Despite all the new crap, I don't think this will be worse than vanilla Reach.

Though I'm nervous of some of the specializations like stalker or pathfinder-operator, as well as the quote "In Halo 4 Multiplayer, weapon drops won't be predictable."

I don't even know what to make of that... It really depends on how well it tracks. I mean, we've already got hit indicators when being shot, what more could it really do?

So theories on the function of Stalker anyone? It sounded to me like it would just throw a pop-up on your screen with the name of the last dude that killed you. My wife took it to mean a waypoint over said player. It just sounds like a cheesy ability for raging or something. Anybody make any sense of it?

If it were simply a golden colored dot on the radar for a limited amount of time, or assumingly til' you get him, then i think it would be fine. Thats a pretty petty ability to use your specialisation on. The only use i can see is if your shot from someone with a sniper...damn those jet peck snipers!

It says on your HUD, so I assume it's just going to be like one of the weapon drop waypoints that follows the respective opponent. That doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy at all.

Not having tracer rounds will likely make spotting distant or awkwardly placed snipers a lot more difficult. Not saying that this is a good answer by any means (even if the waypoint simply showed where you were shot from rather than following the player, that'd be better), but it's an issue I hadn't really thought about until now.

I'm going to despise Stalker. I spend most of my time in one area sniping and I stay alive solely because people don't know where they're getting shot from. On top of that, the people that I find most annoying in a game are the ones that completely ignore everything and make it their job to kill just me, even if that takes them 15 minutes and they die several times in the process.

Also, who designed that armor? I spent the last 2 years shitting on GUNGNIR for being a mailbox and I can't believe they could possibly top that. Most of it looks pretty damn stupid....

    Overall:

QFT. What I've been thinking with each new update is that it's going to completely decimate the guerrilla playstyle I have going for me.

Hey man, I've played that way in every game as far back as I can remember. THE THRILL OF THE HUNT.

So does anybody know of the next time 343i will be hosting an online Q&A?

I think we all want to know some of the details of all the new Halo 4 news.

As for specializations, I think they are just gonna drag the game down. With the "perks" it wasn't as important to know which "perks" they had, but with specializations it will be very important to know what your enemies are using.
    It's a real downer, and I was excited about Halo 4. :(

Ah, so you're one of those cowardly jackasses that refuses to engage in a real man's fight. And I am one of those super-aggro jackasses that hunts you down no matter the personal cost to my body or soul. Pleased to meet you. :D

Me too. I want a simple, arena shooter. It was amazing to see how much you could do with the small but diverse assortment of tools in a game like CE. After Halo 3 (well, include Halo 3 in that, with equipment, but at least that wasn't that bad) gimmicks and all this fluff on top just started bugging me.

I'm debating renting or ignoring Halo 4 again.

    Just read the article.

Wetworks seems to be the one for me. Curious to see how much the foot noise will be reduced, it's something I've always wanted for Halo.

go play nexuiz or something then.

I understand why you dislike these changes, i agree the game probably would be better without them, but these specializations really dont very game-changing. you can walk a bit faster with a turret, oh dear.
and from what i've seen, the game still looks plenty fun, which is the main thing i really care about. if you hate the changes that much, youre free to not buy it. but there's no use in complaining every day about how you want a re-skinned CE, because youre not going get it, sorry.

At least with the direction its moving, there's a -blam!- ton more customization available. We could strip the game down and possibly have something more enjoyable and competitive than CE...

My biggest concerns at this point are that we have good maps at launch, at least two solid classic playlists, and a solid forge editor.

It's just that guys like me that prefer the more simplistic arena shooters will be corralled into a few select playlists, albeit that's better than our current options in Reach... And we'll have customs. :p

    Edited by merge:

It's not about wanting a re-skinned CE. It's about enjoying a more simplistic game. There's plenty of room for innovation and change in the basic arena shooter genre without completely changing the game into something outside the genre.

I have a hard time subsisting on customs and two playlists...although I genuinely liked MLG v7 Reach, that alone isn't enough to keep me satisfied.

And I totally agree with that innovation line. It's got to be possible, but no one really wants to try it :(

Say, mind inviting me to some of those customs? I really don't have that many friends that play customs like that, ever. I think that's another problem I have; I don't have connections to people who would want to play the same game I do.

Bish please. I've got enough manliness for everyone here, duh. ;)

I'd say that seeing power weapons before they spawn, seeing the position of someone that killed you at all times, and resisting EMPs are pretty big game changers.

Console Arena shooter. Nexuiz is a PC shooter that's been put on console. I enjoy it, don't get me wrong, but its home is on the PC, just like other Quake or Unreal style game.

Way to pick out a specifically niche one. What about the one which waypoints other players? That's gonna affect the game.

This argument always makes no sense to me. If they don't change the game even to a notable degree then they're pointless, and the devs did a bad job. If they didn't want to change the game then they wouldn't have put in all these things which, ya know, are there to change the game.

In terms of actually discussing the game, that's an utterly meaningless statement, you're basically trying to reduce the discussion to "I like it" or "I don't like it," except the latter people aren't allowed to even say this for some reason. If you hate people who discuss what they like or dislike about a game, you're free to avoid places and threads which exist solely to do just that. There's no use in complaining about how you want Halo fans to fall silent, because it's not going to happen, sorry.

And here we have a heroic level post by Pegi, contrary to his usual fanning the flames posts found in other discussions. :p
