Intro: Hello everybody, my name is Robius5991 and this is the first map that I will be posting on ForgeHub. As I'm sure you will all see, it is not a particularly amazing map but please keep in mind that I made this last year and it was my initial foray into Forge World. In due time I will be adding my more recent, and in my opinion, better maps to this forum. So, let's get started with the description! The Map (mafia): I primarily created this map to mimic a type of small city district possibly found in a New York-type, prohibition-era, United-States. As you look around the area, you will spot a multitude of small sectors to the map. The district itself is organised according to three main roads that intertwine in certain sections. Between these roads we find houses, a bank, a barber shop, a warehouse and even a small skyscraper. The roads and certain buildings are damaged, following the gang wars that took place between the two warring mafia families. The Gametype (Mafia Wars): The gametype suggested for this map is "Mafia Wars" which is a variant of the Swat gametype. Initially created as a team game, it also works very well for free-for-all (although I suggest lowering the score). All the players spawn without shields and are all in black armour (as in mafia-style suits). Unlike regular Swat however, this gametype allows the players to decide whether they prefer a one-shot kill weapon (DMR or pistol) or rather an assault rifle, which will be accompanied with multiple grenades. The city block is also littered with a wide range of weapons (Shotguns, DMRs, Magnums, Grenade launchers, Rockets and Snipers). Although this may seem like a lot of weaponry, the Swat type gametype keeps the playing field rather fair no matter what the circumstances. Screenshots: This is an overview of the entire map, showing the dividing roads. This shows a view for the central road. This is the "elevator" which allows you to reach the top of the Skyscraper. Here is the view from the Skyscraper, where a Sniper is located. This is the observation tower, another Sniper spawn. This is a small grouping of houses. This is the main entrance to the Barber shop. (There is a back entrance) The Barber shop interior. (You may find a small weapon stash) This is the Barber shop patio, slightly destroyed. (Also a grenade launcher spawn.) This is the Bank's main entrance. (Also has a back entrance) The Bank's main atrium with stairs up to the second floor. The second floor of the Bank, with a grenade launcher on the floor. (One of the walls facing the Barber shop patio is destroyed) The building adjacent to the bank with an emergency ramp connecting them. (It houses a rocket launcher.) A Warthog with addition armaments is found behind both the Bank and Barber shop. And finally, the Warehouse, which also holds extra weapons. (Beyond it are a few more houses.) As you've seen there are plenty of small weapon stashes, barricades and turrets covering the map. My main idea was to change the face of the average Swat game by permitting players to choose their preferred style of combat, while still following the no-shields concept of the game. Some may think the presence of vehicles and multiple power-weapons may make combat un-even but to be honest, following a large array of test games with multiple other players, we found that no-matter the combination of weapons and hiding spots, camping is nearly impossible on this map. Weapons list: Rocket launchers: 2 (only two rockets each) Sniper rifles: 2 (limited ammo) Grenade launchers: 2 Warthogs: 2 Turrets: Many (sorry no real number comes to mind) DMRs, Magnums, Shotguns: Many (sorry no real number comes to mind) Conclusion: So, that's pretty much all I have to say and show about my map. Please leave your feedback, be it positive or simply some constructive criticism, I will take note of it and, if I haven't already realised it since I made this map, will add it to my standards for future maps. Since it was your first map and you were still geting used to forge in halo reach, not bad. I would like to see some of your more recent maps. Just to see how much you improved.
Thanks MacoroniMayorTOFU. I know its not really "up to standards' with other existing maps but I hope that when you see the maps that follow, my personnal improvements will become more evident. I will try to post my next map tomorrow. Thanks again!
Looks good, but wont the sniper at the top make it unbalanced? and wont the warthog make it unbalanced too? You said the SWAT gametype would balance it out, but its really hard to shoot someone whos moving and shooting at you with a chaingun.
You would really be surprised at how well this gametype plays. I know the map isn't great quality, as it was my first, but the gametype is smooth and so much fun. When you're team has control of the Warthog or Sniper, they are not invincible. The variety of weapons (DMR, Grenade launcher and shotgun in particular) make for a balanced gametype, along with the other power weapons scattered through the map. I'm not sure if I mentionned this in the description, but you have quite a few classes to choose from including one that starts with a DMR and one with a shotgun. The simple fact that a single bullet to the head kills, really evens everything out. Although, if you're still not convinced, simply take the team settings and play free for all with the same gametype. My friends and I always have a blast doing that. Anyways, thanks for your comment and please check out my more recent maps!
