Tbh the fact that they have both just makes it worse.

I can kinda see the value of the system in that it allows for more variation in point awards, ie. the alternative to the 15 point kill in the 1 point system would be 1.5 points for an assassination, which looks dumb. But it just seems odd having like 3 scoring systems now (kills, seconds and "points"/the 10 points system) depending on the gametype.

Some new-ish info about how they've changed the game after the E3 build.

The Carbine and Storm Rifle were kind of over-powered in the E3 build.

i thought the DMR looked just as powerful, only almost nobody was using it. if anything i thought the BRwas just a little underpowered.

So I played this yesterday at Comic-Con once. It was an hour wait, and I was only able to see the Con for a few hours, so once was all I was willing to do. I'm gonna be honest and say that I don't have a whole lot of insight to offer, though. It was a lot of fun, and definitely felt a little closer to H3 than it did to Reach. I played one game of Infinity Slayer on Longbow...and got my ass HANDED to me. It was a beatdown. I was extremely humbled, and felt pretty ashamed at how terrible I was (having not played any Halo in close to a year, if not longer). Longbow is a good sized map, though. Its not quite BTB size... probably a little smaller than Zanzibar. But I have a feeling that the whole new-map sensation made it feel bigger than it might have actually been. I didn't get a whole lot of kills, but I did try to use as many different loadout weapons as I could. By loadout weapons, I mean the rifles (DMR, BR, AR, Carbine, Storm). If I was a good player, MAN the Carbine would be nasty. But I am not.. I'm horribly bad. DMR is pretty nasty too, but it's certainly not incredibly handy up close. I probably spent the majority of my time in the game driving though. I got my hands behind the wheel of the Warthog and Mongoose, as well as a short time in the Ghost, too. The Hog and Goose felt very much like H3 to me, which was really exciting. Gunning in the Hog felt like Reach, though. But the Ghost seemed different. It seemed kinda nerfed. It wasn't as fast, and its ROF was slowed down.

One thing that threw me off about the PV was how actually to use it, like, on the controller. If you just tap it, it will use your entire bar. But it didn't seem like holding it in then letting it go was a way to control its distance/length... I think it was more of a tap to turn on, then tap again to turn back off. Which I thought was odd. Didn't feel very natural. Hardlight Shield is a hold down the button kinda ability, and it seemed like PV should have been the same way. In all honesty, though, I forgot a bunch of times that I had an ability. I made a mental note before the game started that I was going to see what the Thruster Pack was all about, but then the game started and I never got around to it. My badz.

I will say, though, that even though I got my ass kicked, it was still a ton of fun. The pace is noticeably quicker.

It's good they are nerfing the Carbine some, because that thing was LETHAL.

Definitely agree on the Carbine, not sure if I agree about the storm rifle though. Sure, up close it's deadly, but any further than maybe 5m and it's practically useless. I believe it was Bravo that actually said it shot "paper bullets"

the ordinance drops throw off so much.

shuman and i had a discussion about overshield in particular being mixed into the personal ordinance.

    OS in previous games:
chasing down an enemy with low shields, he's moving toward OS on the map, you know he may pop back out with the OS so maybe you back off

    OS in Infinity Slayer:
chasing a guy down with low shields, you make the choice to follow and finish him off because its the intelligent choice then BAM OH **** HE'S GOT A PERSONAL ORDINANCE OVERSHIELD.

a smart player cant predict that, its just stupid random unfortunate ****. that gametype sounds bad every way i imagine it...

I think that you can see/hear when they call in an ordinance, giving you time to back off. I do agree though that I'm not terribly excited for IS. I'll be sticking to a more standard Halo affair in that regard.

Well, according to the first 2 minutes of that coverage, you use abilities from the extinct Mass Effect aliens. I saw it during infinite slayer on the bridge.

Couldn't Machinima brush up their knowledge before they start doing coverage?

Yeah they really didn't seem to up on stuff that, at least amongst the Halo fan community, is well known by now.

The Halo Council - Halo 4 Panel Notes

These are some notes this guy got from Comic-Con. I'll post the list here, he'll also be updating it tomorrow.

Halo trailer premiering in theaters July 29th.
Titled "Creating Halo 4" , and it's new.
    RPG Approach to Mp experience
    Customize to fit styles
get max level cap- reenlist into specializations (sniper, gunner etc)
    10 lvl progressions
unlock exclusive armor mods, emblems, early access via special edition
    Classic modes altered
    Regicide has king
    Mode specific assassinations.
CTF: Knock player down, stab flag through head
    Oddball: Uppercut with ball
    Toss the Oddball to teammates
Use a pistol while carrying a flag.
Player disintegrates midair afterwards with these.
Spartan Ops starts November 6th. 50 Missions.
Visual Design working on limited edition inspired by USNC Infinity and the Forerunner tech associated with it is, translucent.
Working with matching limited edition wireless headset with USNC controller and matching triton headset
Definite possibility for remade maps "at least once", none on launch.

    New stuff:
    Use pistol while carrying flag
    Mode specific assassinations
Classic modes altered (I'm assuming for weapon drops)
10 level progressions (first time we've had a number for levels)
Get max level cap - reenlist into specialisations (Prestige)
Unlock exclusive stuff (including gameplay-changing armor mods) for getting Special Edition (pay more money, win the game!)

Also, I may just be misunderstanding some things. So yeah, this game is Halo 3 with a lot of COD and Reach stuff slapped onto it from the looks of it.

Woah woah woah, what's this about? If these "specialisations" are another thing that affect gameplay then I'm seriously dubious. Even prestige only gives you an extra loadout...

My guess is that you can earn a certain amount of experience point to 'improve' your armour mods. (e.g. Shield recharge time goes from 3 secs to 2.5, ammo mods gives you another magazine, etc.) Essentially Pro perks.

But, it could just be something else.

EDIT: There'll probably be some clarification tomorrow

EDIT 2: looked over it, and I had an idea. It says 'reenlist at max level cap' and then into those specialisations, so another guess is that once you reach the max level, you can enter this mode to put yourself into sort of 'specialised' position, where you play according to the role you chose (e.g. if you chose sniper you'd get promethean vision, DMR, armor mod which gives you radar in-scope, etc.)

"Specializations: Receive early access to six Specializations, available at launch on Xbox LIVE, and use them, one at a time, to achieve higher ranks in your Spartan career. In addition to gaining access to new ranks, Specializations unlock new customization options."

Sound familiar? They mentioned specialisations way back when the limited edition was revealed. It sounds like once you get to a certain level you can choose which "class" (or specialisation) you are, and when you rank up with that class it determines which armour pieces/ vanity options you unlock, at which point you probably have the choice to go back and do the others.

They did say they're bringing an "RPG Approach to Mp experience". This sound like skill trees mixed with prestige mode, except instead of new skills you unlock new armour.

Oh, and of course I could be wildly wrong.

All I've got to say is Oddball. Stoked for Oddball. The ability to throw/pass the ball brings so much more to that gametype... And can you say rugby minigames?

If it's just for vanity pieces that would be a good use of it.

You might be right with that. Like say you reach this highest rank for the first set and you've already unlocked all the weapons and armor you can. With selecting your specialization, I think it would be more like you choose one of your pre-existing weapon loadouts and you can bring that with you to the next set of ranks while everything else is reset and you have to re-earn those few weapons again, but you are also rewarded with say an armor piece or something.

Then again, I could be very wrong about that too.

Also, who else notices that Haven looks like it's in the day time in video 1 and sunset or something in video 2?
