Ascalon By Paranoia UK Ascalon is my latest and probably last forge map on Halo Reach. Ive been away from the game, and xbox in general, for a while now. I decided that it would be nice to make one last map for Reach and then put it to bed forever. I plan on getting Halo 4 and making more maps but until then I wont be forging any more. Ascalon was made pretty much in a day. I wanted to create one last map but I dont have much free time at the moment so I speed forged the whole thing. As a result of this I have only set the map up for Team Slayer and Free For All. This is ok though as the map was always going to be for mainly Slayer. The style of the map would not suit objective based games. As for the building of the map I decided to go for my usual pallette plus the brace tunnel and one building peice. I keep my pallettes to a minimum in order to uphold a clean aesthetic. The map is built on a third of Paradiso and is designed for DMR starts.
I do remember seeing a map of yours... I believe it was Kalmaya. Those 1x2 banks are very unique. May I make a suggestion? Label your pictures. I can't figure out which base is where for the life of me based on the pictures...
Hey Paranoia, you're finally back and posted a map. Its been a while and this def looks great. I've always been a fan of the solid textures from banks. I'm wondering if they can be used as platforms to walk on like hang em' high or penance. Nice overview of the map, movement looks like it has some nice potential. I'll DL and take a closer look around. Not sure why there's a floating white light in your pic...
Do you have any framerate problems? It looks like you've used a lot of small pieces just for the sake of aesthetic, particularly the 2x1 banks and 1x1 tall and thins. Most 4v4 maps don't that kind of luxury, and it looks too big for a 1v1.
It's definitely good to see you forging still, Para The banks, as everyone else says, look great. The only problem I have with the map is that is bares too much of a resemblance to your other maps. I think it mostly has to do with the piece usage. You did use the same bank columns in your other map, Kalmaya. I think, if you are to forge in halo 4, you should try to use different pieces for your maps. I'm not bashing the map in any way, and I have a great admiration for the unique qualities you put in your maps, but I feel like you should try to use a wider variety of pieces when you forge. I'll give this a DL, because it still looks really interesting, though.
To be honest i dont think i have ever seen a competetive map where you put this one... Good job As for your halo 4 maps i cant wait to see what you come up with... your obviously a worthy forger and have made many a great map.
Thanks man, im looking forward to seeing what Halo 4's forge engine allows us to do. Thanks man, as far as baring too much of a resemblance to my previous maps, that is entirely intenional. I have a specific pallette I like to work from. The objects I use are in the pallette because they give a nice clean look and are also good for lowering framerate isssues. I did try to include some new peices into the pallete like the brace tunnels and tall tower whilst trying to keep the map clean and framerate low. In my experience the size of the object has no effect on framerate issues. The main reason for framerate is using objects that have a lot of detail, colour and lighting effects. This is why I use objects such as the banks and braces, they not only combine well to create a nice look but they also use less power for the enging to process. The map is mainly for use with FFA and Team Slayer, not neccesarily 1v1. Thanks man, yeah its been a while since ive made a map. Must be like 6 months now or something. I find the banks are great for use of walkways too, they are expensive but give a nice look. The floating light is there purely to light up an otherwise dark area. Thanks for commment. I think the pictures are fairly easy to work out when you compare them with the birds eye view of the map.
Well, your overhead is directly overhead, so I can't place some of those doorways and things. It wouldn't take very long to label them anyway..
