shift the entire game. So in the right context SMGs are perfect. They'd fail in base MM as we know it, but with the right settings they're awesome.

The particular map I was working on was meant to be played with very large groups. It involved a time-based objective, and was a very narrow area. Enough to group up but not enough to space out. But I wanted to pace them so it wasn't a dead sprint to the objective. Lowering weapon damage and giving the humans an SMG made it so they were overwhelmed (within reason).

In essence, they were overwhelmed solo, slightly less overwhelmed with teammates in their immediate area, and just powerful enough to make it to the objective before time ran out when they were able to pick up a second weapon to dual wield. While this is happening, the gradual increase of infected timed out nicely with the availability of ammo.

That was all a contextual point, but outside of this, I think SMGs with limited ammo, and ammo scattered around a nonlinear map would be perfect. It's really just dependent on the gameplay you want to encourage. Really I could go into much more detail about this, but I won't.

I don't know, Turf was a fairly large map in terms of infantry combat. Sure there was a Warthog, but most of the fighting was on-foot.

I'd love to see Turf return actually, but I think the Jetpack and Thruster Packs wouldn't serve it well. Still, imagine Turf with Promethean Vision :D

oaxica is an entire state in mexico. how do you know it specifically has to do with the pyramids that happen to be in the state of oaxica? The pyramid thing is way more of a stretch than the restaurant. besides, the clue was like "la carte de oaxica." carte means paper or map or menu, so the oaxica restaurant menu is definitely more plausible than some pyramids that vaguely look like sandbox or sandtrap.

Chill out kid. No, I don't know what the remake is, nor will I pretend I do. And if the remake was Turf, unfortunately it isn't BTB so Turf isn't the answer, then I'd be ecstatic. Whether I guess the remake right or not, it's not like I win a free copy of H4, so it's not a big deal as to who is right. We're just speculating for fun. Honestly I prefer all original maps, if I want to play an older map, I'll pop in my older disc, it's pretty simple and why would I pay for something that I already own.
Sandbox wouldn't be a bad remake. I loved the main floor, blood gulch was a terrible replacement for building space and asylum, despite it being flat, was way too small. So I'm down for a sandbox remake.

    All the clues so far:
    -it's a BTB map
    -It's pretty well liked
-There are no hazards on the map
    -It's not Blood Gulch
    - It has something to do with the restaurant: La Carte de Oaxica.

I think it was supposed to be Carte as in Menu..hence the whole fish taco's, Longshore thing that was going around.

    Guess not: https://twitter.com/franklez/status/245346356439441408

    It was indeed Carta

Ohhh. I didn't actually check, I just kept seeing it and it bugged me because it was incorrect spelling.

What's interesting about that restaurant is that they're fixated around seafood, when Oaxacan food is traditionally cheesy (because of the awesome mozzarella-like cheese they have there) or saucy like most mexican food. Mole and Oaxacan cheese are the main staples of food in that region, not seafood like other coastal parts of Mexico.

Seafood is served, just not what comes to mind when you say "let's go get Oaxacan."

So, I'd definitely say it's Longshore like everyone is saying.

Also, Carta is typically used to denote "letter" not "map" like everyone's been saying. I mean, Frankie may be being coy there, but because of the restaurant in the area I'd say he was specifically using it to reference that, and by extension, seafood, not the Mexican state itself.

Lolz on lolz on lolz. this guy gets it.

1st. if Frankie said it has nothing to do with Mexico, then i admit defeat. but I dont recall seeing that anywhere. (link please?)

2nd. If Frankie did not say that, then i still beleive Sandbox is the correct guess. Because when you google search Oaxaxa some of the top images look like Sandbox.

3rd. If it is Longshore, im very curious to see how they take a very Human level and turn it into a forerunner map. I doubt the forerunner planet has harbors and packing plants, docks, and like a said, very human structures. So that just leads me to beleive that graphically the map wouldnt translate well into Halo 4. UNLESS, they made it on the Forward Unto Dawn, and instead of water it was space... that might be plausable. also longshore has moving elements.. (why hasn't that ruled it out like waterworks and containment?)

4th. If Sandbox, i think that they could pull it off easily with forerunner style ruins or maybe not even ruins anymore, maybe just mounds. Its a very Basic (non-human specific) map and i think it would translate well into Halo 4

5th. (Just for funzies like Shanon) La Carta De Oaxaca.. Carta = map.. maps are made by Cartographers.. The remake is a HUGE BTB SILENT CARTOGRAPHER MAP!

    On Common Usage:
Carta = letter. Like 90% of the time.
Carta = menu. 9% of the time (though I suppose the context does make a significant difference, if you're in a restaurant and someone is speaking Spanish, the numbers would reverse)
Carta = map. I've never heard it used this way in all my years of speaking Spanish, not even Spain Spanish, or South American Spanish. I've heard the "letter" usage in media and conversation with people from all three areas though.

Of course the numbers are arbitrary to illustrate the point based on personal experience, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to hear someone actually use the word in the context of "map" in normal conversation. "Necesito una carta" does not mean "I need a map."

"Carta - letter; document; charter; epistle; map; card; playing card; menu"
thats what i was going off of.. my apologies for not being bilingual
my 5th point was meant to be a joke at stretching the clue way further than needed.

As the multiplayer maps are all through the Infinity's virtual world they could recreate any play space they want, being forerunner has nothing to do with it.

Guys. It's going to be okay. We'll know what the map is in a few days no matter who is the most fluent in Spanish.

We also know it's an outdoor map. So add that to the list.

And 343i already stated that the influence on multiplayer maps doesn't contain a correlation like the Reach maps did. They are 100% concepts designed by the multiplayer team. Obviously they still want it to hold that Halo feel, but they aren't bound to forerunner architecture.

Halo 4 is only six weeks away. If they do marketing like Bungie, which so far they really haven't, then they still have seven more multiplayer maps to show off, a Forerunner gun viddoc, and a forward unto dawn mini series. So don't worry, we'll probably receive details very shortly.
